章 14: VS Pegasus the Toon Enthusiast and Mind Reading 101

Ok, I have to admit it, I don't dislike it, but, neither have I approved of it, feels weird, and doesn't have the same tune as Yugi-boy~
Really, not even Pegasus voice helps at all; it feels weird in every sense of the word
Would have followed with my next train of thought if it wasn't for the point that now I found myself in an eerie dark and murky place, with only the creator of DM to accompany me here, well more like sit in some invisible chair in front of me but you get me.
"Forgive me, for this impromptu action of mine but sadly I don't count with the necessary time to entertain you as of now" his smile was amicable and it seems he was a little embarrassed by pulling me out form nowhere inside a shadow game space.
Well, this guy was always famous for been eccentric, both in the manga and anime, though in the later he died, which caused the existence of Yu-Gi-Oh! R, a spin-off that happened after Battle City, and when Yugi had in his power the three Egyptian Gods, if one could tell, instead of being animated it was replaced by the Orichalcos Arc in the anime.
Still…Orichalcos may be a filler arc, but goddamn what a filler arc, Naruto should learn a thing or two from it, ohhhhhh, now I get it! So that's where I heard that name before, not like it changes anything in my current situation or something, nonetheless that compels me to ask if there are other anime characters in this world or not, I hope not, it would be fill weird seeing Naruto and Sasuke having their fated fight as a Duel.
I am straying too much from what really matters right now, coming back to the man of the hour himself.
"I am surprised that you didn't try to read my mind while I was in lalalaland right now" I asked skeptical of the lack of intrusion from Pegasus, considering that in this realm he is almost a God.
At my accusation he only chuckled giving an carefree smile "Oh my, perish the thought Asuto-boy~ even I know when someone is trying to come to terms with powers or events far beyond their own understanding" he said like it was the most natural of reactions, heck he was laughing at me, thinking that thanks to showing his mambo jumbo Egyptian powers I was actually gone deep inside in my mind trying to reject the idea of being transported to wherever this is.
"Though I must ask you my boy, how is it that you know the power of my Millennium Eye" he said while parting the long strands of hair that covered his left eye only to show me instead of a regular eye but an eye made of gold and that was quite eye catching without being covered by his hair, if only he knew that said eye was made with the souls of a village filled with the worst scum of their era.
"I didn't" my answer caused him to freeze, just for a moment, only to later lose his signature smile "But I am not the only one who knows about the Millennium Items and some of their powers right?" I asked, trying to make it clear that I knew about the existence and powers of the Items while not revealing how much I knew.
Of course, he at least knew that I had some knowledge about his Eye, the real question would be, how much did I know?
I was going to keep going on, until a flash of gold caught my attention, making me stiffen in realization that maybe I pushed too hard too fast, but the lack of a reaction from him told me that he was taking quite his sweet time with it, which usually it's not how that tends to go, he only needs to see his objective once, not only to read their minds but to extract the information that he needs to attack where it hurts the most, it was how he always played, taking a childish almost annoying attitude in front of his opponents only to take them down with psychological warfare.
"Oh my~" after what I guess were minutes he finally spoke again "This is truly a surprise, it seems I can't actually read your mind at all" I was in disbelief at that, the damn system only acted as a shop where I could keep both my old and new cards and decks, it never displayed some sort of anti-mind reading ability or buff.
"It's the first time that this ever happened, nonetheless the point that we are both talking in this display not necessarily means that you are immune to the power of my Eye" he was right at that, he was able to take my soul and transport it alongside his to a space in the shadow realm, I could only clench my teeth's at that, I wasn't immune or something, no, my mind was safe, but not my soul, and that was worse.
Souls in Yu-Gi-Oh! Specifically in the first three series DM, GX and 5Ds always played an important role, and that was, it always represented a life and death situation, meaning a Duel where either the life, or better said, the soul of the duelist will be in the middle of the betting table, the one to win, lives, the one to lose, well, let's just say that the outcome, as said before, is dying, though, there are worst destinies than that in this particular franchise.
