Akira walked slowly and deliberately toward Hiro's room, the cold fluorescent lights of the hospital casting a sterile glow over the polished floor.
The ambience around her was creepy and almost uncanny.
"Is this a hospital or a horror movie?" She said to herself while still walking.
The silence was almost deafening, interrupted only by the hum of medical equipment and the faint beeping of monitors in distant rooms.
Moreover, the sound of her footsteps seemed to echo in the whole building.
As she moved through the quiet hallways and climbed the stairs, a sense of unease crept over her.
It was as if someone was watching her.
Her instincts, honed by years of experience, didn't let her ignore that feeling.
She gripped the hidden knife in her pocket, the cool metal comforting in her palm.
Each step was measured, her breaths controlled.
Nothing in her expression betrayed the vigilance she carried within her.
She kept moving her eyes around her and sometimes looking back to make sure that nobody was following her.
Akira kept walking and walking , thinking about any possible scenario with this guy.
She clearly didn't want any other problem , and more than that, any other situation that could hurt Kai, would've ruined everything.
If someone touches what's dear to Kai, that person is literally hurting also Hina.
Akira had to get rid of inconvenient problems.
She perfectly knew that.
Finally, she reached Hiro's room.
She looked up to see if it was the correct room.
"N. 306… right?" She mumbled.
The number on the door was a stark reminder of the situation they were in.
She took a moment to listen and look at her back the hallway quiet, before knocking softly.
She didn't say anything, until a low voice spoke.
"Come in, Kai! Quick, come inside," said a muffled, anxious voice from inside.
Akira opened the door slowly with a mischievous smile and stepped in.
The room was dimly lit, the curtains only half-drawn, allowing a thin beam of moonlight to cast pale streaks across the bed and floor.
Hiro sat up in the bed, his body swathed in bandages that covered even his mouth, revealing only his wide, frightened eyes.
"Hello, K-" he tried to say, but he stopped himself after noticing that the person in front of him was not Kai.
When Hiro saw Akira, his eyes grew even wider, filled with terror.
His mind raced to the worst conclusions: that she was a hitman sent to silence him for good, and that something terrible had happened to Kai.
Those would've been the only possible options that came up to his mind.
He started moving inside his bed very eagerly and held a button next to him.
He was probably about to call the nurses.
Akira raised one hand in a calming gesture.
"Relax, Hiro," she said, her voice firm yet surprisingly gentle. "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here to help and find out what's going on."
Hiro held his breath, every muscle in his body tense as he stared at her.
Her words, though meant to be reassuring, barely pierced the whirlwind of panic in his mind.
But slowly, the initial fear ebbed, replaced by confusion.
He realized that he would've already been dead if Akira was a bad person.
"Where's… Kai?" he asked, his voice muffled by the bandages but still quivering.
"He's safe, don't worry," Akira replied as she cautiously stepped forward, ensuring her movements were slow so as not to frighten him further. "I took this call because I needed to know more. Kai asked me to investigate."
Kai clearly didn't ask her anything.
She lied to calm the guy in front of her.
Hiro swallowed, his shoulders relaxing slightly, though wariness remained etched in his eyes.
"I thought… I thought you were here to… finish the job. A lot of people know what happened to my house and that I survived..." he said, with a calmer tone of voice, placing the emergency button next to him.
Akira studied him intently, noting the depth of fear and the knowledge reflected in his gaze.
He wasn't just afraid; he was burdened by secrets that went far beyond what he should have been dealing with.
"I know you don't trust me," Akira said, her tone softening, "but I only want to protect Kai. If there's anything that puts him or anyone else in danger, I need to know. We have a lot of things to care about and I don't want other useless problems." Akira said, with a firm tone.
Hiro hesitated, eyes darting to the door as if expecting danger to burst through at any moment.
But finally, he nodded, a spark of understanding crossing his face.
"It's Hana," he whispered, the sound barely more than a breath. "My sister… she did something. Something terrible, and now we're all caught up in it."
Akira clenched her jaw, her expression hardening as she shifted her weight, ready for whatever Hiro was about to reveal.
