章 9: Desert Trip [2]

You know, stuff like cars, trains, planes, boats and other ways of transportation are not appreciated enough by people from modern time.

I didn't truly understand that until I experienced travelling without them.

It's been two days since we started the trip.

There was nothing but sands all around. Thankfully, we didn't encounter anything dangerous yet.

My wood element has been really useful.

The elderly between the people were using branches filled with leaves I made as umbrellas to cover them from the sun, and at night I would just make more branches to burn and start a fire to warm the people up while they were sleeping.

It was very weird to grow branches and then break them off.

It didn't really hurt and I didn't exactly feel anything wrong.

It was just odd to watch your body grow a part specifically just so you can break it off and use it for something.

They tried to offer me some of their food or water.

Baraka even tried to take watch at night to let me sleep.

But, I explained to them that I don't eat or sleep, which just solidified their view that I was some higher being.

They still call me 'great Zack'.

Honestly, that was the best I'm getting out of them, and as long ad they don't start worshipping or praying, I don't really care.

I just want to get these people to Uruk.

Then they're Gilgamesh's problem.

They can worship his egotistical half breed ass as much as they want.

It was nighttime now.

Tomorrow will be the third day of travelling.

I was setting near one of the fires made from my own wood which again felt weird and I was watching over the people so nothing could happen.

I sighed and looked up at the stars. "At least the view is great," I sighed watching something that you probably couldn't see in the future except on rare occasions.

Honestly, I'm surprised I wasn't even thirsty considering I was made of wood in the middle of the dessert.

I thought I'd at least feel dry or something, but I was alright.

I didn't even change elements. (Wait...change elements?) I looked at the fire besides me and began berating myself for being an idiot and not trying this sooner.

Just to be safe, I change to my rock element so that my hand doesn't catch fire if the attempt failed.

I held my hand above the fire, and tried to... take it in, I guess is the expression.

Slowly, that familiar feeling came back, and I began to change into an element I haven't had before.

My body was now entirely made of fire, though it looked a little solid, like flaming charcoal.

The area around me got brighter, but thankfully none of the refugees woke up. "Haven't had a new one in a while," I said while looking at my hands. "Too bad there's no place to try it at the moment,"

I didn't want to endanger the people by experimenting with a new element or leaving them to do that for a while. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Then, a thought struck me as I looked at the sky. "Hmm... I already have water, wood, fire, and rock... I wonder..."

I held my hand upwards and tried to take in the feeling of air and hopefully get another new elements... but I felt nothing.

I sighed as I looked at my hands trying to understand what went wrong. (Okay, so either I need a STRONG source of air, or I can only do it to elements I can touch ) I thought to myself.

Hopefully, it was the former.

The sun began rising.

I needed to wake the people up before it actually did to cover more ground while travelling.

So, I changed back to my wood element to not hurt them or scare them, and walked to Baraka. "Hey, Baraka, wake up. We need to get moving," after he woke up, we started waking up the rest and I made sure that everyone was there before we started walking again.

After a couple of hours of walking, the sun already rose and it was getting brighter and hotter. I personally didn't feel it, but the people were effected. Thankfully, the leaf umbrellas I made were making it more bearable for the elderly and children.

"Great Zack," I resisted the urge to groan as I heard

Baraka call me.

"What's wrong?" I asked him without stopping. "I apologize, but our water supplies are already wearing thin," he said making me raise an eyebrow at

how quickly this started happening.

Then I remembered that I told them to not bother with water and to just focus on food, which means they didn't pack that much water to begin with. Honestly, it wasn't really a problem. "That's not an issue. Bring your... water bladders? Or do you use jugs?" I asked as I knew bottles were not invented yet.

"It is both, actually," he said as a women from behind him brought two jugs.

I was surprised she can lift them, but figures they were empty.

Looking inside, turns out I was right. I turned to my water element and held each hand above each jug.

The water started falling from my hands and the jugs were soon filled to the brim.

The woman looked with wide eyes and took a glance into the water jugs. "I-I have never seen such clean water before!"

She practically shouted, Which was bad because now the looks of awe and admiration were back amongst the people. (They better not start praying, I sighed while shaking my head.)

The people of the past combined with desperation is a dangerous combination.

No wonder Gilgamesh developed the attitude he had with the way they acted

around him.
