Chapter 316: Mr. Fool: The Game Experience is Extremely Unfriendly

"Miss Sharon, are you sure you're playing a puppet and not a ghost?"

Hastur, who had just returned from the Hall of Stars, opened his eyes to meet Sharon's bright, clear eyes, which surprised him a bit.

Sharon just looked at him without speaking. Seeing that he was indeed fine, she slowly withdrew her gaze and turned to look out the window.

Just now, about twenty minutes ago, Hastur was holding Aisala, openly discussing in front of him how to interfere with his puppet performance. Suddenly, his expression changed slightly, saying he had something to deal with, placed Aisala on his shoulder, and returned to his room.

Feeling uneasy, she brought Aisala to Hastur's room, only to see Hastur sleeping soundly on the bed.

Although she didn't understand why, she quietly stayed there, preventing anyone from disturbing him.

Hastur lay on his side on the bed without getting up immediately. It wasn't until Aisala climbed onto the bed, trying to snuggle into his chest to sleep, that he picked her up, got out of bed, put on his shoes, and walked to Sharon's side.

"Recently, Maric has been writing to me, complaining that he wants to leave Backlund and come here. He even said he wants to become a navy captain."

Sharon didn't speak, still maintaining her puppet performance. Hastur, accustomed to her current state, continued, "I plan to go out to sea for a while to train the troops. There are quite a few pirates causing trouble around here. We need to establish some authority; otherwise, with the current turmoil, they might start attacking coastal fishing villages and ports. We need to scare them off first."

"The Red Glove team from the Church of the Evernight Goddesshas returned to Backlund. Only two people remain here, trying to investigate something. They might also investigate your matters."

"While I'm away, I'll leave this little one in your care. Give it no more than two small dried fish a day. A monotonous diet isn't good for its growth; it's best to add some vegetables."

"Meow?!"

Aisala, who had been listening obediently, immediately darted out of Hastur's arms upon hearing that her dried fish would be confiscated.

"Want to play a treasure hunt game?"

Sharon's eyes flickered slightly as she followed Hastur out of the room, both silently observing Aisala hiding her dried fish in various secret corners, worried about going hungry.

"When I'm not around, remember to confiscate them."

"Okay."

Sharon's eyes brightened slightly.

...

As May approached, the sea always brought waves of humid sea breeze. The sky rumbled with thunder, and countless raindrops fell from the sky like they couldn't bear the harsh scolding.

The heavy rain disrupted the usually dusty ground, turning the roads muddy and making many people prefer to stay indoors.

After being drenched in the rain for half a day, Crestet Cesimir and Klein finally returned to their rented house, their pant legs covered in mud.

Seeing each other's drenched and disheveled appearance, they smiled knowingly, changed into clean, fresh clothes, and went to an empty study room, closing the doors and windows to prevent eavesdropping.

"How's your progress?"

"Much more troublesome than expected."

"Same here."

Crestet Cesimir and Klein exchanged glances and fell silent.

They had initially thought they could find the correct answer through the process of elimination, but the process was far more complicated than expected.

The list of people to investigate included thirty-five names. Excluding Earl Hastur Campbell, thirty-four remained, and they were each responsible for investigating seventeen.

Half a week had passed, yet they had only investigated three people each.

Each person on the list had a rich and colorful history, with many suspicious aspects, requiring thorough investigation. After days of investigation, they often found it was just a minor issue.

Klein felt like he was playing a game where the author had deliberately filled it with seemingly useful but ultimately useless content to extend the player's time to defeat the final boss.

For instance, the first person he investigated was said to be a cult follower, behaving unusually. When Ince Zangwill arrived at Puning Port, this person conveniently disappeared, prompting his family to report him missing.

The second was a captain of a deep-sea fishing boat who returned from the sea when Ince Zangwill arrived. He supposedly brought back a precious treasure from the ocean depths, mesmerizing anyone who saw it.

