Russell wasn't too surprised that Cassandra could escape like that. After all, Professor X had done it as well.
However, he looked at Khonshu in the distance. He didn't believe that this "god" who could control the moon couldn't contain her.
Even during the previous battle, the god might not have shown his full power.
More importantly, Russell sensed that he still wasn't safe.
Though his expression was calm, he was on high alert. His spider-sense was heightened to the extreme, ready to deploy the venom suit at any moment and use the power of the siren to escape.
But he knew it would probably be useless - there was simply too much power disparity between them.
Russell took a deep breath. It felt terrible to have his fate in someone else's hands.
Winning against the Captain Hydra, Mordo, and others had been easy, which had subconsciously made him lose his sense of danger - and even become a bit arrogant.
Entering the black market unprepared had been a mistake. Even without the TVA, Cassandra might still have come.
But the experience taught him something more important. The powers he had gained, though seemingly strong enough to deal with most of the Void, meant nothing against a truly formidable opponent.
The TemPad needed to be repaired as soon as possible. While the Void could serve as a base, he couldn't hide in the Doomsday timeline forever.
To grow stronger, he needed to leave and seek opportunities in the timelines.
Suddenly, Russell felt a burning gaze upon him, and the voice of ancient wisdom sounded again:
"Don't be so nervous, human. You've already paid your debt in advance."
Russell hid his relief and smiled politely. "Thank you, Mr. Khonshu, for your help."
Khonshu's hollow eyes betrayed nothing, but Russell sensed a smile in them. Then Khonshu laughed and said:
"No need to thank me; this is fairness... something I hold dear. Besides, I've wanted to warn Cassandra for a long time - she's become too reckless."
Russell didn't question why Khonshu hadn't killed Cassandra or ask about hidden secrets.
He was just glad when the god turned into light and disappeared without leaving any further instructions.
Russell sighed in relief. He had half expected the god to assign him some task. After all, in all the third-rate novels he'd read, that's how it went - getting caught up in the schemes of some powerful figure, leading to one dangerous situation after another.
"Great, he's not interested in me."
Feeling that the crisis had truly passed, Russell turned to Human Torch, who was lying dazed on the ground.
"Hey, Flame Baby! Are you still with us? Wake up!"
Russell gently slapped Jhonny's face to bring him back to reality.
The next moment, Jhonny jerked to his feet, groaning. "That crazy woman! A giant like that almost crushed me!"
Russell grinned. "Her mental power is still there; she can probably hear you."
"What?!" Jhonny's face went blank with fear, looking utterly defeated.
Seeing Human Torch's horror actually lifted Russell's spirits. He didn't want to suffer alone - good friends shared the burden.
Realizing that Russell was joking, Human Torch forced a smile. "I just came to the black market for some supplies and almost lost my life! And now, thanks to this, she might really come after me one day."
Russell patted his shoulder. "Don't worry, when the time comes, I'll help you take her down."
Human Torch rolled his eyes. "You can't even protect yourself and you're offering to help me?"
"When that day comes, you'll call me 'Daddy'!" Russell teased.
Human Torch laughed, though he quickly added, "Sure. But until then, you better stay out of trouble."
Russell grinned. "Actually, I need a favor."
Human Torch's guard shot up, instinctively covering himself. "What are you up to now?"
Russell glared. "Relax! I just need you to take these adamantium alloys to the black market. Trade them for some parts of steel armor with computer components."
The adamantium alloys were valuable; Russell estimated that he could trade them for at least two parts.
And as for why he didn't want to go himself... he didn't want to risk Khonshu watching him any longer.
Jhonny sighed in relief - he'd been spared any other favors. Without question, he picked up Cassandra's remains and headed back to the black market.
About ten minutes later, Human Torch returned with three pieces of armor. With his haul secure, Russell headed home in his Honda Odyssey, grateful to have made it back in one piece.
For now, all that remained was to crack the TemPad and plan his next move.
