章 10: Chapter 10

"TERESAAAAA!"

Teresa didn't turn around and continued walking angrily. She stormed out of the school building.

"Teresa, wait!" Teresa's hand was grabbed by someone, making her stop in her tracks. She turned to see who it was.

Teresa saw Gabriel, the guy approaching her, holding a paper bag that belonged to her. Teresa took the paper bag and then turned around, continuing to walk away.

"Teresa, where are you going?" Gabriel asked.

"Home," Teresa replied.

"TERESAAAAA!" Teresa saw Yova running toward her and Gabriel. Yova was visibly worried about Teresa, who was soaking wet.

"Are you okay?" Yova asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Teresa replied. "Just wet."

"Do you have a change of clothes?" Gabriel asked Yova.

Yova shook her head; she hadn't brought a change of clothes since Teresa was supposed to bring them.

"Oh yeah, I forgot. I'll bring them tomorrow," Teresa said.

"It's fine, don't worry about it. But what are we going to do now?"

"Hold on, I'll go buy something," Gabriel said, running off after that.

"GABRIEEEEL!" Teresa shouted, feeling guilty for troubling her friend.

*******

Gabriel walked back into the building, noticing a crowd outside the girls' restroom. At first, he didn't pay any attention and was about to head to his classroom, but then he overheard two people mentioning Teresa's name.

"Teresa?" Gabriel immediately turned around and ran toward the restroom. He pushed through the crowd and opened the restroom door, but inside were just Dona and her friends. Gabriel's eyes fell on a paper bag lying on the wet floor.

"Gabriel," Dona said as she approached him. "Look at that new girl, she's crazy," Dona whined to Gabriel.

Gabriel shrugged off Dona's hand that had touched him. He picked up the paper bag and looked inside. "This jacket..."

"Gabriel, can you help me? Take me to the nurse's office," Dona whined again, trying to get Gabriel's attention. She even pretended to faint, but Gabriel didn't care and just walked out, leaving Dona inside.

"Teresa!" Gabriel started looking for Teresa. He saw someone running out of the building, completely soaked.

"TERESAAAAA!" Gabriel chased after her and stopped her.

*******

Gabriel caught up with Teresa and Yova, who were near a restroom not far from the classroom. He handed the uniform to Teresa.

"Thank you."

Teresa took the uniform and went into the restroom to change. When she came out, she found Gabriel still waiting for her outside. She looked at him and smiled.

"I'll pay you back for the uniform," Teresa said to Gabriel.

"No need, it's yours," Gabriel replied. "If they bother you again, call me."

"I can handle it myself, but thank you anyway."

The bell rang, and Teresa parted ways with Gabriel, walking with Yova toward their classroom.

"I think Gabriel likes you," Yova said.

"That's impossible."

"You didn't see how worried he was about you earlier. No guy would act like that unless he liked you."

"Come on, he's just my friend," Teresa replied.

The hallways were starting to empty as all the students had gone to their respective classes. Teresa, who had been in a bad mood that morning, suddenly felt better when she saw Kenzo walking past her and Yova.

"Kenzo!" Teresa called out.

As usual, the aloof guy ignored her and kept walking past her. Teresa quickly walked ahead and blocked his path to make him stop.

"Here's your jacket," Teresa said, holding out the paper bag to Kenzo.

Kenzo looked at her blankly and then at the wet paper bag.

"Oh, it's just the bag that's wet. Your jacket is fine," Teresa said, noticing Kenzo's attention on the paper bag.

"I threw that away; I didn't lend it to you," Kenzo replied, walking past Teresa.

"Huh?"

Yova came up to Teresa, covering her mouth in shock. "Wow, you got rejected."

"Wait, how did you even get that jacket?" Yova asked.

Teresa felt disappointed; her mood soured again. So, Kenzo had thrown the jacket away because he didn't want it anymore, not to keep her warm.

"Let's go inside before the teacher arrives," Teresa said, and they both went into the classroom.

It had become a habit for Teresa to watch Kenzo in class. The guy had a magnetic pull that made Teresa like him.

"Aaaaah, my head," Teresa muttered, lowering her head onto the desk to stop thinking about Kenzo. The guy was consuming her thoughts entirely.

"Good morning, everyone," a beautiful teacher walked in and greeted all the students in the classroom.

"Kenzo and Teresa, please step out of the classroom."

