章 10: Face to Face with Danger
Fenrir prepared a plan in which the ten knights, together with him and Kalishar, had to coordinate their attacks so that one-half would attack the alphas from below to catch their attention completely. The six of them were to make sure to catch all the possible eyes and hatreds of those insects so that they would not notice the other six above them would act. Despite the surprise factor, the man insisted that the six people attacking above were to assume that the zerbarix would notice them and that it was better to fight, figuring there was only a one percent chance of winning. However the more they listened to the crazy plan, the more they realized that one percent was the most they could have.
Kalishar added to Fenrir's plan that if possible, first eliminate the four zerbarix with scars in the shape of an X on their foreheads, they would be the easiest ones compared to the one with a golden forehead. Fenrir asked the reason for the suggestion. The girl answered that those four with their blood would alter the senses of the last alpha, this one had a control problem due to the scent of her sisters' blood and was the most violent, if they all managed to eliminate the four, they would cause a great advantage. However, that would mean that they would have to shorten the time of the fight because they would attract the others by detecting the scent and the obvious imbalance of power within the nest. Approximately five to seven minutes at the most they would have.
This would be a crazy task for that group, Fenrir said as a joke that while Kalishar checked the terrain, they should all make peace with their souls because if the plan went well, the amount of dead would be nothing more than an acceptable minimum although he could not guarantee if that would be twenty or thirty corpses of them.
"Remember to do things right, but if you feel it's too much for you, go outside.", the captain advised the girl.
"I have to do what he says?", Kalishar asked looking at Fenrir.
"I think that's the best advice I've ever heard, I mean, I wasn't planning on telling you that." He is observed by all. "I don't mean it out of malice, I just couldn't think of what to say!"
Kalishar goes down to the nest and the first thing that greets her is a series of needles, which she avoids and with her scarf redirects them toward the zerbarix that had shot it. Those insects knowing that the attack was their poison did not bother to evade, but Kalishar had left pieces of her skin in the needles through the scarf that exploded with the temperature difference. The insects that had attacked her went into flames and ran suffering, she lengthened her scarf cutting the creatures off so they wouldn't make noise and give her away.
"Phew, pesky inferior pests.", Kalishar said revealing her zerbarix eyes with cross-shaped irises. "I will not miss this opportunity to go out and create my own colony and have my home with all the food I can eat with my offspring."
She runs towards the direction where the attack where she rescued Fenrir had occurred, while she goes, she takes the opportunity to eliminate some hidden threats to ensure the success of the plan. The girl reveals a monstrous nose to better pick up the smells, she switches her ears in the same way to listen to the sounds.
"Damn living meats!"
"Meat! Meat!"
"Where are the alphas?"
As the girl picked up the signal, she noticed that the four alphas with the X on their foreheads were nearby, but there was no sign of the last one. The girl thought about what possibility of being able to attract the last one, but she could not pick up the presence of the last one. Still, with the organs and blood of those four, they should attract the last zerbarix.
"Now, how do I use these things?" The girl looks at her smoke bomb launchers. "Why didn't I ask what you do with these things?"
The girl opened her mouth with her sharp fangs, and every time she had a problem she only solved it with bites, when she noticed that her mouth was too small, she got even angry opening it in an irregular way for a human being, when biting it explodes in her face dazing her a little.
She could not see, hear, or smell well, that had been a bad situation on her part. The girl's mistake had alerted the four alphas to her presence who noticed even the scent of her, recognizing that she was a zerbarix who had recently acquired the title of an alpha because of her inferior strength compared to them.
"Dominant sister! She's an inferior dominant sister!"
"Rare living flesh appearance!"
"New adaptation, different nature than ours?!"
"Grrr, it hurts jaw." said a pained Kalishar.
The four alphas approached to impress in a better way the fifth alpha that looked like the pile of meat that they accumulated to tempt the lower zerbarix and make it their food. Out of curiosity, they smelled it, it was noticeable that it had various scents of the other species' flesh, but not mixed with the stench of death.
"Answers!"
"What annoying sisters."
Kalishar uses his leash-like tail to again attempt to use another smoke bomb to get the attention of his group and take this opportunity to kill the four alphas, it was better than nothing by that point.
