章 7: Roger Arrives on O'Hara
A couple of months after the tiger attack, which Viktor pretends didn't happen, Viktor and Raven were fishing out on the beach. Then, Viktor noticed something approaching on the horizon," Hey, Raven, what's that dot way off in the distance? "
" Hmm, well I guess it's probably a ship. Not sure who's ship it is though. "
Raven then channels here inner Nico Robin and puts her hand on her face, " What if it's a pirate ship here to plunder our wealth and reap our lives? Our deaths would be quite gruesome. "
" Cmon Raven, don't joke around like that. It's probably just a merchant ship, pirates rarely come here. After all, there's only books here no treasure. "
Viktor then pulled his telescope out of his bag to check. Viktor then said horrified, " God damn it Raven, you just had to set up a flag. It is a pirate ship. Also, that flag seems really familiar. "
Then Viktors face paled even more, " Shit, fuck, fuck, shiiiiit!! It's the Roger pirates. One of the 3 legendary pirate crews. I thought they were supposed to be in the new world. Why the fuck are they here in the west blue? "
While other reincarnates might be happy to be able to meet Gold D. Roger, Viktor wasn't.
In the One Piece anime and manga, Gol D. Roger was painted in an almost heroic light, but this is real life. While this world may have some similarities to the One Piece world, it would be foolish to make the assumption it's exactly the same and the characters will act the same.
In fact, the Roger pirates are infamous as vicious pirates that have destroyed entire countries. Since Viktor was well aware of how powerful Roger is, there was no way he could keep calm about his arrival, no matter what his past life's memories told him.
Viktor and Raven then hightailed it out of there to tell Professor Jones what happened. Viktor started banging on the professor's door and yelled," Professor, open up, something terrible has happened. "
The professor then opened the door, annoyed at all the noise Viktor was making," What the hell are you kids yammering on about?"
Viktor told Professor Jones that it would be best to talk inside. Raven and Viktor then went inside and sat down.
Professor Jones then put on a serious face," OK, what happened that has you so panicked?"
" The Roger pirates have arrived on O'Hara. One of the 3 legendary pirate crews have arrived. We are soooo screwed!! "
The tension on Professor Jones's face diminished," Whew, you really had me worried kid. Turns out it was just Roger. He did tell me he was going to visit."
Professor Jones then rubbed the back of his head apologetically," Sorry for scaring you guys. I probably should have told you guys he was coming. Although, to be fair, I did tell him to call me when they arrived to prevent something like this from happening. "
Viktor looked at him skeptically, " Hold up! From the way you're talking, it sounds like you're actually friends with Gold Roger. That can't be right, can it? I mean, c'mon, it's you. Back me up Raven."
Raven nodded in agreement, but Professor Jones still sported an arrogant look on his face," Hmph, you kids don't know who you're dealing with. I've traveled across the entire world, making friends everywhere, including Roger. In fact, Roger's the one who called me because he had some interesting ancient text he needed deciphering."
Raven looked at Professor Jones in horror, " But Roger's a pirate, one of the worst ones in the world. Why do you sound so proud to be friends with him?"
Professor Jones looked at Raven with concern in his eyes. It seems her past trauma really distorted her world view," I understand why you'd think that, but you have to keep an open mind. The world isn't just black and white, it's different shades of Grey."
"To be honest, I don't really consider Roger a pirate. Roger is really an adventurer, but he waves a jolly Roger because he thinks that showcases his desire for freedom."
Raven calmed down after hearing this and Viktor continued," Damn, didn't know you rolled like that. What next, you buddies with the marine hero Garp? "
" Uh, kind of, yeah. In fact, my iron fist of Love was inherited from him."
" What?! You actually know the marine hero Garp! I was just kidding when I suggested that. Damn, maybe you actually are a secret big shot. Wait, what was that last part? Did you say he's the reason I have to suffer from your Iron Fist of Love? Damn you Gaaarp!"
" Me a big shot, hahaha hahaha, no not really. I only meet Roger by chance a long time ago. " Professor Jones said with a reminiscent look in his eyes. Professor Jones then told the story of how he meet both Roger and Garp.
Many years ago, when he was sailing in the New World for archeological sites, but he encountered a storm and got shipwrecked. While he was stranded, he meet the Roger pirates, who were just following their log pose.
After Professor Jones told Roger that he was an archeologist, Roger showed him a rubbing he made of some text from an ancient site the Roger pirates found. When Professor Jones successfully deciphered the text, Roger offered him the chance to see the actual site itself, to which Professor Jones happily agreed.
Because of Roger's special observation haki ability, the Voice of All Things, he had a knack for finding ancient sites. However, all Roger could sense was some of the residual will from the ancients who created the ruins, and all of the text and other info was foreign to him.
Being an explorer, Roger wanted to know everything he could about the voices of the people he sensed. Only then could he consider his adventure completed.
After Professor Jones finished deciphering the ancient ruin and Roger finally completed his adventure, Roger offered Professor Jones a spot on his crew, but he declined. After traveling the New World, Professor Jones knew he simply wasn't strong enough to join Roger's crew.
Instead, he asked Roger to send him images and video via transponder snail when he found anything interesting. Professor Jones finally decided to go to the West Sea to join O'Hara that was spearheaded by the legendary professor Clover.
While he was with Roger, Crocus also meet Garp for the first time. Garp was hell bent on catching Roger and threw cannonballs at the Oro Jackson at supersonic speeds. Thankfully, the crew managed to intercept the cannonballs, but then Roger and Garp clashed head on.
Their clash tore apart the sky and sea for entire kilometers. Professor Jones almost fell overboard because of the clash and was saved by Silvers Raleigh.
Since Professor Jones wasn't a member of the crew, Roger wanted to get him to a safe place, so Roger acted like he was his hostage. Roger then used Crocus as an opportunity to escape Garp's pursuit and threw Crocus over to him.
After Professor Jones landed on the boat, Garp started throwing cannonballs, but the Roger pirates successfully escaped. Once he realized that Roger escaped, Garp immediately fell asleep while standing up.
Professor Jones was understandably surprised by this and asked Garp's right hand man, Bogard, " Uh, is he OK? He literally feel asleep while standing up. I didn't even know that was possible?"
Bogard reassured Professor Jones, " Oh that? Don't worry about it. He does this all the time."
As Crocus spent more time on Garp's ship, he came to realize that Garp didn't act anything like the naval hero he is said to be.
Like Bogard said, Garp often falls asleep standing up, even mid-sentence. When he's not sleeping, he's challenging himself to a senbei eating contest, yes, a senbei contest, or showcasing the Iron Fist of Love as he calls it to his son to train him.
Viktor interrupted Professor Jones's story," It seems I'm finally not the only one that is tormented by the Iron Fist of Love. By the way, why do you always hit me and not Raven? "
" Obviously because I don't act like an idiot. Also, I'm a cute little girl, how could he possibly hit something so cute? "
" Yep, that's pretty much it. Although it's also a form of training. In fact, Iron fist of Love!"
" Alright, where was I? I already told you how I know both Roger and Garp. Oh, yes, take me to where you saw their ship. I want to see if we can still be discreet about this. "
Viktor and Raven then lead to the beach where they saw the Roger pirates ship, the Oro Jackson. When they arrived, they saw the ship anchored ashore and the crew already ashore. Standing right there was the man, the myth, the legend, the future pirate King, Gol D. Roger.
