章 519: Chapter 519: Another New Year

[Chapter 584: Another New Year]

The day after Christmas, a shocking case captured national attention:

JonBenet Ramsey, a 6-year-old American child beauty pageant champion, known as "America's Little Miss," was found dead in the basement of her home in Boulder, Colorado. Not only did her body show signs of having been beaten, but the autopsy also indicated she had suffered sexual assault before her death.

Arthur leaned back in his office chair and set down the newspaper with a sigh, saying, "Such a beautiful little girl; there are just too many perverts in America!"

Kate Beckinsale nodded. "The whole country is talking about it now."

"Child beauty pageants, I don't even know who came up with that." Arthur shook his head as he stood up and stretched. "When does Good Will Hunting start filming?"

"It kicks off in early February, with Robin Williams and Matt Damon as the leads," she replied.

"Scream 3 will start filming right after the New Year," Kate Beckinsale added.

As she wrapped her arms around Arthur's neck, she continued, "You're piling on more and more work for me; don't you have any days off left?"

Arthur smiled, his hands sliding to her waist as he leaned down to give her a gentle kiss. "Thinking about acting again? Should I set up a role for you?"

Kate shook her head. "Right now, I don't even want to act. Being next to you means I already have it all. I'm planning to take a trip back home. Do you want to come with me to London?"

After all, at that moment, Kate Beckinsale didn't lack money and could do whatever she desired.

"I have other things to do. Maybe next time," Arthur scooped her up and settled onto the couch, casually unbuttoning her shirt and feeling her softness beneath. "This time you should spend some quality time with your family."

Kate leaned against him, allowing him to explore.

"By the way, about that author you were interested in, Robert Ludlum, his spy novels, the Bourne trilogy -- The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum -- the rights for adaptation expire this year with Warner Bros. Should we buy them?"

"Of course we should. Haven't you seen how successful Mission: Impossible was this year? There's definitely a market for spy and agent stories," Arthur said, kissing her neck. "Let's go directly to contact Robert Ludlum to purchase the adaptation rights."

Arthur certainly wasn't going to let the Bourne trilogy slip through his fingers.

"But the TV adaptation of The Bourne Identity in the late '80s didn't do very well," she reminded him.

"Early episodes of Mission: Impossible had pretty high ratings," Kate pointed out.

"Doesn't matter. Robert Ludlum's books sold very well. The TV show basically copied the novel, and that definitely won't work. For the movie, I'll ensure the script gets a thorough rewrite." As he spoke, Arthur closed the distance and kissed Kate.

...

The next morning, a Lamborghini cruised from Los Angeles along Interstate 15 towards Las Vegas. Arthur sat in the passenger seat, glancing at the driver, Joey Wong, and laughed. "Why did you suddenly decide to drive there? It takes four hours."

"Well, Rosamund Kwan said she's flying straight from Texas to Las Vegas tonight anyway. We don't really have anything else to do, and I want to experience the scenery on Highway 15."

Arthur nodded. "In a bit, we'll be in vast stretch of desert. With so many cars and an extensive highway network, the land is vast, and many people love road trips. The stretch from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on Interstate 15 is probably one of the busiest."

Initially excited, Joey Wong lost her enthusiasm after about two hours of driving.

"Ha ha, let's take a break; there's a salon and bar at the gas station ahead for some food," Arthur laughed, playfully patting her thigh. Joey Wong, in shorts paired with a white shirt, looked sexy and beautiful.

"Okay," she said with an embarrassed smile; indeed, the scenery became dull after staring at it for too long.

Once at the gas station, they parked and stepped out, both wearing sunglasses. Joey Wong had even put on a wide-brim hat to shield from the sun.

"Let's go," Arthur said with a smile, wrapping his arm around her waist as he leaned in for a kiss. "Do you want to drive for the rest of the way?"

Joey Wong shook her head. "You drive; I don't want to anymore."

"Alright, we're not in a rush. We can stop whenever we come across an interesting place."

Arthur also wanted her to genuinely enjoy the sights and landmarks along the route.

"Sounds great! Let's grab something to eat first."

...

After that, they traveled, stopping periodically. Originally meant to arrive in Las Vegas by noon, they stretched it to the afternoon and finally checked in at the MGM Grand Hotel.

"I'm a bit tired," Joey Wong declared as she flopped onto the sofa in their suite, feeling drained.

"What's the matter? Is that all it took to wear you out?" Arthur teased, his hand stroking her thigh. "Want to eat something before taking a break? Rosamund Kwan will arrive later; I'll send someone to pick her up at the airport!"

"Let's take a shower first," Joey Wong suggested.

Arthur nodded and then carried her into the bathroom, where they enjoyed a combined shower.

Later that evening, Rosamund Kwan arrived in Las Vegas, and the three prepared to ring in the New Year together.

That night, in the spacious hot tub at the top suite of the MGM Grand, Arthur, Rosamund Kwan, and Joey Wong soaked in the warm water, admiring the night view of Las Vegas outside.

After sharing some passionate kisses with Rosamund, Arthur asked, "So, is the film wrapped?"

"Yep, it's been filmed and edited, and it should be ready for release within a month," Rosamund Kwan said as she pulled Joey Wong toward her, playfully squeezing her side.

"Ha," Joey Wong jumped in surprise and then wrapped her arms around Rosamund Kwan, pulling her close. "Are Hong Kong martial arts films still popular?"

Joey Wong had starred in plenty of martial arts movies, and she knew of the decline in that genre.

"Once Upon a Time in China and America isn't really martial arts, more like a kung fu film," Rosamund Kwan commented, then looked at Arthur. "What about Rush Hour? Has it wrapped yet?"

Arthur shook his head. "They just officially started filming in November, and they won't finish until February. It's scheduled for a September release."

"Jet Li's Black Mask cost Galaxy $1.6 million to acquire the North American rights. I've seen it, and it's pretty good. It should be hitting theaters soon," Arthur said, pulling the two women closer to him.

"Alright, they're setting off fireworks outside," Joey Wong announced before leaning over the side of the tub with Rosamund Kwan to gaze out the window.

Arthur shook his head. Another new year had arrived!
