Chloe's POV

The sinister smirk on Beta Lawrence's face grew colder, a glacial twist of his lips that seemed to radiate an arctic chill through the room. His eyes, a piercing steel gray, held a knowing look that glinted like the edge of a razor. 

It was as if he believed the smirk could send a chill down my spine, like it would do to anyone – but I wasn't just anyone.

I was Alpha Chloe Wilder, the best of my kind.

Instead of being shaken by his unexpected reaction, I squared my shoulders, feeling the fabric of my crisp white blouse tighten across my back. I met his gaze with an icy stare of my own, my golden eyes flashing with defiance. The scent of his arrogance filled my nostrils, stoking the fire of my irritation.

"Excuse me? What exactly do you mean by that?" I inquired, my voice low but menacing, each word precise and sharp as a dagger's edge.
