As my town car purred sedately away from the scool gates, I stole a sidelong glance at Huang Yanyan slouched in the passenger seat beside me. Her head was tipped back against the plush leather headrest, eyes half-lidded and jaw slack as she seemed to drift in and out of a pained doze.

Part of me rankled at having to personally play nursemaid and escort for this unruly harpy - surely such pedestrian tasks were beneath my lofty station. And yet, the mere thought of entrusting Yanyan's battered, wreaked form to the dubious mercies of hired help sparked an uncharacteristic flicker of protectiveness.
