"Alright," Wald said, his voice stronger than he felt. "Let's get to work."
The war room buzzed with activity as advisors and generals gathered around the large oak table. Maps and reports littered the surface, each one detailing another problem facing the kingdom. Wald's head swam as he tried to focus on the task at hand.
"Your Majesty," Roran began, his face grim, "the situation in the eastern provinces is deteriorating rapidly. We've received word that several towns have already fallen to the rebels."
Wald nodded, processing the information. "And what of our forces there?"
"Outnumbered and struggling," Roran replied. "They're holding for now, but without reinforcements, I fear they won't last long."
"We can't send reinforcements," Astrid cut in. "Not with half our army struck down by this illness. We're barely maintaining order in the capital as it is."
