"These guys mean trouble," Kazuki muttered, quietly pulling Karin behind him.
The three men stopped five meters from Kazuki, maintaining enough distance to avoid immediate hostility.
"I am Shimura Danzo, the leader of Konoha's Root. Kazuki of the Gekko Clan, from today onwards, you will join Root and follow my commands." Danzo lifted his chin arrogantly, his expression tinged with disdain.
Despite Kazuki's reputation for remarkable talent, Danzo didn't seem to take him seriously.
But, Kazuki didn't take Danzo seriously either.
"Where does this nonsense come from? Get out of the way!"
Kazuki cursed and pulled Karin along, intending to leave.
Danzo hadn't expected such blatant disregard. His face darkened, and Fū Yamanaka immediately stepped forward.
"Kazuki of the Gekko Clan! Root is a special unit affiliated with Konoha, on the same level as the Anbu. Lord Danzo is Root's founder! Being personally invited is an honor—show your gratitude!"
Kazuki continued walking, ignoring the words entirely.
"Karin, do you hear a dog barking?" Kazuki asked with a sly grin.
"A dog?" Karin paused, listening for a moment before it dawned on her that Kazuki was teasing Fū Yamanaka. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Oh… you meant him."
Furious, Fū Yamanaka lunged at Kazuki.
"Die!"
In an instant, Fū showed jounin-level speed, reaching Kazuki's side and aiming for his head with a gloved hand.
But flames erupted from Kazuki's body, forcing Fū back.
Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu
Fū screamed in pain as the flames burned his clothes, searing his skin.
"Ah! Lord Danzo!"
Danzo frowned, forming hand seals before releasing a wind technique to extinguish the flames, saving Fū.
"Thank you, Lord Danzo!"
"Hmph. Stand aside, fool."
"Yes, sir."
Fū retreated, embarrassed but compliant. He was more of a sensor-type ninja, not suited for direct combat.
Danzo turned his attention back to Kazuki, speaking calmly. "Your talent is impressive, nearly on par with the Fourth Hokage."
"Cut the crap. I'm not in the mood to hear your drivel," Kazuki replied coldly. He didn't hide his disdain for Danzo.
Had Danzo not still been of some use, Kazuki would've killed him long ago.
"I understand youth can be brash, but respect for power and authority is something you must learn. Believe me, I can ensure you never become a chunin for the rest of your life!"
"Finished talking? Then move." Kazuki walked past Danzo with Karin, not giving him any more time.
Danzo seethed inwardly. He had been patient long enough. It was time to act.
Raising his left arm, Danzo summoned dozens of masked Root members, surrounding Kazuki and Karin.
"Kazuki, if you refuse to join Root, so be it. But Karin stays with me!"
