章 16: Examination Begins

lDamon's face twitched at Mo Fan's comment. How could this protagonist be so confident? Reading about him on the phone was one thing, but seeing him in person was baffling.

Mu Ningxue, from a family that owns Bo City, was from a small branch of the Mu Clan, one of the most powerful in China. Even though her branch was minor, the Mu Clan was still a major force with forbidden mages and an army of super mages. The entire clan was focused on Mu Ningxue's innate talent. Mo Fan, a broke primary mage, had no right to make such bold statements.

Mu Ningxue's brief and unremarkable speech was the highlight for many. Damon couldn't understand why the guys were so excited. Getting into Imperial Magic University was nearly impossible for a small city like Bo City. The fact that Mu Ningxue was recruited without even attending Magic High spoke volumes about her talent.

'But it's her clan that made it possible.' Imperial University accepts the best talents, but special exceptions and resources like those given to Mu Ningxue were due to her family's influence.

If entering Imperial University were as simple as having talent, Damon would have pursued it himself.

As Damon watched, another drama around Mo Fan unfolded.

"Brother Fan, work hard over the next two years and get into Imperial. Once you're in, not even the Mu Family will mess with you," Zhang Xiaohou chuckled.

Before Zhang Xiaohou could finish, Zhao Kunsan interjected.

"Don't kid yourself. After today, your Brother Fan will be expelled. Imperial Magic University? What a joke!" Zhao Kunsan sneered.

"Zhao Kunsan, when did my Brother Fan ever offend you? Why do you have to bark like a dog every time we speak?" Zhang Xiaohou snapped, fed up with Zhao Kunsan's attitude.

Zhang Xiaohou, a top student and skilled mage, couldn't understand why Zhao Kunsan, who controlled only six stars, was so confident.

"He didn't offend me; I just can't stand this shameless loser. I don't get how someone like him thought he could befriend Mu Ningxue. Thanks to him, our Zhao Family lost their land!" Zhao Kunsan spat, pointing at Mo Fan.

Zhao Kunsan's family had long served the Mu Family, managing their vast estate. They harbored a grudge against Mo Fan for provoking the Old Master, which led to their family's downfall.

"Mo Fan, don't you have any sense? Some people are out of your reach. Getting involved with them only brings trouble. You think you're in a drama where a peasant marries a princess? Get real!" Zhao Kunsan continued, his disdain clear.

With Mu Ningxue's appearance, Zhao Kunsan couldn't contain his anger any longer. Mo Fan's reckless actions had affected many, and everyone was paying the price.

Mo Fan's elopement with Mu Ningxue during childhood had harsh repercussions for those around him, making people treat him with disdain.

Mo Fan glanced at Zhao Kunsan, feeling a twinge of guilt. Zhao's harsh words contained some truth. Reality was harsher than he imagined. While many believed hard work and good grades led to success, those with wealth and connections often skipped the line, leaving the diligent to struggle.

But instead of admiring Zhao Kunsan's pragmatic view, Mo Fan found it laughable.

"Zhao Kunsan, you have the perfect mindset for being a lapdog. That's something I could never achieve. I truly admire you!" Mo Fan retorted with a smirk.

"If I'm a dog, then I'm a posh one, living comfortably, eating well, and dressed nicely. You, on the other hand, are nothing but a stray, scrounging through the trash. You ruined your family's last piece of land just to attend Magic High, only to get kicked out. I'd love to ask your father, Mo Jiaxing, if he regrets having such a loser for a son," Zhao Kunsan shot back, venom dripping from his words.

Mo Fan's words hit a nerve, but Zhao Kunsan wasn't one to back down. He doubled down, attacking Mo Fan where it hurt most.

Damon watched silently, his eyes shifting to Mu Bai at the front of the line. Clearly, Mu Bai orchestrated this to humiliate Mo Fan.

'Sigh, what a drama.' Damon sighed at the unnecessary spectacle. He wondered why Mo Fan didn't just end the drama by revealing his talent. A little show of skill would have made the drama worthwhile, but no these protagonists enjoys getting humiliated.

Finally, the announcement came: "The Annual Examination will now officially begin!"

All thirty classes began their tests simultaneously. Each student would place their hand on the Star Appraisal Stone, watched closely by everyone. They would enter a meditative state, and the Star Appraisal Stone would emit radiance corresponding to their stardust. The brightness determined their cultivation level.

Each student had three attempts, with their final score based on the brightest radiance achieved. The more focused the student, the more accurately the Star Appraisal Stone reflected their stardust's power.

The first examinee, randomly selected, was the shy and timid He Yu. She approached the Star Appraisal Stone, looking on the verge of tears.

"You may begin," the bald examiner instructed.

"Good luck, He Yu! We all believe in you," encouraged her teacher, Xue Musheng.

"Don't stress, He Yu. If things don't go well, I'll take care of you," added Jian Hua, the eccentric dorm head.

He Yu closed her eyes and, with a mix of nerves and determination, placed her small hands on the massive Star Appraisal Stone. The room fell silent as all eyes focused on her, the tension almost palpable.

Despite her anxiety, He Yu maintained her composure. The Star Appraisal Stone began to glow faintly, like dawn's first light. As He Yu's concentration deepened, the radiance grew, illuminating the surroundings.

"A!"

"A!"

"A!"

The three examiners announced the result in unison.

"Classmate, it's done. Your final result is an A," the bald examiner said, flatly but clearly.

He Yu opened her eyes, disbelief on her face. "Re… really? I got an A?"

Her joyful outburst shocked her classmates.

"What the hell? An A?! That's Elite Class level!"

"I'm speechless. She was about to cry, and now she gets an A?"

"Magic bitch—what a classic case of pretending to be hopeless. I'm not falling for that again."

Even Mo Fan's dorm head, Jian Hua, was dumbfounded.

"Raise her, my ass. If I manage to get a B, I'll count myself lucky. Here I was, worrying about someone who just scored an A."
