章 6: CHAPTER-6: SWEET ADVICE

EUN HANA

As I bid farewell to Kang Dae and Do Yun at the door, we ran into my mother. Her curious eyes were fixed on Kang Dae and Do Yun, while her angry gaze was directed at me. Okay, I know, from my mother's perspective, the current situation is far from explainable. But if I didn't explain a bit more to my mother, she would start yelling.

My mother took a few more steps towards us and scrutinized Kang Dae from head to toe. With a momentary panic, I blurted out, "Mom," and fell silent. With one hand on my waist and the other on my hair, I looked at Ha Rin and Kim Bora, hoping they would rescue me. The girls raised their hands in surrender and backed away into the living room. So, only I, my mother, Kang Dae, and Do Yun remained at the entrance. After glancing at me, Kang Dae bowed before my mother and said, "Hello, dear mother." Do Yun and I exchanged bewildered looks. My mother raised her eyebrows, slightly bowed, and said, "hello," her mouth slightly ajar.

"Dear mother, I am Kang Dae, the current director of XX Technology company. It is an honor to meet you. We apologize for inconveniencing you; I would like to express my regret for that. Today, we have come to observe the lifestyle of our new employee, Ms. Eun Hana, and to be guests in her home. It is a principle of our company. Usually, a few representatives from the Human Resources department handle this, but today, I volunteered to oversee the process personally."

"Hello, madam. Allow me to introduce myself as well. I am Do Yun, Kang Dae's personal assistant. We came here today after reviewing Ms. Eun Hana's CV. I apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you. Now, if you'll excuse us."

It seemed like Do Yun understood that I would be the most affected by this situation. Although I didn't particularly like what Kang Dae did, it was a clever move. I would thank him for that later.

Kang Dae and Handsome Do Yun bid farewell to my mother first, then to me, and left the apartment. We watched them until they disappeared from view. Yes, my mother was quite surprised, but I was equally shocked. I was about to move towards the inside when my mother's silent growl froze me in place at the door.

"All right, Ms. Eun Hana, are you going to explain, or should I call out to the strapping gentlemen who just left?"

After my mother's threatening question, I had no choice but to respond. I gestured with my hands for her to come inside, closed the door, and leaned my back against it. I tried to digest and contemplate what I had experienced in the last three hours. The most important thing I needed to think about was the contract we would sign when I went to the company tomorrow.

With slow and confident steps—actually, my steps were more like those of a timid kitten—I moved towards where my mother and the girls were sitting. My mother was in the living room, but the girls were watching Kang Dae and Do Yun leave from the balcony. Before explaining to my mother, I joined the girls on the balcony. We could have gone to the terrace for a clearer view, but an incident from my childhood had turned the balcony of my apartment into a place of fearful dreams. So, for now, the balcony of my apartment was my safe spot.

The driver got out of the car and opened the door for Kang Dae. Kang Dae got into the car without looking back. Although I couldn't see his face clearly, I could see him loosen his tie after leaving the house. Yes, I understood him too. After all, even at the age of twenty-eight, I couldn't win any battles against my mother. It was normal for her to be so tense. I sighed, relieved that they had left before making a bigger scene.

Do Yun had also moved to the front passenger seat. However, there was a noticeable difference between him and Kang Dae here. As Do Yun got into the car, he glanced back towards the apartment again, and our eyes met. When our eyes met, my heart raced as if I were about to jump from this balcony and commit suicide. Once again, Do Yun tilted his head down towards us, smiled, and got into the car. Yes, Do Yun was a true gentleman.

After Kang Dae's car left the front of the building, the girls and I heaved simultaneous sighs and turned back towards my mother. My mother was angry, yes, but after what Kang Dae and Do Yun said, I think she was slightly relieved too.

I sat right next to my mother and started explaining everything to her.

"Mom, as Kang Dae himself said, he is the current director of XX Technology company. He's also my high school friend. Actually, since the day you told me to apply to companies, I had only applied to Kang Dae's company. Yes, you are free to be angry with me at this point. But when I had the chance to work in Korea's oldest company, I didn't want to apply to other companies. I hope you're not mad at me for doing this secretly."

After telling my mother about everything that happened, I reached out and planted a big kiss on her cheeks to soften her attitude towards me. At first, my mother's face was angry, but then her raised eyebrows slowly lowered, as did her lip corners. I could tell something was wrong. My mother lowered her head towards the ground, and her breathing changed. When I lifted my mother's head back up, I saw that she was crying.

 I cupped my mother's face in my hands and asked her why she was crying. My mother looked at me and stroked my hair. As she did so, she said, "oh, silly girl, what am I going to do with you?" Then, she continued;

"I never wanted to pressure you, my beautiful girl. On the contrary, it would have made me happier to see you do what you love. But I know that after your grandfather's funeral, you couldn't continue writing your book. Don't worry; no one else knows about it. You know that I didn't go to university and got married at a very young age. Of course, I have no regrets because marrying a man like your father was a great blessing for me. Yes, I was lucky, but there is no guarantee that you will have the same luck. That's why I wanted you to gain economic independence before getting married. Yes, that's all there was to it. And I'm really happy now, Eun Hana. I'm happy because I know you can live without depending on anyone. Also, I have some good news for you. Actually, your father and I have been thinking about this for a while. But we were undecided about when to tell you. I think now is the perfect time."

My mother started emotionally and then continued with a smile. Although a few tears shed from my mother's eyes saddened me, I was more focused on what she would say last. With curious eyes, I continued to listen to my mother.

"As comfortable as this apartment is for us, we don't think you feel free here, my dear. That's why your father and I made a decision; we were going to allow you to leave this house whenever you felt you could take care of yourself. "

Before my mother could finish her sentence, I hugged her neck with joy. This time, my mother didn't allow me to have an emotional moment. She gently pushed me back by tapping my back. Only I wasn't the one rejoicing about this; the girls were also very happy.

To be continued...
