My eyes widened slightly in shock.

I didn't know Max would take his mom’s words to heart, but I guessed it was understandable since everyone would notice something was wrong with our mateship if we didn't mark each other.

Looking into his eyes, I swore I saw a hint of request flashing through those beautiful dark eyes of his, and I was almost tempted to say ‘Yes’ and just agree with him marking me.

Suddenly, I felt Iris stirring awake in my mind, and I hurriedly looked away from his hypnotic gaze.

“Iris! How are you feeling?” I asked her, hoping she was feeling alright too and that the event didn't affect her health or anything else.

“Ari…” her soft yet strong voice sounded in my head. “I’m fine.”

I breathed in relief.

It was good the event didn't cause any irreplaceable damage to her.
