章 78: C78: So Familiar

Neon Games lounge area.

During lunch break, Ruan Ningxue and I were leaning back in the massage chairs. While Qin Yi and the others were busy with the game machine.

"The company's benefits keep getting better and better!" Ruan said happily, as she sipped on her Wa-Wa milk tea.

"The main reason is that our profit keeps coming, and there are more and more new people. It will feel a little overwhelming if there is no recreation area. We're a big team now, aren't we?" I added feeling emotional.

This time- last year, she was still working on her illustrations from home.

Looking back at it, it still feels a bit unreal to me.

"We're growing," Ruan added.

"Oh, by the way, Sister Xin and I heard we're attending the gameplay exhibition next?" Ruan Ningxue asked, her excitement evident.

"Yeah, Sister Lin mentioned it, and didn't Mr. Chen already visit the venue?" I replied.

"I've been there before, but only as a spectator. Now we get to host a part of it!" Ruan Ningxue's enthusiasm was infectious.

Just then, Qin Yi and the others finally gave up on the claw machine and joined us on our topic.

"We're going to the exhibition, but it's only two months away. I wonder if Mr. Chen has any new projects for the works?" Qin Yi mused, looking hopeful.

A new project—something we all eagerly anticipate and look forward to at Neon Games.

From a psychological and emotional standpoint, creating something new and watching players react to it was incredibly fulfilling.

On the material side, new projects always brought big rewards.

After the successes of Escape in the year beginning and Overcooked later, Mr. Chen gave us all huge bonuses.

"Two months might be cutting it close, though," a newer employee remarked.

"Yeah, it feels a bit rushed. But since it's an exhibition and not an official release, it might work out," others chimed in.

"You guys are new. Once we start the project, you'll see why Mr. Chen pulls it off," Qin Yi said with a knowing smile.

"Exactly!" The older employees nodded in agreement, their faces filled with admiration.

Escape and Overcooked were launched within short intervals. The way development goes, it always seems like the team runs like a flawless machine. The entire process is so efficient.

We old-timers who've been through it all have practically become Mr. Chen's fans.

We kept chatting, but then Yang Xin suddenly spoke up, her voice full of surprise.

"Check out the workgroup! It's a meeting this afternoon to discuss the new project!" Yang Xin said, waving her phone.

"Is it related to the game exhibition?"

"Not sure what kind of new project it'll be."

"Could it be a multiplayer project? You mentioned the company's development direction in the last meeting."

"Who knows? We'll find out this afternoon when we follow Mr. Chen."

When I opened the work group and saw the notice posted by Chen Xu, everyone became excited instantly.

We all started speculating, about what kind of project we'd be developing next.

In the afternoon, we clocked in one after another for work.

[Shifting to Chen Xu's POV]

Chen Xu arrived with a laptop and called everyone into the conference room for the meeting.

"I'm sure you've all heard some rumors. This time, we'll be participating in the gameplay exhibition in July, and we've secured a spot in the sixth exhibition area."

It's about 500 square meters of exhibition space, it's impressive compared to some medium-sized game developers.

This success comes largely thanks to To the Moon winning the official expedition event earlier, and the subsequent launch of two very popular games.

Hearing this, everyone nodded with a bit of excitement showing on their faces.

I smiled and displayed three folders on the big screen, labeled 1, 2, and 3.

"We're going to introduce some fresh content at this exhibition, but again the timeline will be tight." I continued,

"This time, we're developing two games simultaneously, and during this period, we'll also be preparing a major new title and producing its promotional animation."

"What?!"

Yang Xin, Ruan Ningxue, and Qin Yi—some of Neon Games' veteran employees—looked confused.

As for the newer employees who joined after the start of the year, they looked like Chen Xu was pulling their legs.

Two games in two months, along with a promotional animation for a major release—how is that even possible?

Even the old ones like Ruan Ningxue, Yang Xin, and Qin Yi, who were familiar with Chen Xu's efficiency, were filled with doubt.

If it's just a demo for the exhibition, it might be doable. But two full games?

But from my tone, it might seem like I want to develop all the game content directly.

Can that work?

Everyone listened to my explanation of the two new games we were about to develop, with a hint of curiosity and questions in their minds.

"The first is Three Kingdoms, a strategy card battle game. I've completed the main rules and gameplay. Take a quick look at it."

As I spoke, the corresponding rules of Three Kingdoms appeared on the big screen of the projector, along with rough drafts of some generals and cards.

"The game is divided into four different roles: the lord, the rebel, the loyal minister, and the traitor. Players can choose generals from the Three Kingdoms, and each general will have specific skills."

"The game is further divided into three types of cards: basic cards, equipment cards, and kit cards."

I briefly explained the basic rules and content of Three Kingdoms so everyone could better understand the game.

Due to limited time, I didn't go into much analysis.

However, the people here weren't complete beginners.

Even Ruan Ningxue, who's been involved in several projects since last year, quickly grasped the design draft. With just a quick look, most could understand the core gameplay of the game, even if they weren't sure yet how the game would feel when played.

But what was clear to everyone was that this game wouldn't require too much effort to develop.

The main time-consuming tasks would be dubbing and producing art assets. These could easily be outsourced. If one outsourcing company couldn't handle it, we'd hire two.

The development of Three Kingdoms was almost a breeze. The real challenge lay in the other game—the so-called masterpiece I'd mentioned earlier.

Everyone looked at me, waiting for me to announce the next project.

Seeing their expectant faces, I smiled. "The next game is going to let players decompress and experience pure, unmatched joy. It's all about harmony and love."

If this were a comic, I'm sure Ruan Ningxue, Yang Xin, Qin Yi, and the others would have a row of black question marks hovering above their heads at this moment.

This was so familiar!!!
