章 11: Tryouts (3)

Alexis's team kicked off the match. Unfortunately, they lost the ball as soon as Alexis made the kick from the halfway line. Dennis (striker) lost the ball as soon as it landed on his foot. Instead of him to pass to a teammate, he was already trying to take on a player.

Alfred (opposing striker) immediately passed to his goalkeeper as soon as he got the ball. The goalkeeper moved the ball around a bit, inviting pressure from Alexis's team. Alexis had already seen through the rouse and maintained his position in the half way line. Whenever goalkeepers did this then they were just likely to go long.

Dennisbon the other hand ran towards the goalkeeper and could only rub his nose in embarrassment when the goalkeeper kicked the ball between his legs then sent the ball long towards a full back making a run to the left.

After an initial struggle, the full back managed to get the ball under control. Immediately, he found himself face to face to one of the center backs from Alexis's team. The full back kicked the ball past the center back and tried to run past him but the center back used his body to block the full back from advancing. The full back could only watch as the ball went out of bounds.

"Nice one!" Alexis said to the defender who blocked the full back.

The fullback in Alexis's team took a quick throwing and passed it to the center back. The ball moved around at the back before a defensive midfielder played a long ball through to Dennis who was making a run at the right flank.

Dennis pursued the ball and controlled it easily with a beautiful first touch. He drove the ball forward, attracting the attention of the defenders. Alexis was free in the middle and waved his hands to try and alert Dennis to his position. Dennis raised his head up and saw Alexis free. Instead of passing however, he took on the defender in front of him.

Alexis was about to get angry that Dennis didn't pass the ball but then he saw Dennis dance his way through an encirclement of center backs. He emerged outside the pressure and set himself up for a one on one with the keeper. When the keeper thought he would take the shot, he squared the ball to Alexis who tapped the ball into the post from point blank.

The coach looked a Dennis and nodded his head before writing something on a jotter that he kept close to him.

The rest of the match passed like that. As soon as Dennis got the ball, he would go on a dribbling spree and would set Alexis up for an easy tap in. Like that, Alexis ended up scoring all three goals in a 3-1 win.

The other team managed to pull a goal back, and they probably would've had more but their striker missed easy chances, making things a lot difficult for them.

"Alright. So I'd like to say that I'm pleased with what I've seen so far, but I'm not". The coach said. Everyone that played that match had gathered around the coach. "You lot we're even shittier than what I had expected but unfortunately I still have to pick some of you to play football for me".

"You, you, you and you". The coach pointed at four players. "Fuck off!" The coach said. "The rest of you, congratulations you're in the school team".

Alexis smiled when he heard what the coach said. Everyone that was selected met with the coach and wrote their names, along with the position that they played and some other basic personal information like their age, their phones numbers and some other things.

Even though the coach said that they needed twenty players to join the school team, only thirteen managed to make the cut; five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards.

Alexis went back home immediately and took of his clothes. He turned on the water in his toilet and prepared himself for a long bath. While he settled in for an ice bath, he heard the notification of the system.

Alexis braced himself to feel the pain that he had felt previously but it didn't come. Instead, all he felt was a tickling sensation in his muscles. After a few minutes, the feeling subsided.

When he got out of the shower, he saw that he had a notification on his phone. He had been added to a message group for the school team. The coach just posted a message saying that there was going to be training the next day before school started.

Alexis was excited after seeing the notification. He had already seen how capable the new members on the team were but he wanted to see how good the six guaranteed players were to get a sure spot on the team.

The next morning, he woke up very early and set out to school. When he walked outside of the compound his mom's apartment was located in, he saw Trey walking a few paces in front of him.

"Fuck me". Alexis muttered under his breath. He turned around and was about to sneak back into the compound when Trey suddenly turned around, spotted him and called out to him.

"Alexis... Heyy". Trey shouted. "You must be going for the training too... Let's walk together".

"This is the work of the devil". Alexis muttered under his breath. Faced with no other option, he turned around and walked towards Trey.
