章 44: Meeting The Family - 2
I honestly have no idea how much time as passed since I started looking directly in Mell's eyes, but slowly, I feel the scorching pain inside my body slowly begin to calm down, making it just a little bit more bearable.
"Mom, you okay?"
"Fufu, I'm okay. It sure is scary though." I'm still having trouble talking, but I do as I'm told and continue to only look forward, into her eyes. "Her mana's raging inside of her, desperately trying to kill me."
"What?" Both Charlotte and Luna raise their voices upon hearing her mother's words.
"Don't worry. Right now it's sights are on me. Just stay behind Shiro and comfort her the best you can."
At her words, I feel Charlotte wrap her arms around my waist from behind, but I can't really appreciate her warmth at all as this scorching pain inside me is still eating me out from inside.
"It's okay, Shiro. You're doing great." Charlotte spoke softly in my ear as I felt a spark of warmth radiate in my chest. I try and focus on that spark amongst the flames inside me while I continue to look into her mother's eyes, but the pain is getting too much as I end up squeezing Charlotte's hands that she wrapped around me for some comfort. "H-how much more?"
"I would've hopped that her mana would stabilize by now, but it's still as ruthless as ever..." Mell for the first time look a bit perplexed as she continues to stare in my eyes. "Shiro. If it's too much, just say so, okay?"
"Nn." I nod my head, letting her know I understand, but I refuse to back down just yet. Charlotte, her mother, and Luna are all here, trying to support me. I need to get through this.
But suddenly, I felt my vision start going blurry as my head began to feel incredibly light. At the same time, the pain that's burning inside my body slowly dissipated, along with my consciousness as in the next moment, my blurred vision went dark. The only lingering feeling I can feel is Charlotte's arms around me...
When I finally came to, upon opening my eyes, I found myself laying down on a bed, staring up at a ceiling.
"Shiro!" Charlotte? I turn my head to her voice as I soon lock eyes with her.
"Ah-!" I quickly close my eyes before checking my head, but it looks like I have the mask back on me. I'm glad. But in the next moment, Charlotte wrapped her arms around me, just like earlier, only this time from the front as our bodies press against one another tightly.
"I'm glad you're okay."
"Ch-Charlotte?"
"Fufufu. You gave us quite the scare back there." Another voice. Her mother?
While still embracing Charlotte, I lift my head away to her mothers' voice as I see her resting on a chair in the same room, with Luna serving something in a cup to her.
"Are you okay, Mell?" Luna spoke up, concerned about Charlotte's mother. To me she looks fine, but maybe I'm wrong.
"I'm fine. Just been a while since I had to do something like that."
"I swear... What will your mom say if she saw you like this."
"Ehehe~ She'd probably be doing what Charlotte's doing with Shiro, before scolding me."
"Exactly~ You can't be reckless either."
While Mell and Luna was talking with one another, Charlotte didn't budge one bit, keeping me in her arms as I too kept my arms around her, holding her close.
"Don't push yourself so hard..." Charlotte is the first one to break the silence between us, her voice a lot quieter than her mother or her aunt. "I might've made a promise to not go away, but that doesn't mean you can do that..." Her voice continues on in a quiet, soft tone, but with us being this close, I hear everything perfectly.
"I-I'm okay now." I manage a reply, also speaking in a soft tone so that maybe Charlotte can only hear. But that only seemed to made Charlotte hold me more firmly as her warmth surrounding me increases.
"But you weren't okay before, right? You were shaking... My hands still hurt as well."
"Huh? Are you okay?" Suddenly hearing that Charlotte is hurting makes me want to pull away from our embrace to check, but Charlotte continues to hold me, not letting me go.
"I'm fine, hehe. You should be more worried about yourself." That's...
"I cannot do that." That's impossible for me at this point. "You're important to me, so of course I'd worry."
"Something trivial like that though is-"
"It's not trivial to me."
"Shiro..." After hearing that she's hurt, and that I'm the one responsible for it. I feel a stinging pain in my chest, unlike the pain I felt earlier.
"You mean too much to me. Hearing that you're in pain is painful for me as well..." I end up tightening my hold on Charlotte instead of trying to move away. "So, you're not trivial to me..."
We say nothing else as we continue to embrace. I'm getting better at putting my feelings into words, and that stinging pain I felt just before is now gone, leaving me to focus on just Charlotte's warmth; her kindness...
"Fufu. Maybe we should give them some alone time."
"Y-yeah..."
"Eh?" Hearing her mother and her aunt's words, Charlotte finally removed herself from me as we both look over to the two of them.
"Glad to see that you found someone you like, Charlotte."
"M-mom?!"
"Fufufu~ Don't worry, let's go Luna."
"Y-yes! Coming!"
And just like that both her mother and aunt leave the room, leaving just Charlotte and I in the room.
