Chapter 124: A Pair of Eyes Peering into the World

On the carriage ride back to the Queens district, Hastur laid his cane across his knees, tapping it lightly with his fingers. He felt that tonight's actions were somewhat risky.

He didn't believe that Hugh and Firth would speak of tonight's events, but some deeds, once done, leave traces.

He had considered having Bernadette come to preach and guide Firth into the Stars, but Bernadette was currently preoccupied with the affairs of the High-Dimensional Overseers and couldn't spare the time, leaving Hastur no choice but to step in personally.

"After returning, I'll forge a book, jumbling the spells of the Stars within. If it catches someone's attention later, I'll use it as an excuse."

Hastur made up his mind, glancing at the window veiled by the carriage curtain, yet he chose not to open it for air.

He didn't want to catch sight of someone he'd rather not see.

The carriage continued on its way, and Hastur suddenly spoke, "First, go to Viscount Grelent's house; I've just remembered something that needs to be dealt with."

"As you command," replied the coachman.

The carriage turned in a new direction, not returning to Queens that night.

"The target has left the building!"

"Do we need to intercept?"

"Not for now, just follow from a distance."

"The target has boarded a carriage, judging by the direction, he seems to be heading to Queens."

"Let our men follow in another carriage."

"Remember, do not act rashly, wait for orders!"

The Punisher Squad stationed below Chief Reed's building sprang into action.

In the carriage, Chief Reed played with the baby lying in his spouse's arms, amused by pulling the baby's finger from his mouth and watching him suck it back in, repeating the action tirelessly.

"Is Baron Campbell at home today?"

"Possibly, he's been out for several days; by my calculations, he should be returning soon."

Chief Reed thought for a moment and smiled, "It's fine if he's not home; we just took our little one out for a stroll. Thankfully, the sun hasn't been too hot these days, and the breeze is quite pleasant."

"Isn't everything in Queens quite expensive?"

"Don't worry, we're only buying some small toys; it won't cost much."

The carriage moved slowly, soon arriving in Queens, where Hastur resided.

Chief Reed asked his spouse and child to wait in the carriage while he straightened his clothes, ensuring nothing was amiss, before stepping down to visit.

He was quickly informed that Hastur was not at home and might take several days to return.

Chief Reed felt regret but didn't insist on anything, merely asking the servant guarding the gate to convey a few messages.

Back in the carriage, Chief Reed chuckled, "Unfortunately, Baron Campbell hasn't been home lately; he might have returned to his own domain."

"What about our child's name?"

"We can give him a nickname for now and choose a formal name later."

"That's a good idea; I've been thinking about this and have come up with quite a few nice names."

Chief Reed laughed, "So have I."

The carriage turned a corner, heading towards the bustling commercial streets of Queens.

It wasn't until after five in the evening that the carriage returned from Queens.

After disembarking, Chief Reed carefully carried the sleeping child, accompanied by his spouse, upstairs to their home.

As soon as he opened the front door, a strange figure sat on the sofa in the living room.

Chief Reed approached to get a closer look but found the figure's face shrouded in mist, unclear and indistinct.

Just as he was about to greet the figure, he suddenly realized that the child in his arms had vanished!

He wanted to shout, but no words came out; a fog seemed to rise around him, his consciousness blurring, and then he fell asleep.

Chief Reed's spouse also succumbed to sleep.

In the real world's living room, the baby opened his clear black and white eyes, curiously observing the figure on the sofa, not frightened at all.

"The storm will punish all evil!"

With a loud shout from the figure, countless golden lightning patterns appeared on the walls, transforming into whips of lightning that lashed out.

The floor cracked open, revealing numerous gears, layer upon layer, forming a powerful binding force!

The baby stood still, a rare anger flickering in his beautiful eyes.

With a cry, the surrounding space shattered, the golden lightning whips dispersed into points of light, and the floor was turned upside down.

His tiny, tender fingers pointed in the air, and the space around him shifted several times.

The Punishers lurking outside the house fell silently, one by one.

They bore no wounds, yet all life had left them, their fragile minds plucked away in an instant.

