章 3: Chapter 2: Luxurious Kanto

[Host: Sidney Oak—Would you rather?]

[Be much smarter when using only one type of Pokemon for your entire team of six on hand]

[Feed and heal your Pokemon better and faster]

[Never have to worry about your efforts being futile]

[Pokemon: Undefined—Would you rather?]

[Your future starter ability is far more powerful and has no drawback]

[Your future starter possesses two abilities and a hidden one, totaling three]

[Your future starter can deactivate his ability when necessary]

Sidney looked at the options in front of him with a pensive expression; he had just awoken and had yet to go to the lab. There were a few hours left, and the lab was right next door. Blue had yet to arrive to make a show in town. He'd be here in the afternoon.

In this world, trainers did not leave to embark on a journey as soon as they received their starter. Most of them stayed at home for a day, two, or longer. Sidney and Gary belonged to that group of trainers.

Their parents had scheduled a day off from work today. They owned their own businesses, were wealthy, and in control, so it was no problem.

Sidney was seated on his bed, still in his pajamas, and considered the two new prompts for some time. These were the last ones for the month.

Each month, he would be presented with a maximum of seven prompts, one for himself and six for any Pokemon he owned.

Responding to those prompts and making decisions would influence and alter descriptions of himself and his Pokemon.

Not only could he become stronger and more skilled, but so could his Pokemon.

His system was extremely simple.

It also ensured that the changes could not be investigated by people from this world or machines such as Pokedexes.

Because Sidney hadn't chosen his starter, the Pokemon's name in the Pokemon category was left undefined for the time being.

Before making a decision, Sidney gave it one last thought and weighed his options. He settled on option three for himself and option one for his future starter.

Although having more abilities sounded appealing, there was no guarantee of getting a good one or one that would not hinder, and some of them were utter garbage.

In this world, each Pokemon had only one ability, not two or three.

In such a case, quantity was far less important than quality.

It was easy to understand.

The reason he chose option three for himself was even clearer: the phrasing of the option was too broad.

He didn't think his system was the type to make mistakes, so if it meant what it said, Sidney would be missing out by not making this choice.

It turned out to be exactly as he had imagined a few seconds later. Sidney gave a cheeky grin as he examined the new lines under his previous description.

A major issue, even a problem in life: People did not want to waste their time working hard if the results were not visible. It wasn't always about being rewarded because that was just a byproduct of hard training, not the main goal.

Working hard was interesting when you could see progress, whether small or large; otherwise, it was not.

Anyone who claimed otherwise was lying.

Who would keep opening math books for years if they could never solve any problem they were given?

Who would go to the gym for several years without expecting to see some improvement?

Not even a muscle? Who would still go?

On that topic, it was also interesting to know exactly where and how quickly you were progressing. It was useful to know what to focus more on.

Because of the way the prompt was worded, Sidney didn't have to worry about the finer points and technicalities of his future hard work. Boring things like experts telling him he had poor lifting technique at the gym, so his hard work was diminished or something.

But the ability to track progress did come with the new change.

It was like teaching himself how and where to focus his hard work in order to achieve better personal results.

It didn't hurt to be able to work hard correctly.

[Host: Sidney Oak]

[Info: The grandson of the rich and world-famous pokemon professor Samuel Oak. Has two brothers and one sister, all interested in Pokemon. Sidney Oak has the ability to communicate with any Pokemon by means of telepathy in any situation, quickly and without words. He and Pokemon can understand each other's thoughts and emotions very quickly.]

[With hard work and effort, Sidney Oak can achieve anything he sets his mind to. He is always rewarded for his efforts after a period of rest. He does not make any tasks easier, but he does make noticeable progress. Sidney Oak can easily track his progress in any field from within his mind.]

Sidney felt the changes once again.

Naturally, anything really meant anything due to the prompt's ambiguous wording of the word efforts. It wasn't just about his own abilities; it also included strange things like his teaching and trainer abilities.