And if you don't believe me, then ask Aster Phoenix father how it feels to be literally eaten by your own card and still live inside it alongside the hundreds more souls that were offered to it by his own sick master.
"I guess so" all my answer had been mostly indifferent to his own conjectures at what was happening, I was trying to make him play at my level, I didn't exactly had a countermeasure against him, but with this, a Duel against him would be quite easy, well that would be if he didn't have the ability to see my cards that's it.
One thing is reading your mind; another one is always being able to read my hand, and still, I have the perfect card for him.
He chuckled at my answer, indifferent or not, he was letting me play my own mind game with him, he wasn't exactly an idiot just eccentric, totally on the contrary he is a genius on his own, and someone that has been in the industry far longer than Kaiba and I, well if you count my previous life I would be older and more experienced, but I am talking about the higher society here not the disgruntled costumer that sometimes I had to deal with in my previous company.
"Let's cut to the chase Pegasus, I know why you are here, but the question is do you know what I want from you?" he didn't say anything at that, he just narrowed his only functional eye at me, not understanding why I was saying something like that when the entire situation was both in his hands and under the power of his Eye.
"I know that you brought me here because you wanted to meet the man that beat the invincible Seto Kaiba in her own game" Once again time to play with fire, honestly I can't believe how truly reckless I was at that time, the point that I was mind reading bullet proof didn't mean that I couldn't be affected by mental attacks or be prey to illusions.
That asshole Yami Marik made sure of it.
"mmm~" Pegasus hummed at my words like if he were contemplating an enigma, a new puzzle to resolve, while he only was playing with me, he wasn't underestimating me, he just didn't saw me as a threat, time to change that then.
"Maximillian Pegasus, we both know why I am here" I said while pointing at him like a certain ace attorney "but you hold nothing to use against me!" I said hoping that my relationship with Gramps wasn't known to him, still the point that one way or another Gramps was going to be the victim of Yugi and Pegasus coming soon Shadow Game left a really bad taste in my mouth, but without it, Yugi would never participate in the Duelist Kingdom
"And as I said before, I have information about the Items even knowing that using some of them for long periods of time can be harmful to the owner" now he his attention was full on me, he wasn't glaring per se, but the way his only eye narrowed at my words, made it clear that I knew not only about his Eye but about the other Items too.
Before he could open his mouth I interrupted him, not letting him get a chance to change the flow of the conversation, I needed to get him in my game even if it was a child's play to him "That's why I propose something" my words made him arch one of his eye brows in interest.

"I am sure that you were going to challenge me to a Duel, the cost? Our Souls, though only mine would be in danger while yours would be safe I suppose" Understandment of the century, rule number one on dealing with those who love to use Shadow Games, they never play fare.

"And yeah, I know about Shadow Games too, you see Pegasus I know quite a lot, even…" my words were like honey, not smeared with subtlety but with lies, lies with a base in this case, I was a really bad liar, but in this case, my words rang true, and for him while unable to read my mind, that didn't mean that the Eye didn't gave him another ways to see if what I was saying was truth or not, and in this case, I had the entirety of anime and manga knowledge behind me to support me.
"…How to revive the dead" my last words gave me the reaction I wanted, he stiffened, he seemed more like an animal that hadn't drank water in weeks than the eccentric gentleman that he always portrait himself to be.
"Interested? I suppose so, after all…" my words and actions were similar to a cat, I slowly walked to my prey without taking my eyes from him, getting closer and closer with each every single ghostly step until "…who hadn't heard from, the infamous tragedy that befell the great creator of Duel Monsters" my words now whispers in his ears, while the trembling of his shoulders get away to the feelings that would never heal only scar in the end.
"Poor, poor Cecelia" and with her name brought out to light, I felt everything change, the atmosphere became even murkier, and I felt like something was trying to open my head with a hammer while feeling like the air, there wasn't air in that damned space, was escaping from my lungs.
