"This grading system is something unique to our Spirit Pagoda," Leng Yaozhu explained with a smile. "We categorize soul spirits by age and quality, dividing each level into nine smaller ranks. For instance, a purple soul spirit between 1,000 and 2,000 years is classified as a one-star purple soul spirit. Your current soul spirit, for example, is at the three-star purple level."
"Oh, I get it now." Jing Shaoyu nodded, then chuckled, thinking aloud, "I guess this makes it easier to price these soul spirits too?"
"Smart thinking!" Leng Yaozhu laughed, ruffling his hair. "Now go ahead and absorb the spirit power."
"Understood!" Jing Shaoyu nodded eagerly and sat cross-legged beside the Bright Saint Tiger's lifeless form. With his hands clasped, he began channeling the immense spiritual energy into himself, closing his eyes to concentrate.
The absorption process went smoothly, with Leng Yaozhu, an Ultimate Douluo, by his side. There was no room for error. When Jing Shaoyu opened his eyes, they sparkled with excitement. Having a powerful mentor made all the difference—gaining 2,500 years of spirit power with ease was incredible! If he had relied solely on himself, it would've taken at least two years to accumulate this much power.
"Finished absorbing?" Leng Yaozhu's voice brought him back.
"Yes, all done," Jing Shaoyu replied, standing up and nodding.
"Great! Let's keep going," Leng Yaozhu said with a smile. "I know of another 50,000-year-old soul beast nearby, so let's head over."
Taking his hand, they continued their journey. They soon found themselves at a pond, where a massive Diamond Mammoth with a 50,000-year cultivation was drinking peacefully, unaware of its impending doom.
With a graceful leap, Leng Yaozhu soared into the air. Golden flames encased her feet, and she descended onto the mammoth's back. The impact was so deceptively light, like a leaf settling, yet it felt to the mammoth as if a mountain had crashed onto it, stifling its strength, igniting its blood, and scorching its flesh.
With a gentle flip, Leng Yaozhu landed elegantly beside the fallen mammoth and called out, "A-Yuan, come absorb this one's power too!"
Jing Shaoyu hurried over, his heart pounding with excitement. Absorbing the spiritual energy of this beast meant his soul spirit's age would exceed 8,000 years!
Once again, the process went smoothly. When he stood up and summoned his soul rings, they had taken on a dark purple hue, with a faint trace of black.
"Excellent, excellent!" Leng Yaozhu clapped with satisfaction. "Now, by the time you reach four rings, you'll be able to attempt to acquire black soul spirits. Having four ten-thousand-year rings at the Soul Ancestor level… well, I doubt there's any historical precedent for that in the Federation! Keep it up, A-Yuan!"
"Yes, Teacher, I'll do my best!" Jing Shaoyu felt a surge of ambition and determination filling his heart.
"Alright, our work here is complete. Let's exit the Ascension Platform." Leng Yaozhu smiled.
The two exited the Ascension Platform together. Upon awakening from the access pod, Jing Shaoyu glanced to his left. In the adjacent pod lay Leng Yaozhu, whose graceful form was accentuated by the pod's sleek design. A rush of admiration—bordering on something he quickly restrained—flooded his mind, forcing him to repeat the rules of conduct he'd just learned to clear his thoughts.
"A-Yuan, why were you shaking your head? Are you feeling unwell?" Leng Yaozhu had already exited her pod and approached him with concern.
"No, no, I'm fine." Jing Shaoyu quickly straightened up, offering an awkward smile.
"Well, come on then," Leng Yaozhu tapped his forehead lightly, "let's grab something to eat."
"Sure!" Jing Shaoyu had already regained his composure and followed her out of the workshop, taking note of the luxurious, fully equipped floor—entirely hers, featuring a training room, study, lounge, and more.
As they descended in a red elevator, his curiosity got the better of him. "Teacher, is this entire floor yours?"
"That's right," Leng Yaozhu said with a smile. "The Spirit Pagoda headquarters has 108 floors, and the 101st and 107th floors are all mine. We were just on the 101st, my private floor, accessible only to me. The 107th floor is where I conduct official work. You're welcome to visit the 101st floor anytime you're at headquarters."
"Got it," Jing Shaoyu said in awe. "Wow, the Spirit Pagoda must be loaded!"
Leng Yaozhu chuckled proudly. "Of course! When it comes to wealth, not even ten Shrek Academies could compare to us! Our Pagoda's principle is business only, no politics. Every Pagoda Master has strictly followed this rule for generations."
Jing Shaoyu grinned, adding, "So, Teacher, what if a Pagoda Master one day ignored this principle, wanting to turn the Spirit Pagoda into the true ruler of the Federation? What would happen then?"
Leng Yaozhu laughed softly. "Then the Vice Pagoda Master would likely be very happy, as he would be fully justified in replacing the Master. Our decision-making body consists of one Master, two Vice Masters, four Spirit Envoys, and thirty-six Elders. The Master and the two Vice Masters have equal authority, meaning unless the Master convinces both Vice Masters, they can be ousted."
"Interesting," Jing Shaoyu nodded in understanding.
"Alright, let's not dwell on things that don't concern you yet," Leng Yaozhu ruffled his hair affectionately. "Your focus should be on advancing your cultivation and honing your skills. Once your abilities reach a certain level, Teacher will see to it that you join as a Spirit Envoy directly."
"I understand," Jing Shaoyu replied, determined.
The elevator stopped on the thirty-third floor, a dining area exclusive to the Pagoda's top members and core staff. Decorated in opulent splendor, it made even Eastsea City's finest hotels seem plain by comparison.
"Your Excellency Tianfeng, welcome!" A charming server greeted them at the elevator's exit. "Your private dining room is ready. Please follow me."
Leng Yaozhu nodded coolly, and they were escorted to a private room with a long table laden with exquisitely plated dishes.
"Sit," Leng Yaozhu gestured to a chair. "Have a taste of the Spirit Pagoda's food; let's see if it suits your palate."
Jing Shaoyu didn't hesitate, sitting down eagerly and eyeing the dishes, his mouth watering. "Thank you, Teacher. Then, let's eat!"
He picked up a piece of dragon meat—soft, tender, and flavorful. As he swallowed, warmth spread through his body, filling his limbs with a pleasant heat and stirring his qi and blood, giving him a slight boost in vitality.
Jing Shaoyu paused, his face flushed, as he focused on absorbing this unexpected surge of energy.
"That's braised dragon meat," Leng Yaozhu explained, amused. "It's from a 50,000-year-old sea dragon, known to enhance vitality and physical strength."
"A 50,000-year-old sea dragon?!" Jing Shaoyu froze, staring at the dish with newfound appreciation. No wonder it tasted so rich! Without hesitation, he helped himself to another bite, finding it easier to manage the second time around.
