KIERAN 

I could barely breathe as we rushed through the hospital corridors, my heart pounding in my ears. 

It felt like everything had stopped—like the world had gone silent, leaving me alone with the crushing guilt. 

Every step we took toward the emergency room felt like a step further into my own failure.

Archie had been silent since he dragged me out of my house and into his car. His steps, along with mine, pounded the hospital floor as we ran, and he took a sharp left, my legs closing on his. 

Stopping before a hospital room, Archie took a deep breath before he opened the door and stepped in. I walked in behind him, fear tightening like a vise around my neck.

Edwina was lying on a bed, unconscious. Her face, her entire body was littered with cuts. Harriet was standing beside her, still in her party dress.

Her eyes were red rimmed and filled with pain. The moment she saw me though, anger replaced the pain, and she stormed towards me.
