Selene dreaded hearing the birds chirping outside. After what happened the previous night, she wished to bury herself in her room and never come out. Never in her life had she felt that embarrassed and humiliated.
Meanwhile, at Rogers' mansion, Lilian received a call from her lover telling her that he was being imprisoned because of offending Mr. Jackson's wife. Lilian knew it was now or never. She had to remove her sister from Jake's life, which seemed easy from the conversation she overheard the two have. Jake didn't want her anymore.
"Lilian, why do you look scared?" Juliet asked as she approached her daughter.
"Mom, it's my boyfriend, he's in trouble because of that evil Selene!" Lilian whined pouting her lips like a child.
" I told you to let him go, he'll ruin our plans if he stays with you hunnie," Juliet said softly reminding her daughter of her sole reason of being with Jake.
"But mom, if it weren't for this stupid necklace, Jake wouldn't stay with me," Lilian complained. She needed him to love her, but he seemed too occupied with her step-sister.
"You just need to be close to him, and we'll take as much wealth as we can, who knows, we might even run away together and leave this stupid man I married to die," Juliet cursed, feeling angry. Rogers had always been a liability to her, he seemed to be doing everything wrong, and soon they were bound to be bankrupt even with the help the company was receiving.
"Mom, but you can't say that, he's still my father you know," Lilian said, defending her father.
"Ooh sweetheart, one day you'll know he's nothing but a junkie," Juliet said, burying the secret behind her words.
At the Lynn's mansion, Jake kept pacing downstairs, waiting to catch a glance at Selene. He had to inform her of the visitor before Mr. Foster Lynn, his father, arrived. Growing impatient, he headed up to her room. He had said harsh words to her, and he felt a bit bad for it, but he would never apologize for it.
"Open up Selene," he said, knocking at the door. When he didn't hear any reply, he knocked louder. "Selene, open this door right now!" He ordered, feeling panic settle in the pit of his stomach. What if he had pushed her too hard, and she had decided to do something stupid?
He raised his foot intending to knock the door down if it was even possible. But to his surprise, he heard the door open, sending him flying past her into the room, colliding into the wall ahead.
"Ha ha, very funny Selene," he said holding his hand in his forehead.
"What do you want Jackson?" Selene asked, not in the mood for any humor.
"Well, my father is coming over and you better behave well," Jake said, not knowing if the statement came out in the correct way.
"By behaving well, you mean act like a couple?" Selene asked, raising her brows.
"Yes, but also not to mention of Lilian," he added, surprised at how Selene didn't seem to want any argument.
"Okay if that's all, leave me be, please," Selene said, focusing back on her laptop, ignoring him.
She had decided to take things they came as long as at least her mother's company was going to be okay.
A black Mercedes-Benz parked at the front of the mansion, ushering out a man whose face was not new to the tabloids, Mr. Foster Lynn.
"Hello son, am sorry I couldn't make it to the wedding," he apologized, kissing Selene on the cheek. Selene felt as if she could count her lucky stars because at least someone seemed to like her.
"No problem, Mr. Lynn, you're here now," Selene said politely smiling at him. He looked intimidating on the outside, but Selene found him warm. She could tell from the greeting between the father and son they weren't really in good terms.
Jake had actually never seen his father warm up to any other person except his brother. He was surprised at how good Selene seemed to be getting along well with him as they chatted in the living room.
"You know I knew Sofia very well, she was just like you Selene," Mr. Lynn said in between their conversation.
Selene felt confused at his words as she furrowed her brows. " Did you know her?" She asked curiously.
"Of course, she was an excellent businesswoman, actually the only woman who challenged me in business, like no other," he explained, spacing out. Foster Lynn had never really met any woman as intelligent in business as Sofia Rogers. But her daughter seemed to take after her.
"So son, how's marriage life? I know I forced you into this but how are both of you taking it?" Mr. Lynn asked, looking between them.
"We are fine, Mr. Lynn," Selene stated, breaking the silence that had settled following that question.
"Yes, father, everything's fine," Jake said, echoing Selene.
"Good, I knew Selene was a good woman, now I see you're ready to take over the company as a responsible man," Mr. Lynn said, smiling at Jake.
He knew Jake would not appreciate his wife at the moment, but if she took after her mother, she would be the best for his son. He never really hated him, Jake was his firstborn and he was proud of him, although he liked pushing Jake to his limits.
"So, Selene, are you ready for the gala party tomorrow? I wouldn't want you to miss it, it'll be educative for you since you've studied business," Mr. Lynn asked explaining causing Selene to hide her surprise.
When was Jake planning to tell her of the party? Or did he have someone else to bring along?
"Son, tomorrow don't miss the gala at the mansion and bring your lovely woman with you, it's important," Mr. Foster reminded him.
Jake signaled for Selene to remain calm. " Father we'll be there, thanks for the reminder," Jake said assuring his father.
"I'll be on my way, make sure you come tomorrow at the office, we'll finalize everything," Jake's father said heading to the door. Selene felt her heart sink, knowing that that meant a step closer to her divorce.
Jake looked quite proud of himself, Selene didn't know if the reason behind was the news of him taking over the Lynn's' company, or it was because he could finally get rid of her.
Mr. Foster placed his hand on the door knob only to be thrown off balance the door opened abruptly.
"Babe, thank you for the dress for the gala party, I love it!" Lilian voice shrieked into the room as she threw herself against Jake. Causing Mr. Foster to gasp behind them.
Jake closed in eyes in anticipation as all his efforts in convincing his father about him being responsible came crumbling down to the ground.
