The sweet smell of steamy eggs and freshly baked batter nearly made Isaac sick. He had eaten so many egg tart variants within the past three hours, and now he would have to eat another. As a person who disliked pastries, he tolerated it because of Keira.

Seeing her focused and determined expression while baking them was delightful. The way she pursed her lips whenever it didn't look right, her frowns and grins, and even her confused and lost expressions were oddly amusing.

If he had a daughter like this, he would have become a fool who only knew how to brag about his girl, yet at the same time, he would probably hide her from the world. Isaac wondered if this was how the Castillos felt about Keira, brainwashing her to live quietly in the confines of their home without question.

Perhaps all the pleasing things he saw in her had been from the years of specifically trained actions and reactions by the Castillos.
