Valitis shot Coraline a withering glance, his eyes blazing with a warning: stay back. In this moment, he wanted no one near him... except Belladonna.

But, the girl rose from the bed and approached him, she wisely halted, sensing the danger emanating from him. From a safe distance, she asked,

"Are you done—"

Valitis's voice cut off abruptly, replaced by a growl: "Leave!"

Coraline's eyes widened, startled by the unfamiliar tone. Maybe he's having a bad thought, she reasoned, and took a step closer, despite the risk.

"My Lord..." Her outstretched hands hesitated, then landed on his shoulder. Suddenly, a chill coursed through her veins as she met his gaze. His head was slightly turned, green eyes. The warmth she was accustomed to had vanished, replaced by a menacing stare that sent shivers down her spine.
