Chapter 634: Hunting the Hidden Sage (Part 2)
When Hastur, in the Hall of Stars, guided the avatar of the Radiant Hunter into the real world, the avatar transformed into a flickering silver light upon landing. It took the form of an arrow, piercing through layers of spatial barriers.
Hastur used starlight as a guide, precisely directing the avatar to where the Hidden Sage was concealed.
The avatar moved with incredible speed, and just as the Hidden Sage was about to step into another space and vanish, the arrow pierced through the Sage's body.
The river of knowledge surged instantly, with endless knowledge transforming into droplets to shield the Hidden Sage's escape.
Without needing further guidance from Hastur, the Radiant Hunter shifted direction, again piercing through the layers of space in arrow form.
In the brief moment the Hidden Sage sensed the avatar and attempted to flee, the Hunter pierced through the Sage's body once more.
Though not fatal, this repeated assault instilled fear in the Hidden Sage.
The Sage could sense that the opponent's power was not yet at the full Sequence 0, but the opponent's speed was too fast, and they could accurately lock onto the Sage's position.
Each time the Sage tried to traverse space to escape, the opponent would swiftly pierce through the Sage's body, tearing it apart and destroying some of its extraordinary characteristics.
The only solution was to stay and defend, but the Sage couldn't remain in one place for too long, or else the stars would find them again.
The Hidden Sage tried several methods but couldn't evade the Radiant Hunter's pursuit. The Sage's body had been torn apart over a dozen times.
In the Hall of Stars, Hastur watched the Hidden Sage's plight with interest, observing the powers wielded by the Radiant Hunter.
Speed, precision, and ignoring defenses were the abilities the Radiant Hunter had already demonstrated.
Truly like an ultimate hunter, once a target is locked, the hunt is relentless and unending.
If not for the limited strength of the Radiant Hunter's avatar, the Hidden Sage might have already fallen.
The Hidden Sage seemed unskilled in direct combat, as they hadn't yet drawn their weapon.
For example, the Goddess of the Night habitually manifested a black scythe for attack, the Earth Mother wielded a wooden staff, and the God of Knowledge and Wisdom used their omniscient eye...
After being pierced again, the Hidden Sage finally stopped fleeing. Surrounding themselves with the river of knowledge, they cast beams of knowledge onto the peaks of mountains, towering trees, and winding rivers below.
Mountains rose to form a gigantic mountain giant, trees grew wildly, expanding a hundredfold, with a grotesque face appearing on the trunk. Branches as large as mountains waved, and rivers spiraled up, forming a water world around the Sage, with the river source revealing a human torso, legs fully merged into the river.
"The Hidden Sage is also a summoner?" Hastur watched with interest. Isn't this a mountain giant, an ancient war tree, and a water element?
Under Hastur's gaze, the Hidden Sage continued to cast beams of knowledge onto a flock of panicked eagles.
Under the infusion of knowledge and extraordinary power, they broke through racial limits, transforming into grotesque, griffin-like creatures made of flesh.
The Radiant Hunter, still in arrow form, traced a brilliant silver streak, piercing through the summoned creatures surrounding the Hidden Sage and once again pierced the Sage's body.
But this time, the river of knowledge within the Sage's body manifested two arms, tightly gripping the arrow-like Radiant Hunter.
The arms pressed forcefully, as if to tear the Hunter in two.
At this moment, the Radiant Hunter slipped away like a silver liquid through the Sage's fingers, transforming into a massive silver scythe. The scythe swung swiftly, precisely severing the Sage's head.
Seeing this, the Hidden Sage did not continue to fight. The river of knowledge enveloped their body and head, leaping through space once more.
The Radiant Hunter reverted to arrow form, continuing to pursue the Hidden Sage.
"You are forbidden to leave this place!"
A majestic voice rang out, as golden runes of order rose like giant pillars, forming a golden hall that trapped the Hidden Sage.
