Chapter 404: The Lucky Break of the Divine Abomination suah

Outside Trier City.

"Get off, we've arrived," Hastur said calmly, signaling Ulrich in the carriage that he could swiftly depart.

"Thank you," Ulrich said before stepping out of the carriage. He gazed at the unrestricted outskirts, feeling immensely relieved.

As Hastur was about to drive away, Ulrich hesitantly asked, "Can you tell me the name of the lady who saved me earlier?"

Hastur smiled and replied, "I'm afraid not. It would be impolite to disclose a lady's name without permission."

"If you want to know, you can return to Trier and ask her yourself."

Hearing this, Ulrich shook his head firmly. He had no leverage now, and returning to the city would surely result in his capture and execution at the stake.

"It's a pity you lack the courage to pursue a romantic interest so boldly," Hastur remarked as he drove off, leaving Ulrich with a complex expression.

"Even if I had such courage, she wouldn't be interested in someone like me anyway," Ulrich sighed. He took one last look at Trier, his home for over a decade, before setting off on his new journey.

Hastur didn't immediately return to the city with the carriage. Instead, he left it on a path in the outskirts and walked back to Trier alone.

Back at the inn, cattleya and Sharon had already returned and were quietly discussing something.

"Did you see him off?"  cattleya asked.

"Yes, the transaction is complete," Hastur nodded, sitting down at the tea table. He poured himself a cup and inquired about what had transpired in his absence.

Everything had gone according to plan. The Eye of the Eternal Sun had been eaten by a dog and then returned to the Eternal Sun Church.

If there were to be any developments, they would likely occur tonight.

However, before they received news of the Rose school of thought and the Eternal Sun Church taking action, they heard a newsboy outside shouting about the sudden assassination of a prominent figure in the Soren family.

"The Queen has made her move," cattleya said excitedly, rushing downstairs to buy three newspapers.

Hastur took one and began reading. It was an emergency edition, with the front page announcing the assassination of a Soren family dignitary.

After reading the news, Hastur glanced at the newspaper's name: "Intis Vanguard Evening News."

Indeed, it was at the vanguard, publishing this major event before other newspapers had even reacted, seemingly unconcerned about damaging the Soren family's reputation.

Perhaps Bernadette was behind this newspaper.

cattleya eyes sparkled with admiration as she read the front-page news multiple times, clearly thinking, "The Queen is so cool!"

Even Sharon read it once, then pointed to a small line in the article, saying, "She might be in trouble."

"Trouble?" cattleya leaned in closer, looking at where Sharon was pointing. It read: "The assassin was a mysterious lady."

cattleya quickly understood Sharon's meaning.

Given the Queen's immense power, she shouldn't need to personally appear to assassinate someone, let alone be seen.

She must have encountered some difficulty to leave such crucial information behind.

"You can't help her," Hastur said, dampening Galadriel's eagerness to rush to the Queen's aid.

cattleya fell silent for a moment, then smiled faintly. "I believe in the Queen."

Hastur glanced at cattleya, noting her true feelings betrayed by her eyes. He smiled and said, "I also believe no one in Trier can detain her."

He was confident Bernadette was safe. If she had encountered an unbeatable enemy, she would have sought help from the stars.

The fact that she hadn't meant her situation wasn't dire.

Most likely, she had been recognized during the assassination, which was why the newspaper specifically mentioned a "mysterious lady."

As night fell, commotion suddenly erupted at the Eternal Sun Church's temple. Church members who had just gone to bed were now up, carrying torches and searching everywhere.

Tonight, just moments ago, the temple had been burgled. The divine eye that had been returned earlier that day had been stolen after just one night.

This infuriated Bishop Moke, who was responsible for guarding the temple. He had to suppress his anger and anxiety, ordering people to search for any suspicious traces.

"Where is His Holiness the Pope?" someone asked.

"His Holiness left the church this afternoon," came the reply.

Bishop Moke cursed silently, wondering why Bernadette had to cause trouble today of all days, forcing His Holiness to deal with the matter personally.