A new explosion occurs in the direction of the exit, the girl smiles at succeeding despite how complicated the task was for her. The zerbarix recognized that that had been the product of a tool of the flesh they killed, they get angry sensing a sign of threat, Kalishar when she finally regains her vision takes a big leap and moved her scarves to turn into a steel ball to defend herself from the attacks of her dominant sisters.
"Protection! Break their protection!" shouted the alphas.
A strong flash appears blinding the alphas and in a second Fenrir appears attacking the eyes as fast as he could with his gloves.
"For a second there I thought I had sent you to the slaughter for nothing!" he shouted at the girl.
"Fenrir watch out, his eyes aren't in his face!" she shouted.
"What did you say?!"
Fenrir looks sideways at his right man and sees that the zerbarix that opened their mouths had what looked like eyeballs in that area. The man realized he had no way to move without a surface, he was at the mercy of his enemies, but he still prepared an attack. Kalishar grabs Fenriry with his scarf and moves him out of the maw.
"Here!"
Kalishar passed him again her skin-like scales that detonated with the other's temperature, she adjusted them so they didn't react with Fenrir's temperature and disguised them as black scales.
"You can use them to explode the alphas, it reacts with their temperature!" she shouted as she attacked two of the alphas from above.
The man reacts and throws the scales, but the alphas anticipate his attack and evade the scales to extend their jaws to eat him. The man opens his eyes to see the emptiness through the mouth of that monstrous creature.
"I won't let you eat that cute idiot!"
The elf attacks with an arrow enchanted with a fire spell and a lightning spell towards the alpha. Thanks to the attack, Fenrir holds between his teeth uses his special gloves and boots, and breaks the jaw of the creature, who lets out a terrible shriek.
"Sister wounded, sister suffering to eat!"
"More than one meat, meat not zerbarix present!"
"Remove the hindrances!"
"Those things again, and their annoying sound!" Fenrir complained.
"Those damn things are getting ready to attack the others!" shouted Kalishar to his companion.
The man reacts to his companion's shout, using the relics that created lightning and the boots to move fast, he positions himself at the right moment in front of the zerbarix that had prepared to attack the group, Fenrir took that opportunity to shoot an electric claw that caused the creature to explode.
"One down."
The knights were impressed to see how that wretched thief had managed the feat of eliminating an alpha with no problem. Fenrir had learned very well how to fight a zerbarix, his best moment was when these things opened their mouths, they were slow and very vulnerable with those flammable organs, he only had to wait for the opportunity, and with his two relics, he would be in the exact place and time to kill them.
The other three alphas noticed the human's move, realizing that he had discovered one of their weak points; despite that, they would not let themselves be subdued. They began to blink in a strange way that Fenrir again recognized was communicating through blinking.
"Up!" shouted Kalishar.
"Uh!?"
The two alpha zerbarix revealed grasshopper-style legs and began to jump from one side to the other. On the other side, the middle zerbarix lunges at Kalishar who was distracted by the others to lunge with a headbutt that had spikes that reacted with her electrocuting her in midair.
"The girl!"
Two knights went to Kalishar's aid as they were backed up by the others to attack the leaping zerbarix.
"Shit! A poison that can affect me, I guess root of evolution after facing several sisters." Thought the girl.
The girl notices how the two knights went to her aid, she was yelling for them not to do such foolishness when there were two zerbarix jumping around the area. Tryfon and Tuck being good with the defensive, used their best shields reinforcing them with protection spells against non-magical projectiles. Fenrir propels himself at high speed against a zerbarix, but the one that invited Kalishar jumps fast as he does.
"Get away from him!"
Ahori fires several arrows along with three more archers. The zerbarix manages to evade the pesky projectiles, she had already fought off the arrows enough to avoid the attacks.
"You don't need to help me, fight or defend yourself!" the girl demanded.
"This fight is already a lost cause in itself, but if I'm going to die, I'd rather save someone.", Tryforn replied.
"Here they come!" Tuck points out as he sees his enemies close behind.
"We've had experience of this. Now!"
Martin and Urungi being mountain orcs with exceptional strength pull the ropes that were tied to the two knights away from danger. The archers took it upon themselves to charge towards the eyes hoping to distract the insects enough.
"Everything is pretty good, too good to be true. But we are still far from winning."
Fenrir launches his electric claw again, but the zerbarix reacts by placing its head. The man realizes that there is resistance to the electricity. He had to plan something fast against that threat and after the jumpers.