My body was trembling, feeling like a fish out of water while confronting someone way above my own league, I tried to look at him only to see how a good portion of his face was now covered by his hair, and the only thing to stand out was his Eye shining with golden malice.
"You…How do you know that name?" his voice seemed to reverberate in the entire space, now lost the semblance of a man, he adopted one more of a God or Demon, though in this space he should be one or both I suppose.
I could feel how the sweat accumulated in my back, and how my legs seemed to be ready to give up any time, but, I had to keep going on, I had no magical device, no super powered system and much less some kind of super power with me.
I only had my labia and nothing more and that would have to suffice.
Grshk!- I grunted at the effort I made not only to keep standing but to talk too "I-I have a way to bring her back!" my words were more like a scream at the end, considering the pressure that I had to endure it wasn't difficult to say that I was in a really horrible situation right there.
And now it felt like everything was lighter, giving me a moment of respite, only to feel the previously gone pressure come back twice fold, making my legs give up in supporting my body and making me crash whatever this floor was made of.
"HOW?" His voice wasn't human anymore, now there was the subtlety of something demonic hidden deeps inside that tainted golden shine, it just make it even more difficult to talk and breathe, I could felt how my mouth open trying to get enough air form the nonexistent atmosphere making me look like I was choking in some kind of invincible liquid while a force of some kind seemed to constrict my neck, not letting me say a single word.
I could feel how truly powerless I was, how the fear made way through my entire body, grasping me with a sickening hug, making me tremble against my will, with my eyes firmly planted in his Eye, never to be able to look away, I was under his spell, and I was scared like never before.
I wish I couldn't have such an idiot at that time, maybe I wouldn't have been so reckless, that victory against Kaiba made me arrogant in how to treat with Pegasus, no, with an owner of a Millennium Item.
I could have died, only this time, I will know how.
I couldn't muster any strength and the more I fought the more the pressure seemed to increase, I thought that this torture would have lasted way longer, thangs God that what I said about the Items were true, using them takes a lot from the user.
In an instant the pressure disappeared and the entire place seemed to go back to normal, only with a tired an sweaty Pegasus in front of me, still glaring fiercely at me, I slowly stand up to my feet's "Duel Energy" I said, that was the secret of all of this, Duel Energy was necessary to revive Cecelia, if she were a Duel Spirit that's it, not even Z-One was able to trick death only to slow it down on himself.
The dead are forever gone, never to come back.
"Every single duelist, every time they Duel, release an unseen energy, called Duel Energy, which in contrast it's none other than the life force of both duelist" this was made clear during GX when Jaiden and co participated in the battle royale wearing wrist bands that absorbed their life force and send it to a heavily damaged Yubel, still, in the end Yubel came back to live, but still had to possess other bodies thanks to the abundant Duel Energy they produced, example: Jesse Anderson and his inherent connection with the Crystal Beast.
Well, Yubel wasn't exactly dead, but only having an arm as main body doesn't exactly scream that you are alive, don't you?
"Used correctly, can make miracles, even reviving the dead" I said while glaring at him, I know that what I said was mostly conjectures of mine, I didn't know if it was true or not, but I needed this much to make him not interested but to hang up in every word of mine, like a life line to his most inner desire, which in the end, was the love and yearning for his wife.
"Then, tell me how to get it!" he grabbed me, by the neck of my shirt and lifted me up, holy molly he was way stronger than he looked!
"I refuse!" my denial got him by surprise, he thought that by simple scaring me I would spill all the beans, yeah, fat chance, the bullies in high school were way worse, no, really, who says that they are only joking with you while armed with guns and knives, and waving them like if they were toys?! The youth in my time was doomed.
"One of the things that I, Asuto Kirihara, loves the most, is to tell someone who thinks is strong 'No'" while I quoted a certain meme phrase that will go down I history I released myself from his clutch, tenderly touching my neck, making sure that there wasn't any injury of some sorts.
