章 24: Msyterious Ring
A few minutes ago...
In a moving carriage heading towards the depths of Snow Lake jungle, a little girl named Sara, the daughter of a small merchant in Lake City, sat resting on the carriage window.
Fifteen men were protecting the carriage from all directions, a rare sight since the merchant didn't have enough wealth to hire all these guards with foundation establishment realm cultivation.
It should be known that even big merchants will only roam the lands with around seven to ten cultivators as guards, and even though their cultivation base was higher than these guards, their prices didn't differ much given their numbers.
Yet, this small merchant hired all these guards to protect his daughter, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that he placed all his wealth on this unknown mission.
"I wish Father was here with us," Sara said to Raven.
Raven was an eight-year-old kid, slender with tousled dark hair and wide, cold eyes. His tanned skin bore a few freckles across his nose. Dressed in simple, slightly oversized clothes, he had calloused bare feet and an air of boundless energy, his cold gaze hinting at experiences beyond his years.
"I am sure he would have wanted to little Sara, But you know, he is working hard for your sake," Raven said casually.
"But he is always busy he never has time for me, ever since Mom died, all he does is work. And don't call me little again, I'm the same age as you!" She pouted angrily, glaring at Raven with daggering eyes.
Not knowing how to deal with this troublesome girl, Raven was about to pinch her cheek, when one of the guards shouted " We are under attack!"
Immediately after the guard uttered these words, a group of men dressed in black jumped out of the forest, each one of them holding a weapon.
The leader of the guards Albert knew about the existence of bandits, but he had no choice since this road was the only one leading to the depths of Snow Lake Jungle, though also riddled with bandits, their appearance wasn't daily, but it seemed that luck was not on their side this time around.
" Tight formation, do not let them get to the young lady" Albert shouted.
When Sara heard about the bandits attacking their carriage, fear gripped her, she had heard about the horrible things bandits did, and the fact that they were being attacked made her freeze, her body uncontrollably shaking as she held her hands together and started praying.
'Father where are you, please save me...' Sara kept muttering these words under her breath as tears streamed out of her eyes, soaking her cheeks and hands.
She was so scared that she failed to hear Albert's next orders and words, asking her to hide inside the carriage without moving out.
Though her instincts immediately kicked in, and she crouched inside the carriage, an explosion resounded right after, followed by the screams of the guards who were hit by a fireball the size of a palm.
It was obvious the fireball was only meant to disturb the ranks of the guards and put the carriage on fire, it didn't have enough power to kill anyone after all.
As for Raven?
Albert didn't care about the kid in the slightest, for him, it would be even better if he perished in this fight, lest their young lady got brainwashed by him.
Hearing the screams outside, Sara began to sob, she liked Albert, he was kind and always listened to her, he was her only friend till Raven showed up a few months ago.
She was all alone after her mother died, since her so-called friends left her saying that she was cursed, and only Albert and Raven supported her by always talking and playing with her.
Especially Raven! She was having a lot of fun whenever he came to play with her, which lifted a lot of her sadness and pressure.
She looked out the window to check whether Albert was okay, and immediately after she did that, her attention was attracted to a pair of pitch-red eyes gazing at them from deep within the forest.
Her fear intensified a hundredfold after that scene and she was almost about to faint from the horror she felt, but Raven's warm tiny hand grabbed her head and placed it around his chest.
"Shhh, don't cry little Sara, nothing will happen to you since I'm here," Raven gently patted her head.
In a few seconds, Sara stopped trembling and sobbing, she piqued a quick glance at Raven's face and felt safe for some reason.
Raven only looked back at her with a smile, which made Sara bury her face in his chest again, a strange feeling blooming inside the depths of her soul.
This was supposed to be a journey to gather some precious blood and medical herbs from the forest's depths, but it was going south.
After a minute or so, she heard a loud explosion and froze.
Though she was just eight years old, she knew the power spells held, and an explosion that big had to have killed a few people at least. Her heart began to race even faster, the thought of Albert dying and being left stranded moved her body.
However, the warm tiny hand of Raven calmed her down the instant she thought about stepping out of the carriage to take a look.
Raising her head, she saw him placing his index finger on his lips, asking her not to make any sounds.
Raven had a view on the outside unlike herself, so he knew what was occurring around the carriage. Since Raven told her not to make a sound, she obviously would obey and not lead to their death.
Raven's eyes were locked on a certain burly figure holding a big black sword heading towards their carriage, he gently touched a green ring placed on his wedding ring finger and muttered in a low voice," Master, do you have the strength to kill the bandit's leader?"
In the next second, the charming voice of a woman gentle as a breeze sounded from the green ring," It's no issue, anyone below the Qi condensing realm will not impact my soul or weaken it when I use some of my power."
