Chapter 94: Conversation

Alice's unusual attitude made Klein sense that something was wrong. He put aside other thoughts and asked, "You said you met Bernadette... What happened?"

"Well... First of all, you might have gained another demigod follower," Alice pondered before speaking.

Klein realized he had relaxed too soon.

Seeing Klein's expression, Alice sighed and began to recount the events from the beginning:

"It went like this... I met Bernadette, a demigod, in the 'Warmth of Roselle' exhibition hall.

"Then, well, she discovered me and asked me some questions related to Emperor Roselle...

"I couldn't possibly bargain with a demigod, so I told her... We come from another civilization, and Emperor Roselle is considered our predecessor. Currently, the leader of our group is 'The Fool'..."

Mr. Fool felt the urge to facepalm again. Fortunately, there was no one else around, so he could do so freely and then asked, "And then? Why did you say we can't go back?"

Alice frowned and said, "I told Bernadette some things about modern Earth, but...

"When we talked about the 'Internet,' the Hidden Sage suddenly cast his gaze upon us."

"The Hidden Sage?" Klein asked in surprise, "Why would he cast his gaze? Is he interested in the 'Internet'? Oh, right, this way he wouldn't have to chase after followers to impart knowledge; he could just put it online..."

"It's not just that," Alice shook her head. "Bernadette told me that only real, extremely secret knowledge would attract the Hidden Sage's gaze."

"Only real, extremely secret knowledge would attract the Hidden Sage's gaze?" Klein repeated, keenly sensing a truth he was reluctant to face, and his expression gradually became serious.

"In other words, there indeed was a period of Earth civilization on this planet, which has now vanished from history," Alice revealed. "Tell me, how could there be such a coincidence? The same twelve months in a year, 365 days, 24 hours in a day... How could there be such a coincidence?"

Klein opened his mouth but couldn't speak. Indeed, how could there be such a coincidence? If this planet once had a vanished civilization... Klein pressed down on the table, grasping at the last bit of hope, and asked, "But Earth's moon isn't red! The starry sky here is also different from Earth's!"

Alice pressed her lips together and responded, "But Earth doesn't have supernatural powers or gods either."

Klein closed his mouth.

Neither he nor Alice wanted to admit this, because once they did, it meant they could never go back.

Unfortunately, some things can't be changed just because they refuse to acknowledge them.

In comparison, Alice at least had a glimmer of hope—maybe she really was just transported into a book?

However...

Thinking of Shen Yinghuan's luck, Alice realized that even if she had transformed from Shen Yinghuan into a character in a book, she probably couldn't go back.

Moreover, even if she could go back, what good would it do? If she couldn't control her fate, she would only bring disaster to those around her.

"If that's the case... then what's the point of my efforts to ascend?" Klein asked blankly after a long silence.

"Do you think you have a choice?" Alice looked at Klein in surprise. "I even suspect that the 'Seer' potion didn't fall directly into your mouth only because you were very diligent from the start."

"..." Klein looked at the magnificent palace and fell silent.

Alice, who had swallowed the "Lucky One" potion in a daze, had no choice. Did he have a choice?

It seemed like he chose the "Seer" path himself, but thinking of this mysterious palace, Antigonus's notebook, and the Law of Aggregation of Extraordinary Characteristics, Klein was unsure.

"Taking the potion yourself and striving to ascend is better than waiting for fate to force the potion down your throat, right?" Alice concluded.

"Yes," Klein looked at Alice and suddenly remembered an untimely joke, "You should have such an understanding, after all, your Sequence 1 potion is already prepared."

"...It should be the Sequence 0 potion," Alice corrected quietly.

"Hmm?" Klein straightened up. "What did you discover?"

"The 'Fate' pathway's 'Blasphemy Slate' is in Bernadette's hands," Alice spread her hands. "She told me that the Sequence 0 potion ingredients are the Sequence 1 Extraordinary characteristics and the uniqueness of the corresponding pathway."

"Uniqueness?" Klein repeated the term, instinctively glancing at the magnificent palace. "What is uniqueness?"

"I don't know," Alice admitted frankly. "After all, I'm only Sequence 7."

Not wanting to be controlled by the potion, Klein pondered for a moment and asked, "Did you talk about anything else with Bernadette?"

"She gave me the summoning ritual for her messenger, does that count?" Alice raised an eyebrow. "As for other things... uh, she said she doesn't have the habit of praying to strange evil gods."

Klein, the strange evil god, Moretti, fell into deep thought.

After a few seconds, Klein suddenly thought of a question: "In that case... wouldn't it be very dangerous if I went to the exhibition hall to steal that 'Blasphemy Slate'?"

"Are you sure there's a 'Blasphemy Slate' in there?" Alice blinked.

"Assuming, just assuming," Klein glared at the suddenly excited Alice.

Alice sat back down in disappointment and muttered, "Tch... I was going to suggest you set a big fire inside, and whatever doesn't burn would be the 'Blasphemy Slate'..."

Klein pondered for two seconds before saying, "If you plan to suggest that, you should first not tell me there's a demigod inside."

"I'll keep that in mind next time," Alice nodded earnestly.

Klein decided to admit defeat in this smoke-free battle and changed the topic: "I plan to have 'Justice' confirm whether there's really a 'Blasphemy Slate' inside. Her identity is most suitable."

"So, you're really not considering setting a fire..." Alice was still reluctant to give up her initial idea.

After a few seconds of silence, Alice was kicked out of the gray fog by the unplayable Mr. Fool and returned to the real world.

Alice pouted, stood up, and forcefully shoved the chair under the desk, preparing to go find something to eat.
