章 2: Chapter 2: The Wolf Gang
Consuming Sea King meat can indeed make one stronger. It's known that powerful individuals have tremendous appetites. However, hunting Sea Kings is no easy feat, especially for a thirteen-year-old boy. For now, training is paramount. Once he has enough strength to protect himself, he can venture into the sea to hunt Sea Kings.
The island where Sharlo resides is very small, with a habitable area only around the port, which is home to about a thousand people. Beyond the port, mountains cover ninety percent of the island, making it a desolate place perfect for Sharlo's training and hunting.
As an orphan, Sharlo has never known his parents and has lived off the charity of the town mayor's family. Life was hard, leading him to fish by the sea for food, which ultimately resulted in the unfortunate incident of being swept away by waves.
Leaving his thatched hut, Sharlo grabbed a machete and headed into the vast mountains, setting a small goal for himself: to become the conqueror of these mountains. He quenched his thirst with spring water and ate various fruits, narrowly avoiding poisonous ones thanks to a spider-sense-like intuition. This heightened sense, akin to predicting danger, saved him numerous times.
Living self-sufficiently, Sharlo occasionally set traps to catch game and sometimes descended the mountain to trade animal skins for necessities. Despite living in isolation for a year, he didn't feel lonely; instead, he was thrilled to feel himself growing stronger daily. His body, no longer frail, could now withstand a tussle with wild boars, and injuries healed remarkably fast after a hearty meal, highlighting the extraordinary nature of the One Piece world.
Recognizing the limits of basic exercises, which no longer fatigued him, Sharlo decided to intensify his training. He took the precious furs he had collected over the year down to the port market. There, he saw a child struggling under a heavy load, drawing the attention of onlookers.
As Sharlo began setting up his stall, laying out a mat and placing the furs on it, he was approached by curious townsfolk, who were quickly irritated by his blunt demand that they either buy something or leave him alone.
Soon, a gang known as the Wolf Gang took notice of him. The gang leader, a burly man named Bass wearing a gold chain and sporting a gold tooth, approached Sharlo. Bass arrogantly demanded a "tax" for setting up a stall on their turf, casually grabbing two valuable furs. Sharlo's quick reflexes caught Bass's wrist, stopping him.
When Sharlo demanded payment of 20,000 Beli for the furs, Bass laughed loudly, joined by his henchmen. Unfazed, Sharlo tightened his grip, causing Bass to struggle unsuccessfully to free himself. As Bass attempted to draw a knife, Sharlo swiftly overpowered him, pinning him to the ground.
The gang members rushed at Sharlo with knives and batons, but he effortlessly took them down with a few punches and kicks. The onlookers were stunned by his strength and the ease with which he subdued the gang.
Ignoring the shocked crowd, Sharlo stripped Bass of his gold chain and gemstone ring, punching him in the mouth and causing him to howl in pain.
