章 58: The Best Actors of the Warring States

"What are you waiting for? Hurry and change the tea for our guests!" Gild broke into a cold sweat when he saw that Jun hadn't fallen into the trap he had set, so he decided to change his tactics.

"Forget it! That's too much trouble! My friend here, who you can call Trevor, and I are here to gamble, not to enjoy tea and cake." Jun waved his hand dismissively, then casually reached into his jacket and pulled out a silver box of chocolates.

"That's right, we're here to play and bet all our money!" Trevor's eyes sparkled as he waved his wallet in front of everyone.

To Jun, it was obvious that Trevor didn't have more than a hundred gold coins. If they were gambling thousands in this place, it would be shameful for him to bring the small savings he had managed to scrape together from betting with his brother.

Jun nudged Trevor lightly and murmured, "Don't worry, I'll bet my money first, and when we lose it, we'll use yours. Remember, it's the two of us against these rich kids who look like they've never lost before."

Trevor looked at Jun, about to tell him he didn't need his money to win, but stopped when he saw the unusually calm expression on Jun's face, devoid of any trace of acting.

He knew his performance had been over the top, and he was having a bit of fun with it, but he'd enjoy himself more if they could mess with these arrogant people who had tried to drug him.

Gild frowned as he watched the approach of that blood-eyed fool, then asked after everyone had sat down, "Shall we start with a thousand coins? Or... should we raise the stakes a bit?"

"A thousand coins?" Trevor exclaimed in surprise. He looked at the few coins he had left after attempting towoo a woman and asked, "Do you guys normally bet that much?"

"A thousand coins? I don't have time to play with such small amounts. As I said before, I'll cover your part, so let's start with a thousand gold coins; no limit on increases." Jun didn't have that many gold coins, but he knew how to pretend he had plenty of money.

Gild, who had been all smiles, had a brief heart attack and, after coming back to life, murmured in an unnatural tone, "A thousand gold coins is already a hefty sum. We were talking about a lower denomination, not directly gold."

'I expected this. It was impossible for people from this city to bring out such large amounts of money. Even though this is a commercial city, it's unlikely for anyone to have that much cash.' Jun then placed one hundred gold coins on the table.

"Then let's start with a hundred coins."

Gild frowned at this. He knew very well that Jun couldn't have more than a thousand gold coins, even if he was the prestigious son of a noble family. If the game started at a hundred coins and he had to cover the cost of what they were eating as well, he could lose his entire fortune in minutes if luck wasn't on his side.

Initially, the currency they were supposed to use was silver, but since Jun had raised the stakes so high, Gild didn't want to end up in a miserable state. So, he decided not to back down from his decision to continue with this game.

"Well, you're truly a man of your word, very honest about how you feel. The dice game happens to be one of my favorites—a game of luck! Both sides can see the outcome of the game when they roll their dice, making it one of the fairest games." Gild laughed loudly as he poured himself another drink.

"Enough with the nonsense; I don't like men trying to kiss up to me! How are we playing this game? Does the lowest value win, or does the highest value win? Or are we guessing the values, and the one who's closest to their number wins? I don't think you know much about math, so I'll stick to these three options." Jun looked like he couldn't wait any longer. If an observant person were watching, they would immediately think he was a complete fool.

"About the coins," one of Gild's friends spoke in a low tone, but Jun immediately interrupted him.

"You want to count them? Then take them; I never steal!" Trevor grabbed the woolen bag he had placed on the table and hurled it forcefully at Gild's friend's face.

Boom!

Gild's friend flew like a comet toward the tables at the back, his body flipping several times in the air before crashing to the ground. Gild's eyes widened as he watched his friend soar through the air, and after an awkward silence, he said, "I think you used a bit more force than necessary."

"Is that so? Sorry, I usually use that kind of force to kill the mosquitoes in my room at night. I never thought your friend would be so light; lazy people tend to have fragile bodies, so I hope he's okay." Trevor acted as if he wasn't aware of the strength he had used, so he offered a dry apology.

"Well, I did warn you." Jun was also surprised but said nothing.

They were waiting for them to strike; he wanted to play a game of endurance.
