章 56: Chapter 57: The Demon and the Follower

In the depths of the dimension, elsewhere.

In the darkness, a pair of crimson eyes suddenly opened wide.

"Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!"

As Belial replayed the terrifying power displayed by that giant of light in his mind, he couldn't help but shudder.

The form that Shen You just destroyed was only one of his avatars. His true body was hidden deep within his dimension.

For demons like him, who often wander across different dimensions, the ones they send out are usually avatars. First, because it's difficult for their true body to travel to other dimensions, and second, for safety.

After all, some dimensions can be pretty dangerous, and one wrong move can attract the attention of some powerful wizards or sorcerers. Those demons who recklessly roam with their true body are either genuinely strong and confident, or they're complete idiots looking to get themselves killed.

Today highlighted the importance of having an avatar.

The power of the giant of light had far exceeded his expectations. Even in his own dimension, the giant could exert such force, and worse yet, it could track him without any hindrance in his own domain.

Belial still couldn't figure out how that was possible.

Did he have X-ray vision?

In fact, the entire existence of that giant puzzled him.

It wasn't like any other normal creature he'd encountered in any dimension. He couldn't even sense any concept of flesh and blood from the giant.

Strangely enough, from his demonic perspective, the giant felt more like a walking sun—an entity that instinctively made him want to flee, something he naturally rejected as a creature of darkness.

So, his avatar's demise was rather tragic.

And although it was just an avatar, the pain it endured was still transmitted back to his true body. Now, every time he closed his eyes, he could still see that silver fist, packed with divine power, breaking the sound barrier and slamming down on him with ten tons of force...

Belial shook his head, forcing the image out of his mind.

No, he was a demon, a being meant to spread fear and despair.

How could he be afraid?

Impossible. A demon never fears!

Still, the thought of rushing out in his true form to confront that Ultraman...

Belial hesitated for a moment and ultimately decided to let it go.

He could, but there was no need.

A smart demon always chooses the wisest solution to a problem, not recklessly charging in like a fool looking to get beaten down.

Right now, instead of blindly throwing himself into a fight, it was better to use his advantage as a demon, wielding the supreme laws of time to punish that wretched giant.

After all, he could live for a long time. Let's see who outlasts whom.

Belial quickly convinced himself that this was the best course of action and sat down with a clear conscience.

This wasn't cowardice—it was a well-thought-out strategy that minimized risk and maximized success. It was a display of a mature demon's wisdom.

It had nothing to do with fearing that walking, human-shaped sun.

As for those minions he abandoned... well, they were just a bunch of useless trash anyway. Let them perish. He didn't care at all.

As Belial's thoughts reached this point, a voice suddenly rang in his ears.

"Oh, great Dark God..."

"This is the blood of a virgin, offered to you according to your demands..."

It was one of Belial's followers.

This particular follower was the most devout human he had cultivated on Earth. They prayed to him almost eight times a day. If there were a voicemail box for prayers, Belial would probably have 99+ missed messages every day.

Of course, being a busy demon, Belial rarely responded, though the follower always believed their prayers were heard.

The classic case of "read but not replied."

After the recent defeat, Belial closed his eyes and tasted the soul offered by the follower through a ritual. It calmed him down a bit.

Feeling slightly better, he decided to send a rare response.

"Your prayers have indeed reached me."

The follower trembled upon hearing the booming voice in their mind, overwhelmed with excitement.

A response! He actually responded!

He's thinking about me!

"But it is not enough," Belial's deep voice continued. "I am not in my best condition. I need more blood."

"Huh?" The follower panicked. "Not in the best condition... Is it because the sacrifice wasn't enough? It's my fault, Dark Lord. I should have found more sacrifices and offered you more blood."

Even Belial had to pause at that statement.

Have today's followers become this diligent?

However, his current condition had nothing to do with the follower's efforts. In fact, it was because he had personally descended to deal with the mess caused by other followers, only to get smashed to pieces by the enemy.

It was like a devoted fan apologizing to their idol, saying, "It's my fault I didn't take care of you," and the idol replying, "No, it's just because I overused my throat at a party last night..."

Comparing the two, Belial suddenly realized that this human follower was far more loyal and reliable than those incompetent, troublemaking demon minions.

So, he responded kindly: "Keep working hard. If you offer enough, there may be a chance for you to receive my direct blessing."

The follower trembled. "I will do everything to please you! I'll speed up and gather more high-quality souls!"

There was no further response.

The darkness returned to silence.

Meanwhile, after quickly finishing off Belial's avatar, Shen You's space-time bracelet activated again. His form transformed into a ball of light and shot through the dimensional mirror, returning to his red-and-silver armor.

Now that their leader had fled and been obliterated, with their grand scheme collapsing, the remaining underlings were left in disarray. Too weak to fight and with no chance to flee, they could only kneel in submission, hoping to appear as harmless as possible in hopes of mercy.

Back in his armor, Shen You cleared his throat.

"Good. It seems everyone left is here... Now, who's going to speak first and explain the situation?"

Shen You scanned the room, his eyes landing on a scorpion demon, whose head was nearly buried in its claws.

"Don't look at others. I'm talking to you, Scorpion."

The scorpion demon trembled and hesitantly crawled forward, speaking in a low voice.

"What do you need from me?"

"When I came in earlier, didn't someone say they were going to get revenge on me?"

The scorpion demon trembled again, putting on a nervous smile. "No, no... I thought about it again, and, actually, I don't really know Yusak that well."

"What were you all gathering here for? You seem to have had some plan," Shen You asked.

"Actually... not much," the scorpion demon confessed honestly. "There's this human called 'Riddler' who's planning something big. We were supposed to catch Batman and offer him as a sacrifice to... I mean, to that idiot Belial. So, we were going to help him."

Shen You narrowed his eyes.

"Tell me more about this 'big plan.'"

End of today's triple update! Keep reading!
