Hun Yu wiped the sweat from his brow and cleared his throat. "Actually, I lost it," he said, trying to sound as genuine as he could.

Yun Xiu's eyes widened slightly, but she quickly masked her surprise with a huff. "You lost the protection pendant?" she repeated, her tone sharp. "How careless can you be?"

Hun Yu looked down. "I'm really sorry. I'll find it somehow."

"Whatever," Yun Xiu said, turning away with a flick of her hair. "Just don't expect me to save you next time."

"And no need to find it again since it is lost, then be it," she said as she turned and looked outside the window. Her eye caught something.