"Tell me everything," she said, eyes locked on his, the tension in the room thickening like a storm waiting to break.
She then leaned her back against the wall , next to his bed.
Hiro was still scared of the woman in front of him.
"Well… let's say that my sister actually made a deal with bad people…" He said, with a muffled and scared voice.
"Bad people? How much bad?" Akira asked, with a curious voice while crossing her arms.
"Very… bad." Hiro said, sounding like he was on the verge of crying.
"Continue." Akira said with a firm voice.
"My sister became different since the kidnap of Yuna." Hiro said. "I still don't know how she reached those people, but… she said that she wanted to 'free' Kai from Hina and that those people would've helped her." Hiro added, while looking at his thumbs.
Akira's eyes widened when she heard her sister's name and she clenched her fists.
"What? So you're basically saying that your sister made a deal with bad people to eliminate Hina?" Akira asked, with a slightly angry tone of voice.
Hiro nodded his head and looked back at Akira.
He was clearly destroyed about what his sister did.
"Yes.. and there's nothing I could do to avoid this. Now I'm totally scared for my sister's life. More than that… I still don't know where she got the money." Hiro said.
"What a shitty situation." Akira sighed.
"Where's your sister now, boy?" She then asked.
"I… don't know. She left a few hours ago, saying that she was gonna return home and that she would've taken care of Hina very soon." Hiro said, with a broken voice.
His body was shaking slightly from anger.
He clearly didn't want for this situation to happen.
Akira didn't show any sign of anger or worry.
She had to remain calm despite the boiling blood she had in her veins.
Someone wanted to eliminate her beloved little sister.
She clearly couldn't allow something like that.
"Is that everything you wanted to say, little boy?" Akira asked, with a more "aggressive"but calm tone of voice.
Hiro nodded his head.
"Please,I beg you. Don't hurt my sister. She had probably been manipulated. She's a very kind girl with-" Hiro tried to say with a desperate voice.
"Do you think that kind people make deals with criminals to eliminate other people? Manipulation ? I don't think so." Akira said, with a strict tone of voice.
He looked down after hearing her reply.
He couldn't say anything to her.
"I… beg… you… don't hurt her. I know that she's wrong. That's why I'm saying these things to you. To stop her." He said with a desperate voice, while looking at Akira directly into her eyes.
She sighed.
"I actually have a feeling that Kai wouldn't allow to hurt her, so she should okay. But I need to know who these bad people are." She said.
Hiro stayed silent for some seconds before speaking.
He then took a deep breath.
"… The Kurotaka Syndicate." He said.
Akira's eyes widened.
"… you're joking, aren't you?" She said.
He shook his head.
"No. I swear on my whole family. She said this to me." He whispered.
"Oh fuck. That's more dangerous than I thought." Akira said with a sigh, while clenching her fists.
"Do you know that those people are literally the second strongest clan after the Kobayashi dragons? How the fuck did your sister made a deal with them?!?"" Akira yelled , with with a low voice.
"I… don't know. I told you. She didn't tell me all the details. She just came here smiling and telling me all these things that I told you now." Hiro said while scratching his left leg.
"Okay. Okay. This is more serious than I thought." Akira said , while walking around the room.
She then composed herself.
"Understood. So we have even more enemies now. That's really great." Akira said while softly slapping her forehead.
Hiro was remaining silent.
"Okay, boy. Listen to me now." Akira said with a firm tone.
"Y-Yes?" He said.
"Don't you ever get out from this hospital, okay? I don't want other problems to Kai. And from this moment, you'll inform us on every fuckin single movement. Am I clear?" She said, sounding like a military commander.
Hiro seemed to be scared.
"Y-Yes. Okay. But I'm still totally hurt from the burns, it will still take weeks or months to recover. So I won't leave this place soon." Hiro said.
Akira smiled at him.
"Good. Now I'm leaving. See you." She said, while rapidly walking out from the room.
She didn't even care about him.
All she knew was that she had to urgently inform Hina and Kai about the whole situation…