Now he looked even more furious than before and still "But!" I shouted making him pause just a few steps away from me "I think I can concede the information, if you were to accept the following conditions that I prepared beforehand" he clenched his teeth's at my audacity, acting if were in control of the entire situation, I wasn't of course, but I was betting on the case that he was still tired from using in such a reckless manners his Eye.
"The rules are simple Pegasus, we will have two challenges, here and now" I said while pointing at the space around us "The first one will be a Duel, none of our souls will be used as payment if any of us were to lose, the second one, I will like to think that you would like it a lot" considering what I had prepared in my mind hopefully the second challenge will go as expected but first comes the Duel.
"And what will happen when you lose?" he said as if it was a fact that I wasn't going to win, as if! I only needed a monster in specific to destroy him, as well as to block his entire game, it wasn't a denier but the cost was just as good, especially with only 2000 LP in play.
"First, if I win you will owe me, three favors directly related to Duelist Kingdom, and you will swear on your, honor, pride, family name and above all the name of your deceased wife to not go against your word and much less about any of the favors" with each word I saw him glaring at me more and more, especially at the part of Cecelia name.
"If you win, I will give you everything, not only my deck, but my rarest cards, the information regarding Duel Energy and how to obtain it alongside the construction plans for the machinery necessary to resurrect you wife" his only eye, widened at my last words, making it clear that if he were to win against me not only he will have the knowledge to revive Cecelia but he will have too the information in how to utilize and refine the said energy through the machinery that can actually use it for its intended purpose, which obviously I didn't know how to build at all.
"As for the second challenge, it will be clear the Duel, so what you said Pegasus, do you accept?" I said while extending my hand to him in form of a handshake, a sign of gentlemanly and fair trade.
He looked at my extended hand for what felt like minutes, only by the moment I was going to take it back grasp it and shake it in sign of his own accordance, he wasn't going to escape from this, immediately I tightened my hand around him making him wince thanks to my peak human strength, "I haven't heard you swear on it Pegasus" a growl demanding his full acceptance of my terms was what he got from me.
He too tightened his hand around mine, but looking how I wasn't even faced he sighed and… "I, Maximillian Pegasus, known too as Pegasus J. Crawford; I swear on my name, my honor, my pride, my family name, and the name of my dearly beloved Cecelia Crawford that I will acquiesce to Asuto Kirihara three favors as long as he too honor his own side of the bet" this time his eye remained not fierce nor soft, but determined to get what he needed form me, sigh~; what love can make to a man.
Well, that boat sailed for me a long time ago; there will never be any like you Eva.
"And I, Asuto Kirihara, I swear on my name, my honor, my pride and my family name that I will uphold my side of the bet, so as long as, Maximillian Pegasus too honor his side of the bet" with a final handshake the Millennium Eye seemed to shine with a mystic light for a second, only for the tattoo of two different types of eye to appear in each of our hands.
Which I quickly recognized as the Eye of Horus in my right hand, the irony, and the Eye of Ra in Pegasus right hand.
It was the testament that a pact, no, a Geas has been formed between me and Pegasus, now both of us were obliged to uphold our side of the bet unless we want to face the consequences, and yes losing our lives were part of it.
With that said, we make way to our respective side of the board, and promptly sit down on empty air.
"After all of this is said and done, I will be closer to see my lovely Cecelia once again, so let's begin Asuto-boy~; ah! I almost forgot let's do this quick being the boss of a multinational company can be quite burdensome I say" he said reverting once again to his more eccentric personality, after that little stunt I wasn't going to treat him nicely anymore.
"I am going to pay you back, Pegasus, I hope you are ready to burn!" I growled at the end I wasn't going to be happy until he felt just like me moments ago.
"DUEL!"

AzhelianTheEternal Duel on the next chapter, not much to say besides trying to build the chapter the way i wanted it and being clubed by my final exams, alongside my cars and paying a fortune to repair them.
How anoying, still i was able to get this out from my head, and now comes the Duel and let me say, Pegasus its not going to enjoy it, like at all.
