Upon hearing this voice, the crowd blocking the path slowly lowered their weapons and parted to give Lin Feng and Caitlyn a way through.
However, no one dared to let their guard down. Everyone in the Fugen Tavern kept a close watch on Lin Feng and Caitlyn's every move.
Lin Feng didn't hesitate at all; once he entered the uninhabited area, he strode confidently into the tavern.
Caitlyn was also confused, but she didn't show it. Instead, she quickly followed Lin Feng's pace. Seeing that the tavern's patrons had put away their weapons, she also retracted her rifle.
Just as they stepped into the Fugen Tavern, a system prompt suddenly sounded.
**[Mission Issued]**
**[Mission Objective: Find Jinx]**
**[Mission Reward: 100 Gold, Microglow Alchemy]**
**[Mission Time Limit: 3 Days]**
**[Mission Failure Penalty: -10 Favorability with Jinx]**
It was Lin Feng's first experience with two missions appearing at once.
He remained expressionless and continued walking forward.
Is Jinx here?
In the dim tavern, at the innermost table, sat a fierce-looking woman who appeared to have come from Noxus.
Her arm had been replaced with a mechanical one, which contrasted sharply with the elegant Hextech; the entire mechanical arm bore a distinct Zaun style, with faint purple light emanating from the mechanical hand.
Microglow technology.
Lin Feng recognized this woman as she was the one who first opposed Vander, angrily denouncing his weakness.
Later, she directly defected to Silco's faction, pursuing her vision of an ideal Zaun.
After Silco's death, she became one of Jinx's subordinates.
At least in name.
However, in reality, she was fully responsible for all matters regarding microglow; Jinx merely held the title.
Lin Feng had learned from Heimerdinger's map that this woman's name was Deyana.
Lin Feng approached the table and sat down.
"I don't know what you law enforcement officers are looking for?"
The hypocritical polite words were merely a veiled mockery. Lin Feng did not mince words, "We're looking for whoever stole the Hexstone."
At this mention, Deyana's expression turned less natural; she frowned, her tone turning unfriendly, "We don't have the person you're looking for here."
Lin Feng's expression remained unchanged.
"Whether or not you have them, we'll find out after searching."
With that, Lin Feng turned his head and gave Caitlyn a nod.
Caitlyn was startled; she felt as if she had become a mere accessory, while Lin Feng seemed to take on the role of a true law enforcement officer.
Nevertheless, Caitlyn did not hesitate in her duties; she turned and began searching various rooms and corners of the tavern.
Deyana was taken aback, not expecting Lin Feng to act so decisively, knowing they were only two people.
She recognized Caitlyn as the newly renowned law enforcement officer from Piltover.
Yet, this high-ranking law enforcement officer now acted like a common guard, yielding to the man in front of her. Deyana had to reassess the identity of this man.
Who... exactly is he?
Has the severity of this matter reached such a point?
If looks could kill, Deyana would have killed Lin Feng over a hundred times by now.
She coldly stared at Lin Feng, but he merely looked back at her indifferently.
With his power of runic energy, he felt no fear.
For a moment, the air grew tense.
Deyana did not stop Caitlyn's actions, nor did Lin Feng make any deeper demands.
Both were testing each other's limits, but fortunately, neither crossed the line.
After a detailed search of over ten minutes, Caitlyn even checked the basement.
Jinx wasn't here, nor was there any sign of Hexstones—at least on the surface.
Caitlyn returned to Lin Feng's side and shook her head, indicating no findings.
"Law enforcement officer, since there's nothing we want, can we leave now?"
Deyana took a puff from her pipe and exhaled a thick cloud of smoke toward Lin Feng.
"Where is Jinx?" Lin Feng seemingly ignored her question, "This case is bigger than the last one; Piltover's prison needs someone, you should understand, right?"
Deyana's expression shifted.
If Vander were here, he could even take the blame for the troubles caused by others.
But she wasn't Vander; in fact, her ideals were completely opposite to his.
*Bang!*
Deyana's mechanical arm slammed down on the table with a loud noise, causing the entire tavern's patrons to return to a state of alert, hands reaching for their weapons.
"I'll warn you one last time; there's no one here you're looking for."
The threat in Deyana's tone was evident.
Lin Feng glanced around, "I hope you don't regret this."
With that, Lin Feng stood up.
"Caitlyn, let's go."
In front of everyone, the two walked out of the Fugen Tavern with bold strides.
Although no one obstructed them, the gazes of the tavern patrons sent Lin Feng and Caitlyn off with the most piercing farewell, as if they were about to be devoured whole.
Once Lin Feng and Caitlyn exited the tavern, everyone's attention returned to Deyana.
Deyana watched the departing figures of the two, falling silent for a moment.
"Go to Jinx. If those two law enforcement officers dare to go there... just eliminate them both!"
...
After leaving the Fugen Tavern, Lin Feng and Caitlyn walked in silence.
Caitlyn once again donned her gray hooded cloak to conceal her identity.
They wound through alleys until they merged back into the marketplace and entered a little-known side street, where Lin Feng finally found a long bench to sit down with Caitlyn.
"It seems we need to check out that arcade as well," Lin Feng said.
Caitlyn paused, and when she looked at Lin Feng, she saw him deep in thought about their next move.
Recalling the scenes they had just experienced in the tavern, Caitlyn felt her heart skip a beat.
If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would have believed Lin Feng had just pulled off an internal blackmail scheme in Zaun.
This man, who was sometimes fierce and sometimes gentle, seemed to possess a charm Caitlyn had never seen before.
Lin Feng remained oblivious to Caitlyn's unusual demeanor, concentrating on what to do next.
His use of such strong tactics was indeed adapting to the local customs.
"Speak with a fist," that was a tradition in Zaun.
And the mysterious aura he brought made Deyana hesitant to act recklessly.
This was Lin Feng's tactical strategy; in the upper city, such methods would not work.
The sudden task from the system directed him to find Jinx within three days; in other words, Lin Feng already knew Jinx wasn't in the tavern when he was there.
However, what surprised Lin Feng the most was that there were no signs of Hexstones in the Fugen Tavern either.
Logically speaking, traces of magic should leave some evidence, but the Fugen Tavern had none.
The few stones Heimerdinger had given Caitlyn were his personal stock, and the Wildfire Gang wouldn't raid Hextech in the upper city.
So the question arises.
Where have the Hexstones gone?
