10% The Billionaire And His Heiress / Chapter 5: A Dangerous Alliance

章 5: A Dangerous Alliance

Leon paced the length of his office, his face a mask of controlled fury as he processed the information from the tablet. Isabella stood across from him, her arms folded tightly, watching him with a mix of curiosity and frustration. Whatever was happening, it was serious, but he wasn't giving her any answers.

Finally, he stopped pacing and fixed his piercing blue eyes on her. "This is bigger than you realize, Isabella. Your family isn't just under threat from me. There are others circling, waiting for the right moment to strike. And it looks like that moment is now."

Isabella's heart skipped a beat. "What are you talking about? Who's coming after my family?"

Leon tossed the tablet onto his desk, his jaw clenched. "Competitors. Rivals. People who would love nothing more than to see the Harrington empire fall. And it looks like someone is making a move to take advantage of the chaos."

Her mind raced, trying to process the implications. She had expected Leon to be her biggest threat, but now he was telling her there were others? People she didn't even know about, lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce?

"Why should I believe you?" she asked, her voice edged with skepticism. "For all I know, you could be behind this."

Leon's expression darkened. "If I wanted to destroy your family, I wouldn't need anyone else's help. I'm telling you this because we're both in danger. You're not the only one with enemies, Isabella."

Her pulse quickened as she realized the gravity of the situation. She had assumed this was just a battle between her and Leon, but now it seemed like they were both caught in a much larger game. And the stakes were higher than she had ever imagined.

"So what are you suggesting?" she asked, her voice steady despite the turmoil swirling inside her.

Leon stepped closer, his presence commanding as always. "A truce. We work together to figure out who's behind this and stop them before it's too late."

Isabella's breath caught in her throat. The last thing she wanted was to form any kind of alliance with Leon King. He was the embodiment of everything she despised—ruthless, manipulative, and entirely self-serving. But if what he was saying was true, they might not have a choice.

"And how do I know I can trust you?" she demanded, her green eyes narrowing in suspicion.

Leon's gaze held hers, unwavering. "You can't. But you don't have a better option. You can keep fighting me, or you can work with me and protect what's left of your family's legacy."

The room fell silent as Isabella weighed her options. Every instinct screamed at her to walk away, to keep fighting Leon with everything she had. But deep down, she knew he was right. She couldn't take on a hidden enemy by herself—not when her father was too ill to help and her family's company was already hanging by a thread.

Reluctantly, she nodded. "Fine. We'll work together. But make no mistake, Leon, this doesn't mean I trust you."

A small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, though his eyes remained serious. "Fair enough."

Without another word, Leon moved behind his desk and pulled up a series of files on his computer. Isabella watched as he brought up a list of companies and individuals, most of whom she didn't recognize. But the one name that caught her eye made her blood run cold.

"Felix Grayson?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Leon glanced at her, his expression unreadable. "You know him?"

Isabella swallowed hard, memories flooding back. "He's a competitor. My father's been in legal battles with his company for years. But we thought he'd been neutralized. His business was nearly bankrupt after the last lawsuit."

Leon shook his head. "Looks like Grayson wasn't as down and out as you thought. He's been quietly rebuilding, and now he's making moves. If these documents are accurate, he's targeting Harrington Industries for a hostile takeover."

Isabella's heart pounded in her chest. Felix Grayson had been a thorn in her family's side for as long as she could remember. He was ruthless and cunning, but her father had always managed to outmaneuver him. The idea that he was now poised to strike while her father was vulnerable filled her with dread.

"And you're just telling me this now?" she snapped, her anger flaring. "You knew Grayson was a threat, and you didn't bother to warn me?"

Leon's eyes hardened. "I've been monitoring him for weeks, but I didn't have concrete proof until now. And besides, we weren't exactly on speaking terms, were we?"

Isabella glared at him, biting back the retort on the tip of her tongue. He had a point, but that didn't make her any less furious. She hated being kept in the dark, especially when her family's future was at stake.

"So what do we do now?" she asked, her voice tight with frustration.

Leon leaned forward, his expression deadly serious. "We stop him. Together."

The idea of teaming up with Leon King still made her stomach churn, but she knew she couldn't do this alone. If Felix Grayson was really planning a takeover, she would need every ally she could get—no matter how reluctant.

"Fine," she muttered, crossing her arms defensively. "What's the plan?"

Leon's lips curled into a grim smile. "First, we gather intel. Grayson is smart, but he's not invincible. We find out where he's vulnerable, and we hit him where it hurts."

Isabella nodded, her mind already racing with possibilities. She had contacts in the legal and financial sectors, people who owed her father favors. If they could dig up dirt on Grayson's recent business dealings, they might be able to derail his plans before he could launch the takeover.

But even as her brain worked through the logistics, a nagging doubt crept into her mind. Could she really trust Leon? He had his own motives for wanting Grayson out of the picture, and she couldn't shake the feeling that he was still hiding something from her.

"You're awfully eager to help me," she said, her voice suspicious. "What's in this for you, Leon?"

His blue eyes flashed with something unreadable. "Like I said, Grayson isn't just after your family. He's targeting mine too. If he succeeds, he'll destroy everything I've built. So yes, I have a vested interest in taking him down. But make no mistake, Isabella—this is about survival for both of us."

Isabella studied him for a long moment, trying to read the truth behind his words. But Leon was as much of an enigma as ever, his emotions locked behind that cold, calculating facade.

"All right," she said finally. "We'll stop Grayson. But once this is over, we go back to being enemies."

Leon's smile was small but dangerous. "We'll see."

Before she could respond, her phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, her stomach sinking when she saw the name on the screen.

It was her father's lawyer.

"I need to take this," she muttered, stepping toward the door.

Leon gave her a curt nod, his attention already turning back to his computer. As she stepped into the hallway, Isabella answered the call, her heart racing.

"Isabella," the lawyer's voice was calm, but she could hear the tension underneath. "We have a problem."

Her blood ran cold. "What is it?"

There was a brief pause, and then the lawyer's next words shattered the fragile hope she had been clinging to.

"Your father's condition has worsened. You need to come to the hospital. Now."
