Annalise stared at Matteo with an incredulous look in her eyes, before a familiar anger welled up within her.

"You, out of all people, have no right to speak!" Annalise barked out, upset. "If not for the both of you, would my daughter be living so pathetically right now?"

Emmeline was in this hot mess because he wouldn't put aside Amelia. If he had simply gone along with the marriage, would Emmeline need to do something as drastic as faking a pregnancy to trap him? 

Of course Matteo wanted Emmeline to abort the child. That way, there wouldn't even be a hint of a scandal left. But if Emmeline did so, she'd have nothing left! No man in high society would want a wife that was so blatantly 'used goods'. 

With modern times, people were more accepting of women having premarital sex. But being pregnant and having an abortion was simply too much for most people to accept!
