章 39: Not Answering That  

Now that the immediate threat had disappeared, I started walking across the football field behind the high school.

I remembered looking at this from the other side of the compound walls, dreaming about the things I had seen. The people always looked so happy, even when their teams were losing. They were so loud and carefree.

I was envious.

I told the Prophet about it one day, and that night, after he beat me, he conducted a sermon about what to do when you were jealous of people who didn't follow God.

I don't remember everything he had said, but what did enter my head was that those who envy those who don't follow God should burn in hell with the others when the resurrection came.

But that didn't mean I stopped watching.

Lost in my thoughts, my males silent as they followed behind me, their blades or guns in their hands, I reached the golden doors of the Fundamentalist Church of the Divine Light.
