Chapter 27: The Power of Fairy Wings
"Fire Rain!"
Poison powder, sleep powder—none of these could harm Charmeleon.
The Purification trait rendered all such effects useless.
Not only that, the powders could now become Charmeleon's weapon.
A massive fireball shot into the air, exploding into dozens of fiery sparks.
The sparks collided with the powder-filled air, triggering a chemical reaction that caused the entire battlefield to erupt in a cascade of crackling flames and explosions!
The crowd gasped at the spectacle, unsure whether the move was reckless or genius. Smoke and ash engulfed the field, obscuring the Pokémon.
In the haze, a fiery figure emerged—Charmeleon, soaring through the air with translucent wings that shimmered faintly in the light. The display left the audience stunned.
The announcer stammered, "Charmeleon… is flying? Those wings… are they Fairy Wings?"
Excitement erupted among the spectators. "Unbelievable! Charmeleon isn't just grounded—it's airborne!"
When the smoke cleared, Machop stood battered and scorched, struggling to stay upright. With one final glance at Haruto, it collapsed, its eyes replaced by swirls.
"Charmeleon, Roar, and Ralts, Confusion—finish it off!" Hikaru commanded.
Seizing the opportunity, Charmeleon let out an earth-shaking roar, amplified by its newfound wings. Meanwhile, Ralts focused its psychic energy on Butterfree. The combination proved too much; Butterfree crashed to the ground, defeated.
"Butterfree is unable to battle! The winner of this match and the champion of this year's Shuimu High School League is Hikaru!" The announcer's voice trembled with excitement as the audience erupted in cheers.
This unexpected outcome left the crowd exhilarated. The intense strategy, the powder-laden battlefield, and the jaw-dropping fireworks finale—this battle had everything. Charmeleon, through its strength and determination, had proven itself to be the true star of the show.
"You… you're incredible," Haruto said sincerely, recalling Butterfree and Machop into their Poké Balls. "One day, I'll return to challenge you again."
The declaration brought to mind Hikaru's previous encounter with Wang Miao. Wang had said the same thing, and now, the gap between them had widened significantly.
"Anytime," Hikaru replied with a calm smile.
Charmeleon leveled up twice, reaching Level 18. Ralts also gained experience, advancing to Level 15 and learning several new moves.
Returning to his seat, Hikaru was immediately met by a familiar silver-haired figure.
"Wow, Hikaru! That was incredible! I'm totally in love with you!"
Yuki-senpai threw her arms around him in excitement, catching Hikaru off guard.
"Let go, senpai," Hikaru stammered awkwardly, trying to gently pry her off.
"It's not just luck, you know. You were amazing!"
Yuki blushed but didn't back down. "You're too modest, Hikaru. Don't you know how attractive humility is?"
Before Hikaru could respond, a familiar voice cut through the moment.
"Congratulations, big brother, on your championship win."
Turning, Hikaru saw Sakura Hayashi approaching with her usual graceful demeanor, though her eyes flicked briefly to the silver-haired senpai clinging to him.
"This must be one of your teammates?" she asked politely.
"Yes, this is Yuki-senpai," Hikaru said, nodding.
The two girls shook hands, their smiles polite but their gazes sharp with unspoken competition. The tension between them didn't go unnoticed by the rest of the team, who could only look on in envy.
"Big brother, the next match is starting," Sakura Hayashi said, her voice light yet carrying a hint of teasing. It was her turn to battle, and she gracefully made her way to the stage.
"Go for it, and aim for the championship!" Hikaru called after her with a smile.
"Of course," Sakura Hayashi replied with a playful wink before stepping confidently into the arena.
Watching her battle, Yuki-senpai sighed, "You've got quite the talented little sister, Hikaru."
"Ah, well…" Hikaru scratched his head awkwardly.
"She's strong, but don't think I'll give up that easily!" Yuki-senpai declared, her eyes blazing with determination.
"Um, give up on what?" Hikaru asked, baffled.
"You'll see," she said cryptically, leaving Hikaru to wonder what she meant.
Meanwhile, Sakura Hayashi's match ended swiftly. Her Dratini obliterated her opponent with a single Dragon Rage, leaving no room for doubt about her dominance. As the league's senior matches continued, Hikaru's focus shifted. The high school championship had concluded, and he could finally relax.
Back at school, his homeroom teacher, Miss Qin, was brimming with pride. Not only had Hikaru won the championship, but he had also secured additional prizes for the school. Among them was a rare C-grade Charcoal, which boosted the power of Fire-type moves by 10-15%.
Even Coach Luo Hoshino couldn't hide his admiration. Patting Hikaru on the shoulder, he said, "Well done!"
However, not everyone shared the celebration.
Late that evening, Sakura Hayashi sat in her room, her expression tense.
"Someone's targeting him," came a low, chilling voice.
"I can't just sit by and let that happen. Gengar, go protect him," Sakura Hayashi ordered.
"But Gengar's priority is protecting you, young lady," the voice replied firmly.
Her fingers tightened around her Poké Ball as she whispered, "Then I'll protect him myself."
