Chapter 2: The Lucky One!

Time is a relative concept; three years may not seem long to some, yet for others, it can feel like an eternity—like for Alice, who had been studying for three years.

This dedicated life of study seemed to resonate with the memories of "Huanhuan," yet Alice still couldn't recall most of her life as Huanhuan—what was her name? What kind of family and friends did she have? What did she like or dislike? What kind of person was she?

These experiential memories seemed to have vanished from Alice's mind, and even Beyonder means couldn't bring them back.

But Alice did remember many special things.

In her memory, "Huanhuan" lived in a place completely different from here. Whether it was the cars she initially saw in the images or the many modern high-tech products she recalled later, they seemed to be absent here—including the adjectives "modern" and "high-tech," which appeared with her vague memories.

Through "Huanhuan's" profound impressions of classes, homework, and exams, Alice realized that these were likely the main components of "Huanhuan's" life—she was a student.

The girl who appeared in the fog seemed to be "Huanhuan's" very good friend. It was certain that not all memories of that girl had disappeared, but Alice was unclear to what extent they remained. As she gradually learned common knowledge and mystical studies, Alice realized that the slight pain was actually a spiritual warning.

Setting aside everything about "Huanhuan," the original owner's memories of this body were completely traceless—as if the body was an empty shell prepared specifically for her.

This thought startled Alice, but she resisted delving deeper into this issue without reason.

What Alice came to understand about this body ultimately came from the dossier.

A few people who knew this girl called her Alice—perhaps that wasn't her name, maybe she had a surname, but no one cared, so no one knew.

Three years ago, she was probably only twelve or thirteen, or a malnourished fourteen or fifteen—the exact age was unclear because no one knew for sure. However, Alice guessed it was the former, as even in a well-nourished environment, she had only just begun to develop.

She survived by begging, stealing, and scavenging, and occasionally, when lucky, a kind-hearted person would hire her to run errands—this was the life of most street children in the city.

It's worth mentioning that once her matted, dark hair was washed, the mud and dust on her face wiped away, and she was dressed in clean clothes, the girl actually had a rather pretty face.

Not a stunning beauty, but she had brilliantly golden hair and pure blue eyes, colors so bright they seemed out of place for a street child.

But that face, hidden under mud and dust, brought a subtle sense of familiarity to Alice—perhaps it was from "Huanhuan"?

Yes, Alice still had reservations about whether she was "Huanhuan." Instead, she preferred the name "Alice Kingsleigh," which she had blurted out at that time.

Of course, the dossier contained more than just this. Alice also learned about her case.

The man she saw, who fell in terror, was an unlucky Lucky One—after all, who had ever heard of a Sequence 7 Beyonder dying in such a way, right?

Yet, that's exactly how the drama unfolded, as if fate played a joke on him. He smoothly became an Beyonder, reached Sequence 7 without major setbacks or joys, and then suddenly died one night.

Then, a passing street girl picked up his Beyonder characteristic and became the new Lucky One.

If his Beyonder characteristic was a gift prepared by fate for that girl, then he was probably the delivery man.

But Alice had no choice—since she had already accepted the gift, all she could do was wait for the day when fate would come to collect its price.

Yes, Alice preferred to describe the Beyonder characteristic that way because the officers, or rather the Nightwatchers, told her they had reported to Beckland. The people Beckland sent conducted a comprehensive examination and concluded that she was even more normal than a regular Beyonder who had advanced.

The details about her Sequence's Pathway, potions, and characteristics came from the spirit communication and divination of that delivery man—I mean, the Lucky One.

Abilities of Sequence 9: Monster:

High Spiritual Perception: Beyonders of this pathway possess super high spiritual perception. They often hear sounds that others cannot hear and see things that remain hidden to most. This heightened sensitivity allows them to occasionally glimpse the future and have an acute intuition for danger2.Spiritual Maelstrom: Their connection to the Spirit World leads to the evolution of their Spirit Bodies. These bodies appear as a maelstrom purely made of spirituality, known as the Spiritual Maelstrom. Within this maelstrom, their Astral Projections, Bodies of Hearts and Minds, and Ether Bodies undergo unique transformations. The Spiritual Maelstrom grants them the ability to:See Beyond: By slightly grazing the barrier of the Spirit World, they can perceive things even pathways with strong Spirit Vision abilities cannot see.Whispered Insights: As the maelstrom becomes unstable, it occasionally pricks through the Spirit World, granting them supernatural information. However, this also forces them to whisper these insights, leading others to consider them as "monsters."Glimpses of the Future: At its most intense stage, the Spiritual Maelstrom directly cuts through the Spirit World, allowing them to glimpse the future2.Emotional Sensitivity: Their emotions and senses (sight, smell, etc.) gradually overload depending on the stage of the Spiritual Maelstrom. They may jump in excitement, fall into unconsciousness, or experience intense humiliation.

Sequence 8: Machine:

Terrifying Computational Abilities: Beyonders of this pathway possess exceptional computational skills. They can process information rapidly, analyze complex data, and solve intricate problems. Their minds function like well-oiled machines, allowing them to manipulate information and patterns with ease.Precise Control: Sequence 8 Beyonders exhibit remarkable precision and control over their actions. Whether it's fine-tuning machinery, executing combat maneuvers, or aiming a weapon, their movements are precise and efficient.Enhanced Physical Attributes: Consuming the potion formulas enhances their physical capabilities. They become naturally adept in fields like combat, shooting, and physical activities. Their strength, agility, and endurance are significantly boosted.Divination and Counter-Divine Abilities:Divination: Sequence 8 Beyonders can peer into the future to gain glimpses of upcoming events. Their computational minds allow them to analyze patterns and probabilities, providing insights into potential outcomes.Counter-Divine: When faced with supernatural or divine forces, they have the ability to counteract or neutralize them. Whether it's warding off curses, dispelling enchantments, or resisting mind control, their precise control over their abilities allows them to defy mystical influences.

Sequence 7 Lucky One, true to its name, the Lucky One receives unusual luck, but it's uncontrollable, passive, and fluctuates in intensity—sometimes powerful, sometimes like an ordinary person.

As for what followed… letting Alice go back to being a street child was clearly impossible.

Alice was left in Tingen City, temporarily residing in a church—convenient for observation, given her special circumstances.

Considering her age and the vast gaps in her knowledge, she was nominally taken into the Tingen City Nightwatcher squad, but in reality… you can't expect a child who hasn't fully learned to read to go out on missions, right?

In fact, Alice didn't just refrain from missions; she hardly ever visited the Nightwatcher headquarters again. Her daily life was arranged quite tightly—referring to language and various basic courses of study.

This was partly to supplement Alice's lack of common knowledge and partly to isolate her from the Beyonder world for a while to observe her situation.

And Alice… well, Alice quickly adapted to this life of study, even feeling that the time spent studying wasn't long enough… she always felt like she should be studying for over ten hours a day to be correct.

"So, what kind of life did Huanhuan lead before? Doesn't she sleep?!"

After realizing this thought, Alice fell into deep contemplation about this question… after all, she really couldn't understand how someone could study for over ten hours a day.
