章 267: Complicated emotions

MAVERICK'S POV

I didn't know what to do. 

I have never felt helpless other than the night my parents died, as I am feeling right now, even after everything. 

Standing before the door of the hotel room Valencia was staying in, I sighed. 

She didn't want to return to the council chambers and face anyone. 

No. She didn't tell me this, but her gaze did. 

She, my girl, hasn't spoken a word since I found her, and her silence has been killing me since then. 

I would rather have her throw a tantrum, scream, cry, wail, yell at me, blame me for not being there sooner, for not saving her on time, or for letting so many things happen because I couldn't deal with Cordelia earlier, but this silence. 

I placed my forehead on the door, closing my eyes helplessly, trying to listen to any tiny voice to let me know she was moving inside the room and not sitting like the lifeless doll she had become.
