章 5: Chapter 5: Treasure Hunt

At this moment, Wei Yang excitedly licked his lips and pulled out a bundle of ropes he had prepared in advance from his bag, tying it firmly to a tree trunk.

He looked around, listened carefully for a while, and confirmed there was no threat nearby.

"Treasure hunting, begin!"

Wei Yang tugged hard on the rope to test its strength. Finding it secure, he lightly pushed off the cliff with his toes and swiftly descended towards the bottom. As he approached the suspicious spot, he gripped the rope tightly, halting his rapid descent and suspending himself in mid-air.

Exhaling lightly, Wei Yang turned his eyes to glance at the wooden thicket not far away and the dark hollow hidden behind it.

He had gotten close enough to clearly see the cave hidden behind the thicket. It was indeed well-concealed; from above the cliff, it would be extremely hard to spot.

Found it!

Wei Yang breathed a sigh of relief, a tinge of joy surfacing in his heart. This was a great opportunity. Unlike Xiao Yan, who had Yao Lao guiding him and didn't lack such opportunities, for Wei Yang, this was his chance to change his fate.

With a gentle tap of his toes and utilizing the swaying of the rope, Wei Yang slowly closed the distance to the cave.

Swoosh!

Just then, a brownish-yellow shadow, accompanied by a faint whistling sound, suddenly attacked Wei Yang.

A sense of caution flashed across Wei Yang's mind instantly. Squinting his eyes, he released his left hand rapidly from the rope to catch the yellow shadow accurately.

"Rock Snake."

Seeing the Rock Snake in his hand, which had ironically been caught by him at its weak point, Wei Yang let out a cold laugh, "I've been on guard against you for a long time. You came looking for death."

The Rock Snake was a type of snake-like magical beast living on rock walls, a first-level beast. Thanks to its wing-like elongated body, it could fly through the air like a falcon. Its stone-attribute mutation made its body as hard as rock, impervious to ordinary swords and blades. Coupled with its habitat on steep cliffs and its rock-like body color, it was troublesome to deal with.

However, it was different encountering Wei Yang. He had been mentally prepared and was a six-star Dou Fighter himself. To ordinary mercenaries, the Rock Snake would be pesky, but to Wei Yang, it was nothing of note.

Hissing~

The Rock Snake, squeezed at its vulnerable point, opened its mouth to reveal sharp, cold fangs, hissing with vicious eyes as its body wriggled furiously, attempting to entwine Wei Yang's arm.

"Hmph."

With a squeeze, Wei Yang broke the bones at the Rock Snake's vulnerable point and casually tossed it into the bottomless valley below. Subsequently, Wei Yang descended slowly along the rope to the cave's entrance.

Standing on a piece of rubble outside the cave, Wei Yang secured the rope on a nearby tree before carefully examining the spot.

The entrance was covered with rubble and gnarled wood, concealing it well. Wei Yang deliberately refrained from destroying them, understanding that this was someone's ancient tomb, and its owner likely wouldn't want frequent disturbances.

He gently pushed aside branches and carefully moved the rubble to reveal an entrance just wide enough for a person. Bending over, he ventured inside.

Within, the entrance was not spacious, accommodating two, maybe three people at most. In the darkness, a faint luminescence was visible, giving it a mysterious air. Surrounding the entrance were distinct human-made marks, akin to knife cuts. However, time had rendered these marks faint, making them hard to discern without close inspection.

Wei Yang took out a candle from his backpack and lit it. The faint glow illuminated the area, and with the candle in his left hand, he walked slowly inside.

Who knew if there were hidden dangers like Rock Snakes within? After all, even with familiarity of the story, there was a gap of about four or five years before the storyline, making unexpected occurrences plausible.

In the silent and dark passage, only Wei Yang's soft footsteps echoed, with a slight chill weaving into his heart. Amidst this silence, after roughly ten minutes of walking, he finally reached the end of the deep passage.

Ahead was a stone door emitting a faint yellow light.

Seeing this stone door, Wei Yang couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Alone, traversing such quiet and dark tomb paths was indeed nerve-wracking.

After gathering his thoughts, Wei Yang approached, reaching out to touch the stone door, feeling its weightiness, likely requiring the full strength of a Dou Fighter to destroy it entirely.

Wei Yang had no intention of destroying the stone door but focused instead on closely inspecting its vicinity. Through the candle's feeble light, he discerned faint carvings on the stone walls. Though time had blurred these engravings, he could still make out some figures on them.

"Found it."

Beside the stone door, Wei Yang felt a small protrusion at its base, gently pressing it with his finger. A creaking sound rose gradually within the cave. The stone door slowly began to move upward. As the door ascended, soft light emanated from within, dispelling all nearby darkness. Simultaneously, a faint exotic fragrance wafted out.

With a slight smile, Wei Yang stepped slowly inside.

Upon entering, his view expanded dramatically. The inside was a massive stone chamber, rather simple and spacious. The surrounding walls were embedded with moonstones for illumination.

In the center of the stone chamber stood a chair, on which sat a skeleton, its skull having toppled onto its eerily white thigh bones. This scene, amidst the quiet atmosphere, appeared somewhat eerie and terrifying.

In front of the chair was a sizeable wideset bluestone platform with three locked stone boxes neatly placed atop it. In the three corners of the chamber were piles of gold coins and various jewels and treasures, like small mountains.

A rough estimation suggested the gold coins alone amounted to tens of thousands. Adding in the jewels and treasures, their total value could exceed millions of gold coins.

"Wow, this is a windfall."

Seeing the gold and treasures, Wei Yang's eyes lit up with excitement. After gazing at them for a long while, he finally shifted his attention away, looking toward another spot.

In the final corner was a small planter made of earth. In it, various spiritual herbs were planted like ordinary plants, their fragrance wafting throughout the stone chamber.
