章 24: Chapter 40: Return to The boys

"Where's Cyrus?" Izumi Shinichi looked around but couldn't spot Cyrus.

At that moment, Cyrus was trailing behind Gotou, observing as Gotou continued his rampage.

"Humans are truly fascinating. Watching your companions fall one by one, don't you feel any anger?" Gotou, on the rooftop of a skyscraper, threw the head of the last special police officer off the edge. After finishing this, he turned to face Cyrus.

"They're just pests that destroy the environment. Once they're all gone, I can create a new world, a new order."

Cyrus responded calmly.

"You're impressive." Gotou was pleased with Cyrus's ambition. Only someone like him deserved to survive in Gotou's presence.

"Then let's change the world together."

Gotou spread his arms and stood at the very edge of the rooftop, gazing out over Tokyo.

Until Cyrus drove his hand through Gotou's heart.

"Who are you?!!!" Gotou roared in rage at the sudden attack. He sliced off Cyrus's hand with lightning speed. "Do you think destroying my heart will kill me? Foolish."

"Explode!"

Cyrus stepped back and whispered.

Suddenly, the arm that had pierced Gotou's heart erupted in an explosion, sending countless sharp blades tearing through his body from the inside out.

"Today, I will show you what true invincibility means." Gotou declared as he reached into his chest to pull out the blades, crushing them with his hand. However, he didn't notice that some reflective particles were mixed in with the fragments, and his other hand had turned into a liquid-like substance, sliding into his chest to replace his heart.

Just as he was about to succeed,

A powerful wave of weakness overtook him. Gotou's skin rapidly wrinkled, his hair turned white, and his eye sockets hollowed out, as if all his vitality had been drained. He felt every tissue in his body being destroyed in an irreversible manner.

"Wh… What is this?" Gotou asked as he approached death.

"Hydrogen cyanide."

"No wonder…" Gotou's body fell from the sky and landed in a pool of blood.

"It's over." Cyrus stood where Gotou had been and spoke indifferently.

A gentle breeze swept by, and his body dissolved into countless light particles, as if he had never been there.

At the moment of Gotou's death, Migi exclaimed in terror, "Gotou is dead. I can no longer sense his brainwaves."

At the same time, Izumi Shinichi's phone rang.

Izumi Shinichi took out his phone and saw a message from Cyrus.

"Shinichi, we part ways here. Farewell until we meet again."

...

In a brightly lit room, countless light particles emerged, and as they coalesced, Cyrus's body slowly materialized.

"Returning and not being able to heal directly from injuries. Damn it! Trashy panel!" Cyrus complained as he looked at his handless right arm.

To be honest, that scene had been extremely perilous. If he had made one wrong move, he wouldn't have survived.

Fortunately, he won in the end. As long as the goal was achieved, Cyrus didn't care about the methods used. Only a single-minded person would choose to fight to the death without using external aid. Unless one had the protagonist's halo, such people generally met a tragic end.

"Is it despicable? Is a sneak attack shameful?" Cyrus's lips curled into a smile.

"Looks like I won't be able to go to work for half a month."

Cyrus went to his desk and used his phone to request time off from his boss, Auer.

Auer agreed readily, but with the condition that Cyrus would forfeit half a month's salary.

Since the time flow between the two worlds was 150:1, Cyrus's journey through the fantasy world had only taken one day.

To avoid drawing suspicion, Cyrus had deliberately chosen a coat with pockets. He put his hands into his pockets so no one could see that he was missing a hand.

On his way to Walmart, Cyrus unexpectedly saw a couple in a passionate kiss, completely oblivious to their surroundings.

As the saying goes, flaunting affection often leads to trouble.

Just as Cyrus was about to quicken his pace to pass by them, a chill ran over his skin. He instinctively turned to prepare for a fight but was met by a strong gust of wind and droplets of liquid splashing onto his face.

Cyrus wondered where the liquid was coming from, as there was no standing water by the roadside, until he smelled the familiar scent of blood.

It was human blood.

What happened next perfectly matched a scene from his memory.

A woman was struck and crushed by the front of A-Train. Blood mist filled the air, and as the train came to a stop, a heap of mangled flesh and broken bones fell to the ground with a loud thud.

"I can't stop! I can't stop!"

The train's engine, now wearing its goggles again, hurriedly left.

Only Huey remained, clutching his girlfriend's severed hand, still in shock.

"How tragic." Cyrus wiped the blood from his face and shook his head. If the couple hadn't been so close while kissing, he might have recognized Huey, but alas, everything was fate's arrangement.

Actually, he was curious about how much fantasy value saving Huey's girlfriend would have given him.

It seemed there would be no chance now.

He then went to Walmart to buy some daily necessities, many of which featured superheroes, including a drink with A-Train's logo.

At checkout,

The cashier placed an advertisement in his bag.

"What's this?"

"It's a flyer for a superhero selection event. It's very popular right now. Many people have entered. I even tried, but didn't pass the interview," the cashier explained as she bagged his items.

"We're running a joint promotion with Vought. Superhero products are 10% off, plus you get a flyer."

"I see."

Cyrus took the bag and left the store.

In this world, Vought was indeed everywhere.

He took out the flyer from his bag and examined the event details. The deadline for the event was two weeks away. If all went as planned, Starlight should make it into the superhero team.

"To obtain fantasy value, you must change the plot or kill major characters from the original work." To be honest, Cyrus had developed an urge to kill Huey. Compared to superheroes, Huey, as an ordinary person, was clearly an easy target.

However, after some consideration, Cyrus decided to let it go.

If Huey died, who knows how the plot would change. Without the strength to control the situation, such actions would be extremely foolish. Cyrus wasn't willing to take such risks unless he had the strength to match that of Vought's forces.