...

"Why do you keep pursuing me?" Bernadette asked coldly, facing the Pope of the Eternal Sun Church high above the clouds of Trier.

If not for his sudden intervention, the Soren family would never have discovered her assassination attempt.

"I bear you no ill will," Ross Helice gestured for Bernadette to calm down as he gazed at the commotion below. "I'm merely waiting."

"Waiting for what?"

"For others to enter the game."

"Does this involve me?" Bernadette frowned.

"No, I'm just using your appearance to divert attention and give them an ideal opportunity to act."

"You're trying to lure out the hidden blasphemers?"

Ross Helice shook his head and smiled. "That's not quite accurate. We simply have different beliefs. They are equally devoted to their own faith."

"You're quite the old fox," Bernadette reassessed the elderly Pope. "You deliberately hindered me until today, giving me a chance to assassinate. Hah, the Soren family sees you as their savior in vain."

"It's a necessary sacrifice," Ross Helice's face remained expressionless, as if the death of the Soren family dignitary was as insignificant as an ant.

"Actually, I didn't need to go to such lengths initially, but someone seemed to see through this and deliberately returned the item to me. I had to go with the flow and change my plans at the last minute."

Ross Helice's cloudy eyes flashed with a sharpness that belied his age.

But he didn't seem angry about this. Instead, his words carried a hint of admiration.

"Is that round stone truly the eye left behind by the Eternal Sun?" Bernadette asked, focusing on the crucial point.

Ross Helice smiled and said, "Yes, it is indeed the eye of the god."

...

On this night in Trier, the city was once again in an uproar due to the theft of a sacred relic from the Eternal Sun Church's temple.

The only ones truly enjoying the night's tranquility were those hidden in darkness, operating underground.

"Lord suah, we have successfully accomplished our mission and stolen the eye of the god from the Eternal Sun Church's temple!"

"Well done," the Divine Abomination suah took the round stone they reverently presented. Even with a cursory glance, he could see the power within it that could incinerate mountains and boil seas.

This was indeed the eye of the Eternal Sun.

Once the newborn sun received this eye as nourishment, it would likely ascend to the heavens quickly, replacing the original Eternal Sun.

No wonder the Mother Goddess had specifically sent down a divine decree, instructing him to complete this task.

After confirming the value of this eye, the Divine Abomination suah carefully inquired about the details of tonight's theft.

This success had come too suddenly. He had been failing repeatedly lately and thought he would disappoint the Mother Goddess again, but unexpectedly succeeded smoothly this time.

As the saying goes, when things seem too good to be true, there's usually a catch.

He wasn't suspecting any tricks; he just didn't trust his own luck that much.

But he had confirmed that this round stone was indeed the eye left behind by the Eternal Sun.

Perhaps the Eternal Sun's luck was even worse than his own.

"Tonight, the Pope of the Eternal Sun Church was not in the church. He went to capture Bernadette, who had assassinated a dignitary of the Soren family. This gave us the opportunity..."

The Divine Abomination suah listened silently, a mocking smile playing on his lips.

Capturing Bernadette was no simple task; even he had failed several times.

Satisfied that there was nothing suspicious, the Divine Abomination suah brought the eye of the Eternal Sun before a large black tree.

The dense canopy of branches slowly parted, and rays of light began to emanate.

The golden newborn sun, which had been in deep slumber, finally awakened.

Light like that of a newborn sun illuminated the entire underground chamber, dispelling all darkness and shadows.

Compared to its initial state, this orb of light increasingly resembled a true sun.

"I have retrieved the item you required," the Divine Abomination suah said, levitating the eye of the Eternal Sun in midair.

Under the radiance of the newborn sun in the tree canopy, the tangible seal on the surface of the Eternal Sun's eye began to slowly peel away.

Soon, a miniature sun appeared in midair.

The two suns, one large and one small, caused even the Divine Abomination suah to squint, lest the light be too dazzling.
