"Captain, why was this prisoner brought to this place?" Rebecca asked with a puzzled look as she examined the wanted notice in her hand.
Although Raccoon City was prosperous, its location was extremely remote. There was no logical reason for a criminal like Billy to be here.
"This is indeed suspicious." Hearing Rebecca's question, the captain immediately fell into deep thought. As the captain of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team, Enrico was a meticulous and thoughtful person. His twenty years in law enforcement made him instinctively feel that something was off about this mission.
"You have a point. Stay close to me." After a brief silence, the captain instructed Rebecca.
The S.T.A.R.S. teams operated in pairs, and because Rebecca was new and a soft-spoken genius scientist, the captain paired with her.
"Yes, sir." Rebecca nodded and drew the pistol from her waist, ready to search the halted train.
While Rebecca searched inside the train, Enrico planned to scout the surroundings before joining her.
"Who's there? Come out!" Just as Enrico was about to move, he sensed something was wrong around him. He aimed his pistol at the rustling bushes and shouted.
"If you don't come out, I'll shoot!" Enrico said, slowly advancing towards the bushes.
"What the hell?" Enrico's face changed when he saw what emerged—a group of three zombie dogs. At that moment, Enrico had no idea what they were.
A foul stench wafted over him, making Enrico cover his nose. Just then, the three zombie dogs lunged at him from three directions.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
As soon as the zombie dogs moved, Enrico quickly retreated while firing three shots. Despite the rush, Enrico's accuracy as a S.T.A.R.S. member allowed him to slow down the dogs' movements and quickly climb up a nearby tree.
"Captain, what's happening?" Rebecca's voice crackled through the radio on Enrico's shoulder.
"Don't come out!" Enrico shouted urgently.
"Captain—ah!" Rebecca's scream and a gunshot followed from the radio.
"Rebecca! Rebecca!" Enrico shouted into the radio, but there was no response.
"Damn it!" Enrico was desperate. He kept firing at the zombie dogs below, needing to save Rebecca.
But before he could take them down, the train started moving, taking Rebecca away.
Enrico could only watch helplessly as the train departed.
"What on earth is going on? Why did the virus leak?" Inside a large, luxurious mansion in the Arklay Mountains, a young man in a white lab coat was shouting at Wesker.
"I don't know. The only thing we know is that the training facility has fallen," Wesker said coldly.
"Fallen? How could this happen? Aren't you going to do something? This place cannot be exposed."
"It's too late. The higher-ups have decided to destroy it. And this place too. You'd better prepare to leave." Wesker spoke calmly.
"What? Abandon this place too? My research is at a critical stage, about to succeed!"
"This is the higher-ups' decision. They plan to use this opportunity to test the B.O.W.s. The S.T.A.R.S. teams are on their way here. I need to return and join them." Wesker said as he walked away.
B.O.W.: Bio Organic Weapon.
"Damn it! I was so close to completing my latest virus. When it's done..." The young man in the white coat's eyes gleamed with malice as he watched Wesker leave.
"Dr. Abraham Erskine, once my G-virus is completed, it will surpass yours."
If Daniel heard this, he would be even more shocked. Dr. Abraham Erskine was connected to Umbrella Corporation?
Dr. Abraham Erskine was the creator of the Red Skull and Captain America, the inventor of the Super Soldier Serum.
"Umbrella's people are insane. This company is thriving. Why research bioweapons? With their manpower and resources, they could probably cure cancer." Daniel muttered as he continued researching Raccoon City.
"With this research capability, why not develop power armor, Gundams, or Iron Man suits?" Daniel never understood Umbrella's obsession with bioweapons.
Bioweapons were formidable, but modern firepower could easily destroy them. In the Resident Evil games, even the bosses couldn't withstand RPGs—one shot might not suffice, but a second one would do the trick.
Umbrella could make a lot of money with their pharmaceuticals. It might not be as fast as selling bioweapons, but it was still profitable.
If the T-virus's side effects could be eliminated, its medical applications would be revolutionary.
"The U.S. government..." While Umbrella was the main culprit behind Raccoon City's crisis, the government also played a significant role. Without their complicity, Umbrella couldn't have conducted bioweapon research for so many years without leaks.
Even after the outbreak, the government nuked Raccoon City.
"Who knows how many will survive this city in the end." Walking down the street, seeing the smiling faces of people around him, Daniel couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
Although multiple deaths had occurred around Raccoon City, the government's cover-up was thorough. Aside from those directly involved, everyone else still believed Raccoon City was a peaceful, prosperous, and happy place.
"Why do you all love dogs so much?" Daniel frowned at the many people walking their dogs on the street.
Daniel didn't know much about the USA. In his previous life, he was not someone who could travel abroad. Everything he knew came from the internet, TV shows, and videos.
Dogs were fine in normal times, but in a city about to face a bioweapon crisis, they would become zombie dogs. Unlike the slow-moving zombies, zombie dogs were much more difficult to deal with.
"Escaping through the mountains is impossible; the animals there, if infected, would be hard to handle. The only way out might be through the only route connecting Raccoon City to the outside. If Umbrella blocks it, the only option is to leave through the underground lab."
With this thought, Daniel headed to the police station. Based on his memory, Umbrella's lab was supposedly beneath it.
Bang!
Just as Daniel turned onto the street where the police station was located, he heard a gunshot, followed by people screaming and running.
The gunshot startled Daniel. He immediately dropped to the ground and activated his Surgical Fruit ability. From his experiments, Daniel discovered that ordinary people couldn't see the energy circle of the Surgical Fruit. He quickly crawled towards a parked car.
"That's my child! My child! You still haven't found the killer!" After two more gunshots, Daniel heard someone shouting ahead.
"Calm down. Put the gun down. We're still investigating," came a voice through a loudspeaker.
"Is this a grieving father?" After a brief exchange of gunfire, the police subdued the man.
"That was close." Watching the police officers' backs, Daniel let out a sigh of relief, deactivated his ability, and stood up beside a car. Having lived for over twenty years in his previous life, this was his first time witnessing a real shootout. It was nothing like what he had seen on TV or in movies.
"Are you okay?" A clear, melodious voice sounded behind him. When Daniel turned around, his face stiffened.
"Do you know me?" The tall woman in a red dress and red high heels smiled as she saw Daniel's expression.
"No, I just think you're very beautiful." Daniel immediately replied.
Ada Wong—her distinctive outfit and beautiful face made Daniel recognize her instantly.
"Great, now everyone is showing up."
"Thank you. It's a bit dangerous here. You should go home quickly." Ada left after saying this.
"If you're here, it definitely is dangerous."