Both individuals had suspicious aspects, necessitating thorough investigation. The first turned out to be a member of a mysterious organization, but not an evil extraordinary group, just a "Wildlife Reproduction Support Organization." He had coincidentally gone to the mountains to observe wildlife reproduction during his disappearance.

The second person's mysterious treasure was neither a sealed item nor an extraordinary object with unusual powers, just a slightly larger-than-usual pink pearl. Klein even took a few extra glances at it, finding it quite attractive.

The third person he was investigating was a foreigner with an unclear background who had clashed with Viscount Stedan, even publicly threatening to use some mysterious power to kill him. Based on Klein's current progress, this mysterious power was likely something like a voodoo doll.

But without completing the investigation, he couldn't entirely rule out their suspicions.

The first few were relatively easy to investigate. Many others had left Puning Port, requiring more time to track down.

Overall, the game experience was very unfriendly.

Klein poured a cup of hot tea for Crestet Cesimir, who was resting on the sofa, and asked, "What did the church say?"

Crestet Cesimir opened his eyes, rubbed the corners lightly, took a sip of the hot tea, and slowly said, "They told us to act as we see fit, not to rush, prioritize safety. Unless there's a significant discovery, the church won't send more people. Extraordinary incidents are frequent in many places, and manpower is needed."

Klein remained silent. The church's attitude indicated they didn't want to use force unless the threat was significant.

Looking at Puning Port's thriving state, everything seemed normal.

Crestet Cesimir glanced at him, "The church is also helpless in such matters. They can't use all their resources for investigations, nor can they solve every problem perfectly. As long as there's no major trouble, they can turn a blind eye."

Klein asked puzzledly, "Isn't the importance of Sealed Item 008 enough to warrant the church's attention?"

Crestet Cesimir sighed, placing the hot tea on his knee, and smiled bitterly, "Do you know the rank of Lady Illya, the Eye of the Goddess, who led Leonard and the others to investigate this matter last time?"

Klein shook his head, not knowing much about Lady Illya.

"Sequence 3, Fear Bishop."

Klein's mouth opened, but he said nothing, silently drinking his tea.

He felt the game experience was even more unfriendly.

If a Sequence 3 couldn't solve the problem, what could they do? Even if they found the final boss, they couldn't defeat it and might be crushed at any moment.

How could they play this broken game if the boss wasn't nerfed?

...

Above the gray fog, the weekly Tarot meeting convened again.

Sitting at the head, Klein looked around at the Tarot members, feeling quite good.

Only here, appearing as Mr. Fool, could he enjoy a complete and comfortable game experience.

After reading the single page of Roselle's diary, Klein glanced at Miss Justice, who seemed evasive.

If he remembered correctly, Miss Justice had only submitted one page of Roselle's diary in the past three weeks, a severely insufficient output.

Although her previous submissions were heavily diluted, they were at least plentiful. Reading them always yielded some insights.

But now, there wasn't even an opportunity for entertainment.

However, as Mr. Fool, he couldn't scold Miss Justice for such a matter, so he just gave her a look, hoping she would understand.

Ah, Mr. Fool is blaming me for not submitting Roselle's diary recently?

Miss Justice felt a bit panicked under Mr. Fool's special gaze.

It wasn't that she didn't want to submit Roselle's diary; she just hadn't found any new ones lately.

Mr. Hastur was now far away in Southern Wilshire, and she felt embarrassed to bother him for this.

To avoid exposing her identity, she couldn't quietly commission Hugh and Fors to help collect them and had to search alone.

After reading Roselle's diary, it was time for free trading and conversation.

Little Sun continued to recount his experiences and gains in that dilapidated temple, then started arguing with the obviously less intelligent Mr. Moon.

The others turned into onlookers, occasionally throwing out topics to keep their argument going.

One had the historical heritage of Silver City, the other was a long-lived vampire family. Their descriptions of historical stories and myths always provided the onlookers with plenty of insights.

When their argument was almost over, the others would change the subject.

Mr. Fool didn't mind this blatant wool-gathering and found it quite good.

He also enjoyed listening to Little Sun's tales of distant historical secrets.
