Inside the carriage, Li Jin and I were staring at each other. I know he understands my feelings at this moment and chooses to stay as my friend.

"Pei Qin wants to come as well, but the empress told him that it will be wrong for us, the three husbands, to leave the palace. We will only face two things: death or survival," Li Jin says. My jaw clenched. My palm turned to fists.

"I never knew they would target our family right away. I guess Shi Rong's silence in court for the last five weeks is truly strange because this is his plan," I mumbled.

Li Jin grabbed something inside his sleeve. It's a bottle of wine. He opened it and poured on the cups that we have inside this carriage.

"You have to calm yourself and focus on this journey. The empress places her bet on us. We can't lose that chance. You know what will happen to Uncle if we make a mistake," Li Jin says.