In front of the baby, their brains lay exposed, unprotected by skull and head, touchable with an outstretched hand, easily shattered with a slight force.

The finger also pointed at the figure on the sofa, but to no effect, as the figure's brain was surrounded by a golden electric ring.

It would take some effort to break through.

Alas, he was but a baby, his fingers not yet strong enough, managing only to lightly flick the golden electric ring.

The ring wobbled, and the figure was flung away.

At that moment, hundreds of dark green pea vines descended from the sky, and on the ground, the vines grew lushly, quickly imprisoning the baby within a cage of vines.

High above the house, a storm gathered, the dark clouds as thick as ink that couldn't be dispersed.

The long-brewing lightning finally struck down with a destructive force!

Inside the house, the baby's eyes grew serious. He took a small step within the cage, then appeared outside of it.

At that moment, the surrounding space solidified, and a small iron cage in the shape of an inverted pyramid pressed down!

The tip of the pyramid faced upward, its square base firmly atop the baby's head, and the lightning from above struck the pyramid's tip, surging through the pyramid, amplifying towards the world around the baby!

Silver-white lightning raged wildly, the dazzling light of the thunder illuminating the surroundings like a sea of lightning.

The baby suffered an unprecedented blow, crying out as the space around him inverted and shifted, cutting everyone within range into countless slices, dying silently and painlessly.

Not just people, but everything within range.

Pea vines, the inverted pyramid, buildings, trees, even the streets below, a stray cat leaping after a butterfly, a sprout just emerging from the ground.

Everything was divided!

"Sleep now, rest now, you need to sleep, a long, deep sleep."

A gentle voice sounded, and the baby's eyelids grew heavy, unable to resist the profound weariness from deep within his soul.

He was still a baby; he needed sleep, a long sleep.

Finally, the baby's eyelids closed, his breathing steady, and the surrounding space returned to normal in an instant.

From the depths of the sky, the accumulated thunder poured down furiously upon the baby!

But most of the lightning, as it neared the baby, was automatically redirected to different spaces.

At that moment, lightning streaked across Beckland!

Pedestrians walking on the road were struck by lightning, reduced to ashes.

A family gathered for a meal was hit by lightning in their room, sparking a large fire.

A steam train in motion was struck by several bolts of lightning, its metal skin pierced, exploding into pieces!

Birds flying over Beckland fell from the sky like raindrops.

At that moment, fires broke out in multiple areas of Beckland.

Fortunately, the dark clouds overhead soon brought heavy rain, effectively suppressing the spread of the fires.

The baby, struck again, his tender white skin now charred black, his body cracked with hundreds of fine lightning fissures.

Despite the severe injuries, not a drop of blood flowed, and his eyes showed no panic or tension, only calm.

He did not strike again but instead chose to explode his body, which was on the verge of collapse, leaving behind only a pair of eyes glowing with white light, like white crystals, floating in the air.

Those eyes quietly scanned the surroundings, their gaze seemingly piercing through the entire world.

At that moment, every living being felt an odd sensation of being watched.

Soon, the white-glowing eyes merged into the depths of space and vanished.

No matter how the thunder cleansed the nearby spaces, it could not find or destroy those eyes.

In the end, all settled, and the dark clouds still shrouded Beckland, accompanied by a fierce wind, bringing a storm to cleanse all impurities.

At the Grelent residence.

Hastur looked out the window at the sky, aware that Bernadette had joined forces with the Storm Church to take action.

Even the Church of the everNight Goddess, and the Church of god of Steam and Machinery might have members involved in this battle.

"Hastur, don't you think this rain is a bit odd?"

Beside him, Grelent's face still bore intense fear.

Just moments ago, Grelent was nearly struck by a bolt of lightning that appeared out of nowhere.

Fortunately, the lightning merely grazed over his head, missing him.

The only damage he suffered was to his hair.

"Indeed, something's not right, but it's passed now."

Hastur replied with a smile, then informed Grelent that he was leaving.

He had rested here for a night, and with the High-Dimensional Overseer matter temporarily resolved, it was time for him to return.
