章 71: Chapter 71: The Sea Alliance Tournament

Jing Shaoyu couldn't pass up such a golden opportunity to benefit from the Mecha Association's resources.

Wu Mian was thrilled as he enthusiastically explained the structure of the Sea Alliance Tournament's design, manufacturing, and repair competitions for mecha.

Each competition was divided into two parts: theory and practical skills. The theory portion was straightforward, a written exam with a maximum score of 100.

The practical portion was the heart of each contest. For Mecha Designers, it involved correcting, modifying, enhancing, and completing blueprints, selecting and aligning soul formations, managing material choices, and screening. Mecha Manufacturers had to fabricate soul tools, components, and engrave soul formations. Mecha Repairers simply needed to repair a damaged mecha within the set time, with scores based on the quality of the repair.

The practical segment was worth 200 points, making it the decisive part of the competition.

With a solid understanding of the tournament structure, Jing Shaoyu left the association, noting Wu Mian's pleased expression. Given Jing Shaoyu's level, nearly a fourth-level professional, Wu Mian was confident that the titles for Mecha Designer, Manufacturer, and Repairer in the Junior Division were practically reserved for Eastsea Mecha Association.

That evening, while having dinner at the academy, Jing Shaoyu shared his news with his friends.

"Shaoyu, does this mean you'll represent Eastsea Mecha Association in the tournament?" Tang Wulin asked excitedly. "That's great! I'll be there too for the Forging Association. We can go together!"

"Hehe," Jing Shaoyu chuckled. "It looks like it won't just be the two of us, but the whole Class Zero."

"Huh?" Xie Xie asked in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Shaoyu's saying that we'll probably all participate in the Sea Alliance Tournament, representing Eastsea Academy," Xu Xiaoyan quickly understood. "But that puts us at a disadvantage. We'll just barely qualify for the Junior Division, meaning we'll likely face opponents who are a year or two, maybe even three or four years, older than us."

"Isn't that unfair?" Xie Xie exclaimed. "Come to think of it, we're really in a tough spot. If we join this year's Sea Alliance Tournament, we're in the Junior Division. Then next year's All-Federation Tournament will still put us in the Junior Division, ages ten to fifteen. We'll be eleven, and most competitors will probably be twelve, thirteen, fourteen, or even fifteen. We're at such a disadvantage. Even if we wait until the following tournament, we'd be sixteen, just barely qualifying for the Youth Division. This… this is unfair!"

Jing Shaoyu laughed, "Why be so pessimistic? You need to believe in yourself."

"That's right," Gu Yue interjected firmly. "What's wrong with being eleven? Who says we can't win a championship? If you can't believe in yourself, how can you achieve anything?"

Her words were clear and decisive, igniting everyone's spirit. They all stared at Gu Yue, surprised by her unusually intense attitude. Was this really Gu Yue? How strange.

Seeing all eyes on her, Gu Yue blushed, abruptly stood up, and left without a word.

"She's right," Jing Shaoyu said. "If the academy is preparing us to participate in this year's Sea Alliance Tournament, then we must not let the other grades or rival academies underestimate us!"

"Exactly!" Xu Xiaoyan agreed.

"Count me in!" Tang Wulin added.

"That's right! I have dual martial souls—I can't let anyone down!" Xie Xie said, his confidence reignited.

After dinner, Xu Xiaoyan dragged Jing Shaoyu for a walk around the academy.

"Shaoyu, what's the story behind Teacher Wu?" Xu Xiaoyan asked, clinging to Jing Shaoyu's arm and looking up with curiosity.

"Why are you asking now?" Jing Shaoyu looked at her, puzzled.

"Well, not for any big reason," she grinned, "but a few upperclassmen girls were asking me about him this afternoon."

"Oh, I see." Jing Shaoyu chuckled. Wu Zhangkong's popularity at Eastsea Academy was undeniable. He wasn't only incredibly handsome but also the strongest teacher in the academy, making him quite popular among the senior girls.

"So, what's his background?" Xu Xiaoyan leaned in closer, her bright eyes full of curiosity. "I asked my family, but they were evasive and didn't want to tell me anything."

"Haha," Jing Shaoyu laughed. "Actually, Teacher Wu's background is simple—he was a student at Shrek Academy."

"Shrek Academy!" Xu Xiaoyan's eyes widened in disbelief, her expression frozen in awe.

Indeed, Shrek Academy's fame and influence were unmatched. To nearly every soul master in the Federation, it was a sacred place. Even on the other two continents across the sea, the name of Shrek Academy was well-known.

This was the invisible power that came from two millennia of heritage, and even when Shrek Academy was later destroyed, it was quickly rebuilt. Although Tang Wulin and the Tang Sect played a significant role in its restoration, much of it was due to the vast reputation Shrek Academy had built up over the millennia.

Most soul master families on the Douluo Continent, if not directly, had some connection to Shrek Academy, with ancestors who were once Shrek students.

"Is it really that surprising?" Jing Shaoyu chuckled, patting Xu Xiaoyan's cheek.

"But it's Shrek Academy! I never imagined Teacher Wu was from Shrek," she said, still in awe. "But why did he come to Eastsea City?"

Jing Shaoyu shrugged. "That, I don't know."

Xu Xiaoyan, slightly disappointed, nodded, setting her curiosity aside. "Shaoyu, do you think we could have a chance to enter Shrek Academy in the future?"

Jing Shaoyu smiled, ruffling her hair. "Of course! We're geniuses, aren't we?"

"But," Xu Xiaoyan said hesitantly, "I've heard there are countless geniuses on the continent, but only a few get into Shrek Academy. And we're from a place as remote as Eastsea City, with few soul masters and no Title Douluo. How can we compare to people from more prosperous areas?"

"That's where you're mistaken," Jing Shaoyu said, gently cupping her face. "Yes, other areas may have more soul masters, but their overall abilities are fairly similar. Don't forget, Xiaoyan, you're a great soul master with two thousand-year rings and a unique Star Staff martial soul. If that isn't enough to enter Shrek Academy, then their admissions officer must be blind!"

Xu Xiaoyan giggled, "You're so bold, Shaoyu, but I like it!"

Her confidence renewed, Xu Xiaoyan hugged his arm, her steps becoming light and cheerful as they continued their walk.

Once they were done, the two returned to their dorms. They parted ways at Xu Xiaoyan's door, which was one room over from Gu Yue's. When Jing Shaoyu walked past Gu Yue's room, he noticed the lights were already off, surprising him.

"Lights off already? Isn't that a bit early?" he mused, shaking his head with a faint smile.

Entering his room and turning on the light, he was startled to see Gu Yue sitting on his bed, flipping through his copy of The Theory of Mecha Design. When she noticed him, she stood up and approached him slowly.

"Why are you here?" Jing Shaoyu asked, surprised by her unexpected visit.

"Bored, so I came over to have a look," Gu Yue said, her face impassive as she moved close, just a few centimeters shorter than him, her face tilted up, her breath warm against his face, making his heart flutter.

They stared at each other in silence, the atmosphere in the room turning a bit strange.

Eventually, Gu Yue looked away, muttering, "Shameless."

With a flash of silver, she vanished, leaving only a faint fragrance and traces of space elements in the air.

"What a mystery," Jing Shaoyu scratched his head, then chuckled as he realized, Could it be… she's jealous?
