As someone who still had terrible stories of her own to tell, Elua understood that some things seemed better left untouched until the appropriate time. And… as someone who loved her husband-wife - she would prefer not to poke at the kind of story that caused the normally abundantly calm girl any level of anger.
While it was interesting that she somewhat 'shared' Yatrel's tendency to obsess over their romantic partner… there was another tendency she shared with a parent - one that she liked to think about a lot less.
'I am so terrible at talking away people's anger.'
The Goltbred daughter was sure she would accidentally say the wrong thing and that negative emotion might transfer to be about her! If it hadn't been a trait she possessed in her past life, she would be rather displeased at being her father's progeny.
If you haven't talked to an inanimate object like it could understand you, all while knowing full well that you would be FREAKED out if it responded...
Well, you just haven't lived. It's a very "I know better, but..." moment of pseudo-psychotic break. *Not that I would know*.
Oh, not that it's a big plot point or anything... but if you haven't noticed from two more mentions that I haven't done since early chapters - Elua hates cats. Someone who actually hates them might have a lot better reasons to give for *why*, but it's something I really don't understand about my own character!
Except when they bite you right after leaning their own head into your hand. Or scratch at your ankles as you pass by thinking it is play. Or want to lay on your keyboard, arm, and just generally in ways that keep you from being productive on a computerized device.
They're really great pets. Yes.