Russell, who had been waiting for an opportunity, finally bet on the correct direction of the Hidden Sage's escape.
Previously, the Sage's constant fleeing had prevented Russell from keeping up, let alone setting up a cage to trap the Sage.
The Hidden Sage fully merged into the river of knowledge, roaring as it crashed against the golden cage Russell had painstakingly set up.
After just two collisions, Russell's face showed difficulty in maintaining the cage.
At this moment, the Radiant Hunter pursued from behind, piercing from the tail to the head of the river of knowledge, splitting it in two!
The river of knowledge briefly stopped flowing, then quickly gathered again, slipping through the gap in the golden cage.
"Truly hard to kill!" Russell couldn't help but admire the Hidden Sage's tenacious vitality. From the beginning until now, the Sage had suffered at least twenty severe injuries but still had enough strength to break through Russell's order.
The Radiant Hunter did not stop, continuing to transform into an arrow, rapidly traversing space in pursuit.
"Sigh." Russell sighed and followed.
This time, they couldn't capture the Hidden Sage, and Hastur felt it was a pity.
Both Russell and the Radiant Hunter were not in good condition, otherwise, their cooperation could have prevented the Sage from escaping.
From dusk until deep into the night, the prepared Hidden Sage did not give Russell another chance to ambush.
Relying solely on the Radiant Hunter's repeated attacks was not enough to bring the Sage down in a short time.
Finally, the Hidden Sage, seemingly fleeing aimlessly, stopped once more.
This was on an island in the middle of the sea. Russell did not follow onto the island, wary of any traps left by the Fallen Mother Goddess.
The Radiant Hunter, fearless, traced a silver streak in pursuit.
On the island, the Hidden Sage looked solemnly at the approaching Radiant Hunter and said coldly, "Do you know what this place is?"
The Radiant Hunter did not respond, transforming into a silver stream, piercing the Sage's body again, then returning to strike the Sage once more as they recovered.
Wasting time talking was unwise.
A hunter only praises the beauty of the prey's pelt after killing it and standing over its corpse.
A sigh, as if from ancient times, echoed, and the once brilliant starry sky was swallowed by darkness again.
The previously vanished crimson moon emerged from the sea, several times larger than when it hung in the starry sky.
The lower half of the crimson moon was still submerged in the sea, revealing only a semicircular upper half, resembling an archway, a portal.
The island appeared as a small platform or a step leading to that portal in front of the crimson moon.
The Hidden Sage retreated to the sea, seemingly able to reach out and touch the crimson moon.
"Fallen Mother Goddess."
The Radiant Hunter paused its pursuit, gazing intently at the unusually large crimson moon.
"You should not stand with the stars."
An ancient, crazed voice emanated from the depths of the crimson moon, followed by red ripples. Eyes slowly formed within the moon, followed by a face.
Before the Radiant Hunter could respond, the face within the crimson moon exhaled.
The entire island, along with the surrounding sea for hundreds of miles, was obliterated, leaving not a trace.
The empty, sunken sea began to refill with water.
From afar, Russell, who had sensed something amiss and did not land on the island, saw the crimson moon on the sea shrink significantly.
"Should I go up?"
Russell looked up at the starry sky, still shrouded in darkness, with the stars' light yet to penetrate.
This place was still under the control of the Fallen Mother Goddess's power.
"Russell, you should return to my embrace." A voice echoed from deep within Russell.
Indeed, the consciousness of the Fallen Mother Goddess within him had not completely dissipated, merely suppressed by the power of the stars. If he got too close, the Goddess's consciousness would reawaken.
Russell remained vigilant and replied with a smile, "I have no intention of competing for favor with the Hidden Sage."
"Klein, the Fool, the new master of the Source Fortress... Russell, you continue to surprise me."
The Fallen Mother Goddess easily glimpsed Russell's recent experiences.
"Damn!"
Russell felt a chilling, haunting fear once more.
