Sam and Logan went to the bar. Sam's men had cleaned up the bar. The blood on the floors had been wiped clean. New glass had been installed in place of the broken ones.
Sam went outside to talk to the guards. Logan entered the bar. Inside, two men were waiting.
"We're here for security, sir." The men looked at Logan with respect. The reputation of Logan and Sam had spread in the underworld. Powerful figures in the underworld had begun to take an interest in them.
Logan went to the back of the bar. There was no one there. Logan took out his cell phone and called Alexander. About five seconds later, Alexander answered the phone.
"Boss, are you aware of what happened?" Logan entered the bathroom and began washing his hands.
"You did a good job, but you're moving too fast. If you don't watch where you're going while running, you'll trip over a stone and fall." Alexander spoke calmly.
"He who thinks of the end cannot be a hero." Logan, after washing his hands, changed out of his blood-stained clothes.
"Alright, just be careful." Alexander hung up the phone. When Logan looked in the mirror, he noticed that his beard had grown too long. After shaving his beard, he tidied up his hair.
He left the bathroom. He was going to the hospital. He put on black pants, a white shirt, and a black jacket. Logan left his gun at the bar and went outside. Sam was waiting outside the bar.
"We can go now." Logan got into Sam's car. Sam handed his gun to a guard next to him and got in the car. One of the guards was driving. They were heading to the hospital.
When they arrived in front of the hospital, Logan and Sam got out of the car and entered the hospital. They went to the hospital receptionist.
"We're relatives of Charles Davis. Can we know his room number?" Logan asked the secretary which room Charles was in while briefly scanning the surroundings.
"Mr. Davis -" The secretary was about to respond when a voice interrupted them.
"I will tell you the details about Mr. Davis. Please follow me." A beautiful woman in a doctor's coat was looking at Logan as she spoke.
Logan and Sam followed the doctor through the hospital corridors. The doctor led them to a less crowded area. She stopped in front of a room and opened the door slightly. When they entered, they saw Charles Davis's lifeless body lying in the bed. The bed sheet was pulled up to Charles's head.
"Unfortunately, Mr. Davis passed away early this morning." The doctor's voice was sorrowful. "If you have any questions, I can help."
Logan's eyes filled with tears for a moment, but he quickly composed himself. Sam took a deep breath and gave Logan a slight nod. Logan, while trying to process what the doctor had said, quietly approached Charles. He gently stroked Charles's face one last time and silently prayed.
"Can you hand over his belongings and documents to us?" Logan asked without making eye contact with the doctor.
"Of course, I'll take care of it right away." The doctor nodded respectfully to Logan and left the room. Logan and Sam remained silent in the room for a few minutes. Then Logan, taking a deep breath, stood up.
"This isn't over, Sam. Whatever is behind Charles's death, we will uncover it."
Sam nodded. "We'll do whatever it takes, Logan."
The doctor returned shortly after and handed Logan a bag containing Charles's belongings and some documents.
"Everything you need is here. Also, you can get help from our hospital for funeral arrangements."
Logan thanked her as he took the bag. "We will handle the funeral arrangements ourselves. Thank you for your help, doctor."
Logan and Sam left the hospital and got back into the car. As they left the hospital, Logan took one last glance at Charles's room.
"We will honor his memory, Sam."
Sam responded with a look full of trust. "Of course, Logan. We will do our best for his memory."
The next day, preparations began for Charles Davis's funeral. Logan and Sam went to the funeral home and meticulously planned all the details. Charles was a respected figure in the underworld, so the funeral had to be grand and impressive.
On the day of the funeral, Charles's friends, family, and business associates gathered at the funeral home, all dressed in black. Logan and Sam stood by Charles's casket, greeting the attendees. Throughout the ceremony, many shared their memories and feelings about Charles's life.
At the end of the ceremony, Logan stepped up to the podium to give a short speech.
"Justice will be served for him, and his memory will live on. We will never forget him."
After the ceremony, Charles's body was buried in a private cemetery, as per his family's wishes. Logan and Sam stood silently by the grave, bidding their final farewell.
"May his soul rest in peace."
Logan nodded. "We have a lot more to do for him. This is just the beginning."
_____________
Logan and Sam were having a drink at the bar. Sam smiled slightly.
"I want to tell you how I met Charles."
"I'd like to hear it." Logan put his glass down on the table.
"I didn't have a very good family when I was a child. But I had a family. My father was a rich man. He made his money through illegal means. Maybe that's why he died. One day, while I was with him, someone shot him in the back." He took a sip of his drink.
"After my father died, the police came to our house. Because my father's money was earned through illegal means, all our assets were seized." Sam poured himself another drink.
"My sister, my mother, and I ended up on the street. My mother didn't care much for us. I had to help my sister. Back then, I was working as a street vendor. I was 11 years old." Sam was a bit agitated recalling the past.
"A man came and tried to take my money. When I refused to give it, he took it by force. I took a beating. But I could still stand. I got up and followed the man who took my money. He didn't notice me. I stabbed him in the back with the knife I had." Sam slammed his glass down on the table.
Logan could empathize. Life wasn't fair indeed.
"I was 11 years old. Too young to go to jail. I ran away. The police didn't suspect that the killer was an 11-year-old kid, so they didn't come after me. During that time, I met some guys. I needed money. I did some jobs for them. The last job they gave me was to kill a man. The money was very good. Although I hesitated at first, I accepted." Sam, after finishing his drink, lit a cigarette.
Logan also lit a cigarette.
"The man I was supposed to kill was Charles. Charles Davis. He was in a church. I thought of stabbing him from behind. I took the knife in my hand but couldn't kill him. My hand was trembling. When he saw me drop the knife, he looked into my eyes." Sam, while smoking his cigarette, was looking out the window at the people walking on the street outside the bar.
"I went there to kill him. But instead of killing me, he helped me. If I am where I am today, it's thanks to Charles."
_____________
Logan was sitting at the bar. He was thinking about continuing to run the place. When his phone rang, he looked at the caller ID. 'Theodore Williams'. He answered the call.
"Logan, where are you?" The caller was Alexander.
"I'm alone. I'm listening." Logan wanted to be alone right now. Alexander's call made him unhappy.
"I wanted to check on you. You've been reporting less since Charles's death." Alexander was a bit angry.
"I'll report when necessary." Logan hung up the phone. Logan lit another cigarette. He had learned so much from Charles and believed there was still something he could learn
As he smoked, someone entered through the bar's door.
The man who entered was wearing a suit.
"We're closed." Logan was curious about the purpose of the visit. The man didn't look like someone who would attack him.
"I'm not here for a drink. I'm a lawyer."
