章 12: The Market
Adam lays on the bed and wears the headset. Immediately, a text panel appears.
[Would you like to enter the game?]

Adam picks yes and his view immediately changes to an empty dark street. Adam looks around and sees a few taverns that are still open and a few people that are returning to their homes.
Adam sees that it will take some time until the sun rises and decides to check his status panel first. He has killed a lot of monsters along the way to the town. Although not as much as when he hunted down monsters in the level 10 area, it is still quite a bit.

Seeing the amount of free exp he has, Adam is surprised. He is not good at calculation and most of the time he just swipes away any new notification from killing monsters. He roughly calculated it and most of the exp probably came from the 4 level 20 ogres that he killed.
Adam looks at the panel for a while. He is torn between leveling up the high ranking skills or evolving the low ranking skills. In the end, Adam decides to evolve the low ranking skills just because he doesn't like the way it looks.

Seeing the almost 1 million exp gone just like that, Adam felt a little tight in the chest. But his mood immediately improved when he felt 2 new types of energy in the area around him. One of them felt stronger than the other. The stronger one is what he assumes is the Darkness element and the weaker one is the light element. Adam assumes so because the surroundings are dark since the sun hasn't risen yet.
Adam also plays around by creating little balls of elements. Of course, he didn't throw it around since the power would probably destroy the town. He continues playing around with it until he realizes that the darkness elements are getting weaker and weaker until finally the power of both elements becomes equal and he sees that the sun is on the horizon.
The sunrise view can only be described as gorgeous. He doesn't know how the developers make the game so realistic but Adam is really thankful for it. He sits there for a while until suddenly his name is called.
"Adam!"
Adam turns his head towards the caller and sees Ferdinez and the others walking towards him in casual clothes.
"Hey, you all are early."
"Early? This is the time we usually meet together though. The early one is you. Since when have you been waiting here."
"Not long. I arrive here around 1 hour before sunrise."
"You've been waiting for more than 1 hour?"
"Yeah. No worries though I've something I need to do just now so it's not that long."
"I see. Well then. Let's go to the market. Do you have money or would you like to visit the butcher first?"
"Let's go to the butcher first."
"Okay. Follow me. I will show you the way to the butcher."
With that Adam follows the group as they walk towards the butcher. Along the way, he sees the stores along the street start to open up. He doesn't know why but looking at the scenery, he felt at peace. He feels like he has returned to his hometown. Unconsciously, his lip raises a little. A small smile that comes from the feeling of nostalgia.
Suddenly, Ferdinez stops in his tracks and turns to his right. Adam looks toward the direction he is facing and he sees a big building with a big sign that has 2 knives crossing each other.
"This is the butcher. All butchers in the city generally work here and this shop is directly under the government. The government applies strict controls over the circulation of monster corpses. This is because monster corpses could be used to make food, craft equipment and potions, and most importantly monster corpses can be used to raise the other monsters and make them stronger."
Adam nods to Ferdinez's explanation as they walk into the building. They walk to the counter and Ferdinez greets the worker.
"Carlos. You're early today."
"Hmph. I'm always early. It's only you that arrives at times when I'm not in store."
"Yeah, yeah. Anyway, we have a few corpses today. Do you wanna handle it or should I find other people?"
"Are you implying I am incompetent in doing my job? Hmph, come with me to the back for inspection."
As Carlos leaves, Ferdinez and the group quickly follow him. While walking Micheal leans towards Adam and whispers.
"Although Carlos speaks like that with captain, they are actually old friends. I heard that Carlos once was also a knight candidate but because he protected captain during a mission, he is permanently injured and can't do extreme exercise anymore."
Adam nods to Michael's words and continues following them. Adam also can see that they are friends since the words they exchanged just now lack any hostility to call them enemies.
They walk for a bit more and finally arrive at an open space with large tiled floors. Adam looks as Ferdinez takes out monster corpses from what he can assume from his inventory.
Carlos wears a pair of gloves and starts checking the corpses. After a while, he put down the corpses and called some people to take them corpses away.
"Most of the corpses are in good condition except for the Ogre. I can give you 50 gold coins for all of that.
"Yeah, sure. Anyway, my friends here also have some corpses to sell."
Hearing Ferdinez's cue, Adam dumps all the monster corpses that he has collected so far. Every single one of them shows a wide eye when they see the amount of corpses on the ground. Carlos rubs his forehead and immediately calls a few other butchers to help him asses all the corpses.
"Huuhh, that's probably the most amount of corpses I have seen from one person. What do you even do to gain this many corpses? Slaughter a few nests? Anyway, most of these corpses are in good condition. Hmmm, 300 gold coins but on the account that this is your first time I'll add 50 more gold coins. How about that?"
Hearing the total amount of money he will receive, Adam immediately agrees like fearing that Carlos will change the amount.
Adam takes the money and keeps it inside his inventory. After thanking Carlos, Adam, Ferdinez, and the group left the butcher and proceeded to the marketplace.
"So Adam, what would you like to find first?"
"Hmm, where are skill books sold?"
"Skill books? Well, the biggest skill books store is that one."
While speaking, Ferdinez points at a shop with a big book sign on top of the shop.
"That bookstore is the biggest in the whole town. No matter what type of book you want either normal book or skill book it will be there. I even heard a rumor that if you're lucky you might find a grimoire."
"Grimoire? As in the magic books?"
"Yes. Grimoire are rumored to not only increased your magical capability, they also have an innate high level spells inside that can be cast easily."
"Wow. Maybe I could try to find one."
"Hahaha, all I could say is good luck to that. Anyway, if you need anything from me you could find us at the blacksmith. It is the one with the anvil and hammer sign."
With that Ferdinez and the group left towards a certain shop. Adam watches them dissapears into the incoming crowds and proceeds towards the bookstore.