Teresa lifted her head upon hearing that. She was confused about why the teacher was asking her to leave.

"Me, Ma'am? Why are you kicking me out?" Teresa asked innocently.

The entire class burst into laughter at Teresa's question, including Yova.

"Alright, alright, she's new here," the teacher said. "You're one of the Olympiad students, so go to the Olympiad room now," the teacher explained to Teresa.

Teresa noticed that Kenzo had already left. She then ran to catch up to him and walked beside him.

"Did you really throw that jacket away?" Teresa asked.

"Hm."

That small, expressionless grunt was enough to answer her question. Teresa tried to make more conversation, but suddenly, Kenzo's index finger landed on her lips.

"Be quiet. I don't like noisy people," Kenzo said, glaring at her.

Teresa fell silent, feeling Kenzo's touch on her face. Even though his intention was to quiet her, Teresa was still happy.

Kenzo walked away, leaving Teresa, and entered the Olympiad room. Inside, a few people, including Gabriel, were already there. Teresa saw Gabriel and still felt a bit awkward around him. Gabriel waved at her, and Teresa returned it with a smile.

"Is everyone here?" the teacher in charge asked.

"Today is the announcement of your trial test results. We will divide you into study groups based on your strengths. But first, I'll announce the rankings from this first trial."

"First place, Teresa Daisy Ananta"

Teresa was shocked to hear her name called by the teacher. She didn't expect to be ranked first.

"I didn't even study," she muttered in surprise.

"Second place, Kenzo Marvino," the teacher continued, and so on.

Teresa had the highest score in mathematics, while Kenzo excelled in physics. They were placed in different groups because of their different strengths.

"Teresa, Gabriel, Amel, and Joan, you'll be in the math group with Mrs. Ajeng as your mentor."

They gathered in their respective groups and were required to attend daily study sessions at the school.

"Okay, sir."

They were also required to create a study schedule that suited each group member's availability.

"I'm available anytime," said Amel.

"How about we form a study group outside of school as well? It would be more enjoyable to study together. I'm not good at studying alone. What do you think, Gabriel?"

"I'm fine with that."

Teresa nodded and agreed to go along with their plan.

"Teresa, come with me for a moment," Mr. Dayu called her out of the room and led her to the teacher's office.

"This is for you to help with your studies. It's a facility provided by the school, and I hope you can assist your classmates since you're currently the top student," Mr. Dayu said, handing Teresa a laptop and an iPad.

"Thank you, sir," Teresa said as she left and returned to the Olympiad room to study with her group.

******

"Wow, new stuff, huh?" Yova teased as Teresa brought the laptop and iPad into the classroom.

Teresa just smiled and put the items into her bag, getting ready to go home.

"Reno," Teresa called to Reno, who had just stepped out of the classroom.

"What's up?" he asked.

"Let's go home together. You're taking the bus, right?"

"Yeah. By the way, don't worry about what happened earlier."

"Oh, about the yo—" Reno suddenly covered Teresa's mouth as Yova walked out of the classroom.

Yova looked at them both with a strange expression, especially since Reno was covering Teresa's mouth while also holding her close.

"What are you two doing?" Yova asked.

"Nothing," Reno said, pulling Teresa away and running.

They finally stopped outside the school building, with Teresa panting heavily from being forced to run by Reno.

"What was that for? You made me run!"

"Sorry, sorry," Reno said, looking embarrassed.

Teresa smiled, realizing something was off with Reno. She looked at him with an intimidating grin.

"What? No, I don't like Yova," Reno stammered.

"I didn't say anything."

Reno became even more flustered and then ran away, leaving Teresa behind. "RENO! Ugh, he ditched me!"

Teresa walked slowly since she was too tired to run, heading toward the front of the school.

*Beep beep!*

Teresa saw Gabriel's car driving slowly beside her. She knew he was offering her a ride home.

"No thanks, I'll take the bus," Teresa told Gabriel.

Teresa ran ahead to the bus stop to wait for the angkot. While she was waiting, she saw Kenzo leaving the school on his motorcycle, looking incredibly cool. She was so mesmerized that she didn't notice the angkot she intended to take had already passed her by.

When she realized, she shouted, "Hah, my angkot!" and ran after it.

Huhhh huhhhhhh

She couldn't catch up and was left behind. That was the last angkot, and no more would come toward her home. Reluctantly, she had to walk again.

Beep!

Teresa heard a horn.

"GET IN!"