This time it wasn't just his mind, but also his whole being.

Not only would he be rewarded, but he would also be able to evaluate and quantify the results of his dedication and hard work.

He frowned a bit with anticipation as he suddenly realized that his system was a little scary. It was only the first month.

Such a big thing had already happened. He was a telepath with Pokemon too.

"What are you doing alone here in your pajamas? Come have breakfast quickly before you take a shower. Mom and Dad have taken time off work specifically to encourage you and Gary." Daisy entered the room without knocking and spoke.

"Are you here, too?" Sidney was surprised. "Have you also skipped work?"

"What work?" She mocked. "I don't have much work to do today with you kids choosing your starter. Grandpa has given me the entire day off."

Daisy lived in Pallet Town and worked alongside their grandfather, but she had her own home. She was too old to live with their parents and led her own life.

She was calm now, but when she was younger, she had a quick temper and enjoyed moving around a lot.

Daisy led the way down the stairs, and Sidney followed.

He looked through the memories; this family was wealthy and interesting. Even without Professor Oak, their parents, who were more interested in humans than Pokemon, were insanely rich. They owned several businesses, with one being a lawyer and the other a finance and investment expert.

They first met during a college vacation. The father of Sidney was Professor Oak's son.

He owned many buildings and plots of land in town as well as throughout Kanto, including some in Johto.

This was the type of family where the children didn't have to worry about failing.

Even if Professor Oak and Sidney's father were not in town, their mother would be the richest person.

She was Professor Oak's lawyer, but even without him, she was attending to billion-rich pokedollar clients.

Her own family wasn't poor. They were from another region.

"Good morning, son, are you still in your pajamas?" Sidney's father joked with him when he saw him. "Gary has already taken the lead. He's been ready for an hour." He was sitting on the couch and reading a newspaper.

Gary was fully dressed and being fed by their mother in the kitchen. Bacon was filling his plate when he noticed Sidney and said, "You aren't in a hurry. It feels like any other day to you."

Sidney said sarcastically, "You know, I don't stress, and it's not like we have several hours to get to the lab."

It was six a.m., but everyone in this house was awake, dressed, and ready to go.

They were like habitual soldiers, ready to set out on duty.

There was no military in the family, though.

Did this world have a military?

Some things were better left unasked.

This world had everything.

"You still haven't told me which starter you're going to pick; I agreed to travel with you already." Gary said after breakfast while sitting on a wheeled chair in a study room.

They were inside with their older sister, who had decided to offer them some advice.

Sidney had finished showering and was dressed for the big day.

He didn't reply to the annoyed Gary and just smirked at him.

Daisy chuckled, having written some names on a board on the wall that her two brothers were facing.

She said, "You two still have time to reconsider your choices if you have already made them. This is a list of all the starters currently available at the lab. Take a good look; I had to talk to Grandpa a lot before he handed it to me."

Sidney and Gary looked.

There were some interesting names on the board.

Sidney was enjoying this world more and more, though the type of starters available to Pallet Town kids was a little concerning.

Some types and names were scary for beginners.

Water: Squirtle, Poliwag, Krabby

Fire: Charmander, Numel, Ponyta

Grass: Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Seedot

Electric: Shinx, Pikachu, Voltorb

Fighting: Machop, Mankey, Makuhita

Steel: Shieldon, Beldum, Aron

Dragon: Dratini, Deino, Vibrava.

Gary was immediately disappointed with the electric types because two that were on the list last year were not on this one.

There were no plastic baby stage Pokemon like Elekid or Pichu. There was also no Geodude from Alola.

Sidney didn't understand why he was obsessed with those two.

He was more interested in Daisy, who explained why there were powerful dragon types.

They were difficult to tame and communicate with, and they had a domineering personality after only one evolution. In this world, badges were not magical. They were just items.

Sidney's favorite dragon types were Goomy's evolutionary line and Salamence, but when he saw Deino, his eyes lit up.
