The soldiers in the second row froze. The beast's red eyes flashed terrifyingly as it stood on its two rear tentacles, displaying its massive size.
This beast was very different from the others, not only was it twice the size, but its tentacles seemed to have vertebrae, and at the ends, three sharp fingers appeared menacingly.
On its head, its characteristic horns were twice the size and spiraled in a strange manner with various dangerous points. The color of its horns matched its eyes, giving it an even more terrifying appearance.
Its skeletal torso had two additional tentacles at stomach level, wrapped around its own body.
After letting out its roar, its front limbs touched the ground again, lowered its colossal horns pointing towards the soldiers, and charged in their direction.
The enormous horns were visible to the soldiers in the second row, who watched in horror as the evolved beast advanced.
Meanwhile, the soldiers in front had no time to check what was ahead; their strength was at its limit, and their shields had lost their glow, signaling they were about to disappear. It was clear they wouldn't hold out much longer.
In an instant, the creature made its way through the herd of beasts.
Wade's and the soldier's eyes widened in surprise. They expected the beast to ram its enormous horns into the shields and destroy them. However, the impact never came.
As it neared the shield, the evolved beast released the two tentacles from its torso, revealing that they were much longer than the others, and used them to push the ground forcefully, launching itself into the air and a few meters behind the soldiers.
"¡We're done for!"
Shouted one of the soldiers, just before the beast turned and crushed one of the defenseless soldiers holding the front shield.
With the death of one, a gap opened in the shield wall, allowing the beasts to easily break through and finish off the remaining soldiers.
The soldiers thrust their spears repeatedly, but with little success, as their spears struck the beasts' bodies, barely causing any harm. Unlike their skulls, their bodies were far more resilient.
One after another, the soldiers were impaled by the beasts, unleashing bloody chaos. Some beasts played with the front-line soldiers, while others continued their charge to attack the rear soldiers and the riders, who had formed another defensive line.
However, it wouldn't last long, as their shields were not the same as those on the front line. Each impact forced them to fall back. The riders proved more effective, managing to land solid blows, and with the help of their horses, they could reposition quickly.
Suddenly, one of the beasts that had slipped through the soldiers' spears rushed towards Bright, who was still tending to the agonizing slave.
The beast charged with both horns down, ready to impale him mercilessly. However, a massive sword appeared out of nowhere, striking forcefully between the horns.
The beast died instantly, its body hitting the sand with a heavy thud. Its horns shattered into pieces as the sword was withdrawn from its head, only to swiftly take down another beast that had set its sights on Bright.
"Taiger?" Wade thought, confused. Just a moment ago, Taiger had been right next to him, but now he was with his brother several meters away.
It wasn't unusual for him to want to protect his brother—he was royalty, and his mark would compel him to protect him. But... 'How did he get there so fast?'
However, that was the least of his worries. Now that Taiger had left his side, the beasts were free to attack however and whenever they wanted. And to his misfortune, the Evolved Beast was right in front of him!
The beast seemed preoccupied with one of the riders, who had not yet noticed its deadly gaze while he was fighting off the other tribulations from horseback.
Wade's eyes widened in shock as the enormous beast leaped into the air, snatching the distracted rider from his horse, who hadn't even realized its owner had disappeared from its back and continued to gallop without anyone to guide it.w
Wade watched in horror as the beast held the soldier between its sharp tentacles from its snout, shaking him violently until his body finally tore apart, blood dripping from the beast's maw.
Amid the violent thrashing, a dagger flew from the dead soldier's belt, landing right in front of Wade.
Without hesitation, Wade jumped to grab the dagger, clutching it tightly in his right hand. He then looked up to see that the beast had finished devouring the soldier, and now its two crimson eyes were locked on him.
Seeing the creature, Wade glanced at the small dagger in his hand, realizing how tiny it was compared to the massive beast.
A grin spread across Wade's face just before he roared with all his might, "Come at me, you damned squid!"
Even though he had said it, Wade was terrified inside. The towering beast stood over 7 meters tall, and he was just a mere human with a small dagger. It was clear he wouldn't survive even a single attack from the creature.
However, he wasn't willing to die in a pool of his own tears. Throughout his life, he had always stood firm until the end, and this time would be no different.
As soon as Wade braced himself, the beast seemed to accept his challenge and began charging towards him with thunderous steps.
With every step the beast took, it became more imposing. The pressure it exerted on Wade increased, and its figure seemed to grow larger with each passing second.
'I'm screwed!' he thought. His legs were frozen in place, sweat pouring down his face. He was petrified. However, his gaze remained stubbornly locked in defiance towards the beast.
Making a great effort to move his body, he readied himself for the impact. "At the very least, I'll make you bleed, you bastard!"
But to his surprise, the beast passed right by him, completely ignoring him, heading instead towards the group of chained slaves behind him.
Seeing this, Wade let out a breath of relief. He hadn't even realized he had been holding his breath the entire time, and now that the beast had moved away, he felt as though a massive weight had been lifted from his body.
His eyes shifted to the poor slaves, and a smile crept onto his face. 'I guess a pile of slaves looks much tastier,' he thought.
Wade tightened his grip on the dagger and looked around frantically. The evolved beast may have ignored him, but that didn't mean the others would do the same.
His eyes scanned the entire camp, searching for a 'safe' spot, but to his misfortune, just a few meters away, another tribulation beast was preparing to attack.
